Met with an accident last year...
Still having those bad memories on Life saver YZF and my pocket.
Planned a 1 day trip Delhi-Jaipur-Delhi alone just to test the peak performance of my YZF. Departure was ok/smooth but while arrival at a speed of 125 nots ( MY BAD\Bewakoofi ) on a No man's Land (empty road ) all sudden a Maruti Omni came in the middle of road leaving me with only 1 option i.e to pray to God for my life, could merely reduced my machine to no. 113 ,banged.......... leaving behind a machine with 2 tyres, a tank, a seat &
Rest the story is same .
Fortunately was wearing Knee / elbow guards, Gloves, a backpack and a ISI mark helmet which banged with that Yamdoot ( Omni ) with my Skull inside resulting in a shattered Windshield.
Nothing much happened to me coz my last moment prayer was accepted.

    Moral Of the Story

Always wear all the safety gears if going for a Long trips don't forget for a ISI Helmet
Always be in limits ( be it you or your machine ).
Always Pray to God before leaving your place.
    and rest is your destiny
    God bless all............

I had a crash a couple of months ago (2nd april 03.45 am to be precise).

I was on a trip to bhilai from pune to meet a couple of college buddies. left from pune at 2.00 am and sonn, i was riding steadily at 55-60 kmph since the roads were properly lit. but as i entered the highway to aurangabad, 7 kms ahead of shikrapur, the lights had almost vanished and i slowed down to 50 kmph. I remember this because it was a chilly night and I was keeping note of speeds. soon, i noticed the road divider marker ahead and checked the rear view mirror any signs of incoming vehical (at 3.30 am in the middle of night). I saw a faint light of a set of headlights and i could easily guess that the driver was far behind so i gave the indicator a push and moved into the right lane. after 30 seconds of riding in fast lane, I noticed that the guy was coming way too fast and was dangerously close. but it was too late. he hit the bike, and all I remember was me sliding on the road for a good 20 meters and a final bang against the divider.
as usual, i was having all the gear on so with lots of scratches on it,i was saved the pain of bruised body parts. however, knee guard was in three pieces, helmet visor smashed, elbow guards cracked. but i was in senses.

luckily, It was middle of night so, there was no traffic. on hearing the crash, a couple of passers by pulled my bike of the road, i dragged myself to the side and thanked them. they even asked if i need a tempo to get the bike home but i refused ( till thet time, i had seen only the right hand side of the bike and I was under the impression that the bike was fine. however, after eveyone had left and i was trying to pull up the bike, i noticed the following:-

      1) i wasnt able to stand up, left leg was swolen.
      2) left side of the bike was totalled, handle bar bent and the cell phone was missing.

somehow, I managed to find the phone but damn no coverage. finally, I got on the bike and somehow rode home. midway, I stopped, called up a friend, and got the bike home.

later i was dignosed with a hairline fracture, and a smashed confidence. it took 1 month to get on the bike again.

      lesson learnt,
      1) safety gear is a must for riding.
      2) night riding is risky and get as much of reflective clothing as you can.( a safety reflective jacket is just 50 bucks)
      3) always have an eye on whos behind you.
      4) never cling on to the bike if you are going to crash. its either you or yor bike who will survive.
      5) never hesitate to ask for help. and check the situation completely before you refuse any further help

remember a bike can be repaired even if its totalled but its not the same with you

A very good point put up by Omi and others..

I just wanna add to it..

Whenever you meet an accident, just calm down and try to move on the side of the road.. As it is too riskiy that a another vehicle @ momentum cud come and rash on you or lose control to safe you.. So avaoid more life risk or others damage.. Try to move out of the accident occured place.

        To all riders:

one more point to add that is sixth sense, whenever i have met an accident there was always a clear sign before i start the ride that something is going to happen.I overlooked it and met the accident.
I would like to ask from the fellow members if they have been given any such signal from the God.Just try to remember.

Had an accident this afternoon, I had slowed down as the area I was entering is usually a touch crowded and most cars (and bikes) will turn in from a side road without looking, I thought I was prepared for the unexpected!

