                  • Vivek, Balaji I myself have a UG1 Pulsar 180 running on an avenger 180 coil and rr! I am using Osram Silverstar h4 bulb with it, and there s a marked improvement in lighting! So I really understand what your mech is telling you!
But it is true that even with a 60/55w bulb, as the bike headlight is not on dc, at low revs the illumination isnt all that great. Otherwise, it s one of the best changes I ve made to my bike. Coil rs500(approx), rr(rs380), bulb(rs180), total a lil more than 1k including labor.

Great! So it does work. Maybe I should convert the whole thing to DC and use the bigger coil to charge the battery. I think Shiju did mention that as an option.

Another thing. I've fitted bigger horns on my bike, and the electrician mentioned that putting on higher wattage horns might damage the switch, and I should use a relay. I don't use use the horn continuously for long periods, so I didn't do that at the time. But in the case of headlights, this might apply. I used a TVS headlight relay when I switched to 100/90s on my M800. So, I think it would be better to install a relay on the bulb circuit, especially if it's running on DC.

This sig made the Kessel Run in less than twelve parsecs. And if you don't know what that means, you're not old enough to. :D

                        • I am using the 60/55w without a headlamp relay. No issues yet! But it would be good if you are going to mod your electricals and fit a high wattage bulb/horn, maybe something from bosch.

I never had any issues when I upgraded my M800's headlights to 100/90s either. I had the relay installed because it was safer. All switches have an ampere rating. A higher wattage bulb could exceed this rating, which would lead to switch failure when you least expect it. That's why I said that it would be better to use a relay. Especially if you're going to be driving a lot at night.

The question is, will the stock switch handle the additional current? Does the Avenger use the same switches as the Pulsar? If so, then it won't be an issue.
