  • Delhi Freedom bike unveiling & 11th anniversary G2G : Sep 21, 2014

    Delhi xBhpians,

You are invited at the unveiling of The Freedom Bike, an art installation created using the unique items bought during the OLX Great India Collectors' Ride.

Then we will also have the cake-cutting ceremony for the xBhp's 11th anniversary (this one has been pending for a long time now for a variety of reasons).

And in between, there will be a lot of biker chit chat a small group ride as well.

The tentative schedule is as follows:

    Sunday, September 21, 2014
7:00 a.m. : Meet at xBhp dhaba at Qutub Institutional Area (Click here to see the location of the dhaba)
    7:30 a.m. : Cake Cutting
8:00 a.m. : Group ride (destination to be declared, but should be either in South Delhi or Noida)
    9:00 a.m. : Freedom Bike unveiling
    10:30 a.m.: Disperse

Edit: Here's the report and the pictures from the ride/G2G

On the 21st of September, xBhpians of the Delhi chapter rode and got together to finally celebrate the 11th Anniversary of the largest motorcycling community of India.

The long pending 11th Anniversary celebrations had been waiting to happen since the team had already celebrated across the country with members during the Great India Collectors' Ride. Only the Delhi Chapter celebrations remained. And last Sunday we finally gathered at our favourite meeting spot of the city - the xBhp Dhaba to ride together and strengthen the bonds of the community.

At the very early 6 in the morning xBhpians reached the Dhaba from different corners of the city with eyes still half shut! As the bikers trickled in, they were greeted with a pleasant surprise in the form of xBhp tees for the ride. Most guys immediately went looking for a tree to change into their new attire. This was followed by the cutting of the cake ceremony with Chief Guest Deepa Malik ma'am being kind enough to grace us with her presence. We thank Puneet Mehta aka @roger for the lovely cake that was devoured in quick time!

After many chais and pieces of cake later, the riders lined up to ride from the Dhaba all the way to the Buddh International Circuit. In proper formation the group covered the 60-70 odd kms to the world class circuit. At the circuit we all admired the Freedom Motorcycle and the wonderful work that the sculptors from team Klove had done to build it. After everybody had their fill of photos of and with the Freedom Motorcycle.

Then it was a good hearty breakfast over the sound of motorcycles screaming past down the front straight of the track. There is no better way to enjoy good food than being out with friends enjoying big mean motorcycles being ridden to their very limit. As a few xBhpians got a chance to ride around the Buddh International Circuit.

At the end of the two half an hour bike sessions on the track, it was the turn for the cars to blaze the trail. Some xBhpians decided to stay on for the four wheeled wonders while others brought to end a wonderful morning of camaraderie and a renewal of the spirit of biking brotherhood in the xBhp Community.

            Re: Delhi Freedom bike unveiling & 11th anniversary G2G : Sep 21, 2014

            Okay guys, here's the plan

We will all gather at xBhp dhaba at Qutub Institutional Area by 6 a.m. where we will cut the cake.

By 7 a.m. sharp, we will start group riding towards the BIC at Greater Noida and reach there by 8 a.m.

It is an open track day at BIC and we have good news for people wanting to ride on the world class track. We are giving away 2 track riding passes (1 session per person). To be able to claim that, you must compulsorily wear full leather riding suit + riding boots + helmet + jackets. and sign the mandatory indemnity bond. The numbers of track passes are limited, so these will be distributed on the first come basis. Interested people can email me at sunilg at xbhp dot com. No phone calls/SMS please.

The bike unveiling will be done at the BIC only by 8:30. We will be providing the general entry pass + food coupon to xBhpians riding with us till the BIC from the dhaba. However, here again, the numbers are limited and the passes/coupons will be distributed on a first-come-first-serve basis.

Post the unveiling, the members who are not riding on the track can proceed to the paddock area from where they can enjoy watching the superbikes/supercars vrooming on the track and have the breakfast.

The guys riding on the track will first reach the accreditation area for signing up the indemnity bond, etc. from there they come to the bike unveiling area. From there, they will proceed straight towards the pit lanes for scrutiny + race briefing.

The event was super as usual & as expected.

Just a question came into my mind that what was the purpose behind having the freedom bike? Means is there anything special or it was just a task

Vinay: The Freedom bike was the purpose behind whatever we did in the last 3-4 months, including roaming around India in searing heat on some of the most exotic 2 motorcycles and cars money can buy in India and meeting thousands of people and bargaining and buying stuff from them. This bike is the symbol of whatever xBhp and OLX stand for, i.e. Freedom. As you know, xBhp is all about 2 wheelers which are the ultimate tool to attain freedom for the lesser mortals like us - be it freedom from our mundane life or freedom to create our own path.

OLX on the other hand stands for freedom from the existing route of trade, freedom to buy and sell stuff at your own terms, freedom from the congested roads, and freedom to buy and sell stuff at the price we are comfortable with. It is also a piece of some great artwork.

So the Freedom Bike is the outcome of the merger of these two great thoughts -xBhp and OLX - and not just a useless reality show task.
