Wow. That is shocking to say the least. Shoot off an email to the company in India. Bring it to their notice.

Whats happening to me Monk?? Nowadays whenever i cycle(I do it almost everyday) i make sure that there is a good climb. You know the plains are something very boring. The real beauty of cycling is climbs.
I failed to update here, Last week i had a fall from the cycle on a steep descend in heavy rain. The fault was mine as i was at a high speed(Maybe at 35 or 40 KMPH). Like i said before this place has a lot of climbs and desends. This particular descend was short but the incline was really steep. It was raining heavily, suddenly i saw an autorickshaw, got preplexed, pulled the brake hard on the steep, rear wheel locked. The tyre skidded and within no time i and the cycle reached the base of the steep. We skidded along the road for a good distance before coming to a halt. My pump and water bottle got dislodged from their respective carriers and fell to the nearby bush along the road.
      Damages incurred from the fall
      Rider
Abrasion wounds on both elbows, knees and on toe. A good patch of skin abraded off from both elbows. The problems with abrasion wounds are they hurt the most.

Considering the steepness and the speed of the fall, nothing major happened for both of us and both are back on the road again.

Good to know that the both of you are back on the road. That's important

Brake more with the front less with the rear. Like you would in your motorcycle. Except if you are used to drum brakes where you use both brakes equally.

Crashing is part and parcel of cycling. I crashed when I was trying to overtake a bullet. Had never been overtaken by a Bullet before Infact I crashed twice in a span of 5 minutes :P

Re: Scott Aspect 670, My New GREEN Ride!

It's okay, everybody takes a fall sometimes, the main reason for a lot of people falling off bicycle is, just like a on bike, you should be able to place both of your feet on the ground while sitting on the bicycle or you run the risk of falling. This is very important if you are riding in congested roads with muddy sides and dumb pedestrians. My bicycle's front tire is completely bald and I have rode over 10K kms on bald state. Still even in muddy roads I don't fall as I can balance the bicycle bu placing my foot on the road. The tire is okay till now, I get punctures more often now but it's not a problem as I repair punctures myself and a tube of tube adhesive costs just 10 rupees and lasts hundreds of repairs.

About getting rust in the freewheel/cassette and hubs of your bicycle, just like bike's swingarm and wheel bearings, the bicycle bearings needs cleaning and regreasing too. I regrease my bicycle parts once in a month and replace the balls, races every year or whenever it breaks. Mind you, I ride my bicycle a lot, about 40KM a day minimum, and it often extends upto 100KM a day as it is my only means of commuting. Bus fares have gotten to the point that I can not afford to go through buses regularly. Also any bicycle would have rusting problem in mud, and thanks to our government, mud and potholes are road ornament here Only the old style Hero Royal bicycles with completely enclosed chain cover needs less chain maintenance. Mine had a full chain cover but I removed it after somebody hit it with a dao in Mariani, that cover costs 200 rupees alone, so I did not replace it.

What size of BB your bicycle uses for the front wheel hub. Mine and all other Raleigh clones uses 3/16 for front, 1/4 for rear hub and bottom bracket, 1/8 for freewheel and 5/32 for pedals.
          I am back!

I owe you one Monk, you made me a better man, maybe I would have stopped cycling if I had bought a full suspension in the first place.
200 kms on MTB is a little tough, I think.
Last Sunday done a 165 kms ride on the MTB. Got all most exhausted after the ride.
The ride was along good tarmac and I had to haul the MTB all the way. The road suited best for a road bike.
So I am a bit worried about finishing the 200 kms brevet, though many have completed successfully on MTB. Any way I will try my best.

I didn't make you a better man I just helped you choose the right bike. The rest is your relentless dedication to improve and be a better cyclist.

If you have done 165 km alone, then doing 200 with others will be cool. Just don't overtax yourself by trying to push too hard at the start.

                  All the best

Did my first BRM 200 on my MTB. Total time taken 12 hours and 15 minutes.
Had a puncture on the way, patched the puncture and I had to ride for some 10 kms on under inflated tyres. Its really difficult to pump air from a small frame pump. At last filled air from a floor pump on the way.
Will do a detailed write up soon.
I never thought I could finish this 200 kms. Thanks Monk for all the support.

                        Congrats

I never have a problem with a frame pump. For a MTB 40 psi comes easy. It is the road bikes which are difficult (near impossible) to fill. You need to start building those biceps to repair punctures bro

I have never done 200 km and i do not know the terrain on which you rode. But the time seems impressive!

Nice, what would be the good timing for 200km on a Hero Rally bicycle? 42T crank and 18T rear, no suspension, on tarmac, with few dips and some raised bridges?
