There should be some 'induction period' for newbies in which they'll need to go through this section first before actively posting anyting on the forum...

And for the single RVM, is it like people having only one i.e. right side RVM always ride from extereme left lane (so that they won't need to look what is comming from behind on the left)...? I doubt...

Well. Here is what I do on road...
      • Keep on left side as much as possible. Change to right lane only when overtaking slow moving vehicles.
      • Use indicators everytime while changing lane. Let it be an almost empty road at 5 on clock early morning.
      • Honk whenever necessary with flashing pass-lights. No unnecessary honking.

if adjusted properly one can have vision of both lane.
and the question remains why do i race?
every finishing line is the begining of a new race.

Noob Alert : Keeping headlight on in the day

              Here is noob query.

Here I have noticed that members insist on keeping the headlight on even in the day. I don't understand why? Is it for making yourself more visible?noticeable?

There are 2-3 factors for this -
                  1. It helps the lead to count the group/check whether all the bikes are together.
                  2. It serves as attention grabber for incoming vehicles and they know that a group is riding.
                  3. Its helps the vehicle in front to spot us in RVM and give us side.

                  Ride safe

                    Awesome...

A very well put article bro! Kudos.

I too feel blinded without RVMs. I remember once on my way to office, my ride's left RVM came loose. But, there was no mechanic on the ECR. I'd to take the left RVM off and I was like handicapped.
I hadn't realize so far that I was so used to them.

I'd like to put my points (most/all have been mentioned already):-
[Not necessarily in the same order]

                    1. Riding gear. - Helmet, jacket, gloves, knee guard, shoes. (All the time)
[P.S - Open face helmets, converse/canvas shoes don't qualify here; IMO]

                    2. RVMs - both must be functional; i.e, set to see the people behind, not our faces.

                    3. Anticipate the rider's/driver's movements ahead of you.

                    4. Never take blind turns. (even the free left ones)

                    5. No unnecessary honking.

                    6. Don't jump the lights, remember - reaching your destination is more important instead of reaching 5 mins early. Sometimes, those 5 mins can be lethal!

                    7. Use low beam in traffic. Make a habit of asking for overtaking a bigger vehicle. Use the flasher/pass light.

                    8. Stick to the left lane. When required, move to the right lane to overtake and then move back to the original lane once done.

                    9. No signal drags for grown up riders. Well, such people death mongers and posers. Stay away from them.

                    10. Respect the jaywalker.

                    11. Lastly, remember that there are people waiting for you back home!
                    Got a $5 head? Get a $5 helmet.
Because everyone who passes, isn't a martyr!

sticking to these 2 rules are not always possible.imo.
suppose i am riding on an auspicious day to my friend's house for puja,i am wearing indian traditional dress,a knee guard and jacket will look odd.
secondly considering how hapazard our city traffic is it is not always possible to stick to left lane, but the point holds true for highways.

                        You're right bro.
Certain occasions, you may want to skip the riding gear. But, if your friend lives some 5-10 kms away from your place, you should use these measures.
Anyways, if I ride my bike in traditional wear (kurta/sherwani etc), I'd be looking odd already.

                        But, practicality dictates. Point taken.

Ya, left lane is not always possible bcoz commuters don't know/bother about lane discipline. Hence, whenever we can, we must follow them.

                        Cheers!

I would like to explain on the point:
"Overtake the vehicle at a comfortable better speed. Oh yes! As much as possible" The underlined part should not be the habit/tendency of a biker/driver!
One should do progressive overtaking and not at a very high speed with respect to the vehicle you're overtaking.
For example, if a vehicle is moving at 40 kph and you're at 130 kph on the right lane, even if you see a clear way ahead to overtake, atleast release the throttle and let the driver know that you're overtaking and NOT just flashing past the vehicle.

                            nice article--

a few things from my side.
                            • anticipation is the key. learn to anticipate obstacles and slow down, wherever you anticipate that something may pop up unexpectedly, like divider gaps etc.
                            • when taking a turn look at the apex of the turn. this way you will see an oncoming vehicle or any obstacle a little bit early.
                            • look through obstacle. for example, if you are riding behind a four wheeler like car/jeep/sumo etc... look through the vehicle i.e. its glass. you will be amazed that you can spot obstacles much early and will know beforehand, when the driver of the vehicle ahead of you will brake.
                            • DRL's do make you more visible in daytime.