Then one fellow steps out into the road on my left, the idiot was looking to his right and grinning to himself, I squeezed my brake lever to stop, the front wheel locked as there was some loose gravel on the road. I swerved to avoid the impending impact and the bike fell, I didn't quite jump off fully when we had hit the ground. I stood up and began abusing the idiot who was walking the other way now and still laughing to himself, it seemed that he was a touch retarded.

I was wearing an armored jacket, gloves, helmet, knee guards and regular shoes. People were surprised to see me get up and back on my bike within seconds.

My damage, a little pain in the wrist (those 700 buck gloves are shite, need to get a pair of full gauntlet leathers) Slight bruising to my right hip (need to get some protection there) and a graze on my right ankle (riding boots are also on my shopping list)

Damage to the bike, I paid Rs 2300 for some fairings and other parts, around Rs1200 of that was for damage from when my bike fell over whilst parked last week.

Bottom line, my gear gave me reasonable protection from an idiot, our streets are full of idiots, both educated and illiterate it seems to make little difference, a very sad state of affairs, the use of eye balls seems to be secondary in India for the majority of road users (including pedestrians) human life seems to have little value in our selfish world, but still we have to live or die with it as this will only change for the worse.

I will continue undeterred and will be wearing full gear most of the time.

I forgot to add, my FFE has got badly dented, will also need to get a denting guy to get it back in shape and fabricate a cover for it.

Beware of Bread, don't say I didn't warn you!
More than 98 percent of convicted criminals are bread eaters !
Statistics show that more than 75 % of violent crimes are committed within 24 hours of eating bread !
Bread is known to be extremely addictive. Subjects deprived of bread and given only water, actually begged for bread after just two days !

                crash on apache rtr fi

my frend had a bad crash on 11-11-2011 when he was trying to learn on cornering on hills near pathankot, punjab. he got a hairline fracture in hand and got minor bruises all over the body, he git saved just because of 2 things
                1. helmet
2.crashed in a divider which had soil in it.

The crash was at a whooping 100+kmph.

Here is a video of the same. Video was taken by me on his request as he wanted a good DP for FB. i had warned him not to try this hard but he ignored and said if u can i also can do this.

This shows that cornering on the hills is not as easy as it seems and should be practiced in a control environment with all the safety gears on.

What made him stand the bike up so early into the corner?

he said he left the throttle while entering the corner and the centrifugal force made the bike stand. If he could pull the throttle even a bit then he could have saved himself...right..??

Twist of the wrist (book) and Twist of the wrist 2 (video) explains throttle control very well. Chopping off the throttle will make the bike react, not to how you would expect, be smooth and practice, start slowly and as you understand the physics more you can increase your speed, it needs to be second nature. It seems (just my opinion) judging by his lack of lean angle (and speed he was riding), that he was fighting against the bikes natural tendency to counter steer, which caused him to run wide and in panic he chopped the gas, this caused the bike to stand and run in a straight line and the rest is history.

very true, it took me more than 2 months to learn some tits bits of it and now i can get through curves at 90+ easily and have been scrapping my bike's foot pegs every now and then.

Had a crash on thursday 12 jan. I was trying to overtake a bus, the bus slightly moved towards the left so I inturn had to swerve left a bit and the platform was protuding outside on my path, noticed that only before few feet. Had to brake hard and there was loose soil on the road, the wheels got locked and I along with bike fell on the right. The bus zoom passed me just few inches away. Suffered from few scratches on palm, hands and as I was wearing the helmet, the helmet took the impact and few scratches on the visor.

ahh damn!! he fell because he panicked!
From what i see, he is not comfortable with that speed at that turn..
It must have been his first time with such speed at that turn
the speed and entry was ok.. but the problem starts when he stops looking at the inside of the curve and starts to look at the median!! where you look matters a lot.
he could have saved the trouble even at the point where he started to apply brakes, if instead of applying brakes, had he looked where he wanted to go and directed his upper body in that direction..

Yes You are right but while in panic one cannot implement even the things which they know very well. I would say these all stunts are meant to be carried out only on the track.
