Re: How a crash feels (and how to deal with it)

I had a crash once... from a standstill! It was a red signal me and my friend where sitting on my bike waitingfr it to turn green behind a car.. the signal turned green and I was goingto shift gear but before that I started moving..... and crashed into the divider ! An auto had pushed us out of the way and rushed ahead...
Checked my friend he was fine except a scratch on his foot and I had a brused and road rashed knee.. no head injuries what so ever all I remember was rolling as I fell.,,
I remember thanking god and saving our lives,
Bike was a pulsar 150 classic... broken leg guard, bent handlebars, broken speedometer and cracked mudguard. Ouch!
When we were getting up a lot of people helped us up and moved the bike... a policeman just stood there noting down my number, he then walks up to me and says show me your papers... I am like... dude I jst had a crash gimi a minute to breathe... he looks at my papers gives me a sad signal that ok.. and says he has the no. Of the auto that hit me. I said good give me the number I shall lodge a complain... he then says ' need sum mithai ka money to giv me the no, so that I can proceed and says acche mithae ke paise dijiye aisa case banaunga ki nikal nahi paega auto wala... I look at him disgusted and simply walk away with my friend and my bike....

Re: How a crash feels (and how to deal with it)

A month back when I was coming to office there was an accident of a poor guy happened just after the hitec flyover. That guy's cap flew from his head and he stopped at the wrong side and got hit by a Skoda from behind. Luckily he did not get direct impact from the car but landed badly on his head after flying over the car.

I stopped and crossed the road to help him and he was completely blacked out. I called the ambulance immediately and called his son from his mobile. He was bleeding badly from head and I needed to use my shirt to stop the bleeding. Luckily ambulance arrived in less than 20 mins and his son also with his wife. Could not note the vehicle number as that guy ran away and road divider was blocking my view till I crossed the road.

      My checklist for crashes:
      1. Keep a card with all the important information about you; specially emergency contact
      2. The first thing after crash is to calm down and supress the anxiety. You know you and probably your bike are in trouble but everything can get fixed
      3. Try avoiding the rage(at my place injuries happen because of rage after accident)
      4. Always take pictures of the spot and the situation, specially the number plates of involved vehicles(very useful if it goes legal)
      5. Turn the bike off immediatly becuase if the the engine keeps running and carb/fuel pipe gets the damage the fuel keeps spilling(we know the danger of that), experienced it with a bull
      6. We all love ghat roads and the cornering but please always keep the speed in check; as the greater the speed more the braking and apparently bigger the circle of turn, I saw my good riding mate doing it and crashing head on with a car on a blind turn; not to mention the HONKING.
      7. Always carry first aid and pain killers if travelling to remote places
      8. If riding through multiple locations; take the emergency contact number of the places(for example in Hyderabad you cab dial 108 and get an ambulance
      9. Last but not least; don't lose the confidence and come on the road again. Belive me it helps forgetting the incident that happened and regain the confidence.
Be True to your inner self

I pulled up near (saw the middle-aged guy driving) and honked twice, upon which he slammed on his brakes. The only thing I do remember is the car's big backside coming onto my face in a rush of golden colour. Went down, sprawling on to the soil-clad divider side. Everything was just a blur of images. I saw the good driver-uncle racing off NFS style down the road.
        What happened?
I didn't make sure I had the space to recover from a failed overtaking attempt.
This nullified all my research, practice and application of Staged Braking, weight shifting.. etc, etc., eccetera.

My right big toe had a good part of it's nail torn off, along with tissue. Blood aplenty on the footwear.
Both arms earned a good amount of skin-reduction.
The ISI helmet proved good enough to leave consciousness in, straggled up onto the divider.

The FZ16 miraculously only suffered a bent handle and a scratched muffler.

I learned to make sure I had SPACE- to do just about anything- on all my future rides.
And the importance of proper kit. Parents sometimes express the view that proper kit will prompt us to be careless. My parents underwent a change!

Always make sure you've got SPACE to manoeuvre. A car driver can stand on his brakes, you can't!
Specially car drivers who use mobiles while driving, thinking that they have the right to do so.. Same happened to me when a lady driver talking on the phone waved on to my lane and backside of the car hiting my forks and me falling down and my head hitting the footpath thanks to helmet not a scratch to my head. But I had to see my bike go down. That was the most painful part for any of us. After I got up I just felt like smashing her whole car and shouting like hulk. Disgusting people.
