  • MTB under 40K

I have set a budget of 35k for my bike and the only options seem like Montra Rock 4.1 , Btwin Rock Rider 540 and Rockrider ST 520.

Now it should be noted that I do not have any Decathlon store near me and I will be purchasing the bike online.

    I have a few questions.

In future will I be able to purchase spare parts online to maintain the bike myself or take to any other independent bike shop for repairs ?

Can normal cycle shops repair or service hydraulic brakes easily ?

Are there any other better brands with same or better features compared to the 3 bikes mentioned here ?

      Hi John,

After bit of research and few trials at Decathlon Chennai store, I have purchased Rock Rider ST 520 in L size during May 2020. I'm 6 feet tall and 80 KGs. So far it is very good and very comfortable for me.

I found that it is easy to maintain as well. So far I have done the following basic maintenance myself using just the basic cycle tool available in Decathlon stores.

Dismantled the cycle completely for transportation in car trunk, Stem adjustment, Front and back gears adjustments for smooth gear shifts, Chain cleaning and lubing, break and gear lever adjustments according to my posture, Changed the seat, Fixed mirrors, mud guards, etc. Ofcourse i have referred youtube DIY videos. There are plenty of very good tutorials available.

Almost all the spare parts for this cycle is available in Decathlon online site. In fact I have ordered all the accessories online and fitted it by myself. Local small cycle shops are not recommended for any repair work. But multi-brand cycle stores can take care of it.

I use this cycle regularly for 10 - 15 KMs and occasionally 30-40 KMs. Very good cycle for road, mild off-road and trails.

The cycle is light weight too. Hope this helps!
