  • Apache RTR 180 Vs Yamaha FZS Vs Pulsar 220

    Hi guys.....

I m newbie in this community as well as driving..... so i appreciate all the advice i can get

    i m 5'9ft and my weight is around 71kg and i m 23years old.......

i am going to take a bike for city use(Mumbai) but i m a bit confuse in Apache RTR 180 or YAMAHA FZS or PULSAR 220

but i personally like Apache RTR for its good look and powerfull engine, but other bike are also good enough thats why i m still confuse for which one i should go for

What i need from my bike:-
    1. Look matter
    2. Enough power to rev past traffic
    3. Easy to ride
    4. Average or mileage doesnt matter for me b'coz i m going to use it only on weekends(apart from my tight schedule)
    5. Easy maintainance and good service
    6. I going to use it atleast for 3-4years

but there are few problems with bikes
    i.e. Apache - VIbration prob
Yamaha - No powerful engine & Pickup (Compare to apache)
    Pulsar 220 - Maintainance Prob

Really i like Apache RTR from bottom of my heart but still confuse.....plz help me out of this

    Thanx a lot in advance

    Regards
    Satish

Advice is a form of nostalgia.
Dispensing it is a way of fishing the past from the disposal, wiping it off, painting over the ugly parts and recycling it for more than it's worth.

Bike for weekends and tours.. nothing can match P220 in less than 85K budget.

Hi Satish, All the machines above are quite capable, and have a wonderful character of their own. You have also listed the cons of each and every bike quite correctly.

        1. FZ/FZ-s/Fazer, yes, it is a good bike with good handling, Fun to Ride in City, nimble. However, it does feel lazy above 100, and on highways it keeps you wanting for more power.
        2. RTR 180, has good power, pickup, handling, however, as you rightly mentioned has Vibration problem. Now that's not an issue exactly, you can call it as a trait of the bike.
        3. P220, nice and torquey, good top end, stability at high speeds (important requirement on the highways), ability to maintain good cruising speeds (110-130) for hours without breaking sweat. However, as you rightly mentioned, it does require little more attention from owners. However, it is not something that should be a deal breaker, as many owners including me are riding 220 for quite sometime, and it has been a wonderful experience.

Both RTR and P220 are almost priced similarly with around 4-5 k difference.

It all boils down to your choice. If your heart is on RTR go for it, and you wont be wrong with your decision. When it comes to matters of heart I believe you should listen to your heart.

Of the three you have listed, The P220 comes with the more powerful engine and better on road stability for touring. Will do great speeds(110-130kph) without problems. It is pretty smooth too. Go for it only if you can take good care of it, or it will empty your pockets for sure.

The RTR on the other hand, needs little maintenance apart from regular servicing and cleaning. The RTR comes with very progressive brakes too. Can do 90-110kph all day long with little strain. As long as you have the budget for the 220, I say go for the ABS version of the RTR.

When you've got the above two bikes listed, and your heart is in the RTR, I see no point in the FZ. Its in a different class altogether!!
Don't matter what it is: Touring; Racing; Commuting. All I know is, I belong on the saddle.

          Rides : Honda CB Twister(Feb 2011 - Present) | TVS Apache RTR 180 ABS(Sept 2012 - May 2016) | Honda CBR250R C-ABS Repsol(March 2017 - Present)

Satish when you can think of P220 then why not NS200??

Enough power and extreme power are two different things. For a city traffic any 150cc bike is enough.

Now RTR 180 has little vibs as compare to previous RTR. But i would recommend ABS only else Straight no to RTR becuase you get more better option than RTR now.

FZ is excellent for City, comfortable and killer looks, Now you decide whether you need a top speed bike or fun to ride in city. FZ is real fun in city. ZicZaggging...

Instead of P220 you should seriously think on NS200. NS200 has got all apart from FI and Fairing.
Easy to maintenance as it's Bajaj.

So If ABS then RTR else NS200 for speed, fun in city then FZ any day

              P220 is not priced < 85k. It's approx 92k+

NS200 and P220 has only some 3-5k difference.
Antz Bin had posted a price list of Mumbai sometime ago.

I see that your usage is exclusively in the city. No use for a P220 in such a scenario. I wouldn't consider it much of a maintenance hassle as much as a PITA when riding in congested city conditions. Its more of a highway animal so cross that one out of the list straight away.

My suggestion would be to go for something lighter to handle like an FZ/RTR. If you have the budget, pick the 200NS. All these bikes are more comfortable in the city than something like a P220. What sort of bike would suit you ideally depends upon the traffic you will face in your daily commute. For faster speeds, heavier bikes score better and conversely, the lightest ones excel in stop go traffic.

Test ride every bike in your budget range without prejudices and with an open mind and maybe you might end up with something altogether different from what you set out for in the beginning.

@chinmayakar..... you are absolutely right, i should go with RTR, I don't know whether it will right or wrong decision in the future but at least my heart will be satisfied because i m planning from last 3 years for the RTR and the new look of RTR even makes me more crazy to have that beast.

@madhav766, @somen1984, @antz.bin..... i dont like 200NS, Dont know reason but i really don't like that bike, and its seat is very awkward and very uncomfortable, very difficult sitting posture for family members. If it comes to P220 then it has good look but only it has is maintenance in my friend circle i have seen after 2-3 services it becomes dabba, that's the only problem it has.

I think i should think too much and should go for Apache RTR 180 after all its my dream bike from last 3 years And i m going for the latest version RTR 180 with ABS, It is coming for 97k in mumbai, my friend has offers me the price after excluding discount is 94k.

Plz tell me Is my choice correct (I mean RTR 180 ABS for 94k)????????????????

Let me tell you one incident, Today I had a fall from my bike at just 10-20kmph, can you image ?? Road was full of traffic. Suddenly a swift braked while overtaking, i was behind him, i Braked as well, but as there was sands on road My front wheel locked and i skid same place with no major hurt or damage to bike as bike was at mere 10-20kmph, If it would have been an ABS then surely it won't had effect me.

ABS is awesome and ABS kicks in right from 10kmph or right from start i guess!! Any given day ABS is kool!!

be careful for such things..... I booked my Apache RTR 180 ABS at 94k today, i was getting it Non-ABS at 84k but i decided to put 10k more for my safety because i m totally newbie in driving, i have to be careful towards my life and others too.

                      I was getting Pulsar 220 - 91k & 220NS - 96k excluding discount but still i proffered Apache RTR for 94k......

Finally going to get my Dream Bike on coming Tuesday (16th Oct)...............Desperate

Thanks a lot all of you

congratulations on your new bike. you will not be disappointed for sure cause i am riding RTR 160 since 3 and half years and still got no maintenance so regarding quality i can assure you. power and pick up are also good in 160 so in 180 definitely will be more. So enjoy new ride.
