I would suggest we should carry numbers of the major places with hospital/Police st. enroute for planned rides.
The highway helpline numbers are also handy.

Even when we are riding alone to some new place we shall try to note down the numbers provided on highways.

      Very true.
I had never done this before but during my last ride - saddle sore, i was feeling quite insecure n scared while riding late night on a highway where finding help is very tough task, even in broad day light let aside very late night. I remember i had noted down the highway assistance number thinking that's the only help if sumthing goes wrong.

        2) Correct. Anyways asking doubts on my part without any personal riding experience in groups just seems lame. So I definitely need some rides along with u guys for the experience 1st hand.
        3) Truly said bro..

        5) Since u love listing ur points in numbers, I thought u might be pleased to get reply similarly

And it's really good that you are asking and clearing your doubts becoz indirectly they are helping a lot of newbies as newer points are put forward with every question or doubt. My feeling is that all the points discussed above look very easy on papers but are gonna be very tough to follow strictly. I guess 1 or 2 rides after this discussion will give us a better idea and some more doubts.
        Keeping my fingers crossed
Thats very humble of you dude & you might not be senior to lots of members here but to a newbie like me, You definitely are.. & as far as I know, post counts dont make you a senior, riding does
Thank you for appreciating my doubts bro & even i feel it would be difficult to implement it but still with the determination towards safety that you guys possess, i guess its doable. I only fear the problems that you guys will face in our g2g would be mostly due to noobs like me.. But I hope things go well.
        Fingers crossed
By the way any updates when is the next mega G2G. I would be in mumbai by 25-26 this month so looking forward to attend it.

@Kashif: thx for the reminder bro, I almost forgot that we discussed it at Pune meet.

Good Show Spiderweb, didnt know that you have taken up this kind responsibility of initiating awareness
                  1. Highway phone numbers important.
                  2. Self medication (minor injuries and first aid knowledge is important)
                  3. You yourself know your riding abilities and never try to copy anyone while on highways
                  4. Respect trucks and truckers, they have been on the highways more that you.
                  5. Follow simple traffic rules and dont break any..just follow they have been put together after a lot of thought by the administrators
                  6. Keep phone numbers handy not only in your mobile phone, but also in a sheet of paper.

Wish you all a happy and a safe tour...

Once again keep up spidy, satyen and team of organisers.
Do this once in a while and help the upcoming riders to graduate to tourers.

@ Spidy- Awesome stuff. I cannot thank you enough for taking forward all that we had discussed at the Pune Safety GTG. I have another point to add:
I know that arranging a medical van with a doctor for every ride will prove to be difficult and expensive. So one of the members can volunteer to drive down for the planned ride instead and the other riders can pitch in for the car's fuel.

This will ensure that a backup vehicle is always available to carry the injured immediately to the hospital in case of a minor mishap. Also keeping the nos. of all the hospitals and police stations on the route and at the destination of the planned meet handy, will help to get in touch with the nearest hospital at the earliest in medical emergencies.

Satyen's clarifications made it clear to me that our Mumbai Xbhp seniors do have their own code of conduct & their own means to tackle things which cannot be laid down perfectly here but can be seen practicaly on the rides with seniors. But thanks for clearing the points yet again, it shows that U seniors do respect the doubts (no matter how stupid the doubts may be ) of Newbies like me & reply to them even after other seniors have already clarified the same.

P.S 1 : Thanks for acepting my Apology here (though it is not needed)
similarly, I hope You Seniors do accept my apologies on our g2g rides (when its needed, if needed at all)

P.S 2 : Heard a lot of that Mumbaiyya masti for too long, now I gotta experience it soon in person.
I wish I was in mumbai for the g2g next sunday Anyways have a safe/fun ride u guys.

Great thinking bro. . I wish we actually implement this idea, though it would be sad for the fellow member who would be driving while others would be enjoying the rides on their bikes.. but there can be change in person driving the car at regular intervals so that everyone present can enjoy what they love the most.. BIKING

Yeah, the list is definitely straight to the point & definitely doable for all the Xbhp'ians.. Have a great ride coming sunday, I hope majority of the safety points are thoroughly implemented.

                            @Spidey: Some additional information.

                            1. First Aid Courses: These are offered by an organization called RLSSI (Rashtriya Life Saving Society India). Check out their website. http://www.lifesavingindia.org/. I am sure that they have presence in Mumbai too and maybe the seniors could get in touch with them and organize the activities as needed. I would go to the extent of saying that every member needs to complete this course compulsorily as a part of xBhp enrollment.

                            2. Bike's Mechanical Condition: What could be done is that you can contact local mechanics at various sub urbs (Mumbai is large). Each month, members can visit this mechanic who would tag the vehicle as road worthy and safe. This data can also be collected and defaulters can be analyzed/reminded/reprimanded. This may seem overkill to most but if carefully and properly regulated, can be useful.

                            3. Hand Signals: Various hand signals and gestures can be universally used and adapted to convey important information while riding in a group. This information could help prevent incidents and also ensure proper communication in the absence of hi tech wireless communicators. I propose that we should have a universal xBhp hand signal code. This will ensure that bikers from diverse geographical areas understand each other when riding together (inter city/state meets etc).

                            4. Also proposed is the inspection of safety gear and proper fit for the same. We have observed that often riders wear unsafe (read sub standard) gear and sometimes the gear does not fit them properly; this increases the chances of injury. This needs to be inspected too.

@Mods: Can we make this thread a sticky one? And change the title to xBhp safety riding protocols?
Never argue with an idiot. He will drag you down to his level and then beat you with experience.

@niranjan: Thats a good thought. However to make it compulsory would be a little to early at this stage when we have to find solid ground ourselves.

We will also make a xBhp safe riding document by using discussions from this thread as well adding some of our own experiences in the final draft which then can probably be shared here for people to review.

At this point if I make it a sticky it would not serve the purpose since the content is very raw and scattered and will need polishing and some iterations before we can sayh its ready to go!

Lets keep the good work going on here!
