Did strangers ever help you? Narrate here..

I had just crossed Sion fly-over. Bike stopped suddenly no reason whatsoever in the rightmost lane, wheel won't budge. Somehow with all the strength i had, i managed to pull the bike to the corner.

Then came 2 guys, also on a Pulsar 220, who stopped looking at me struggle. One of them came and helped me push the bike to an even safer position. They called up a mechanic who was on his way back home. He doesn't even know me and he actually came all the way back through the opposite side of Priyadarshini took a U-turn and in the darkness tried to repair, though the problem was complicated to repair in the darkness. Then in the typical foot-on-the-exhaust style helped me take the bike up to Chembur to my relative's place. He refused to take money for all the help he had done though eventually i coaxed him to take Rs.100 (he said not more than Rs.50).

Good people still exist and do help you in times of need.

You may call it co-incidence but I believe strongly this is the way God helps you when you need Him the most.

I can just imagine me sitting there even now. Who actually would stop at a place like Evarard Nagar to help someone? People just want to get out of there.

And in all this a special thanks to my friend, Ankit Shah, who was riding pillion and was there to give company all along.

I recall that strangers did help me, when I crashed due to some #$%^&* not keeping his headlights on in pitch darkness.

The problem is its very difficult to beileve anyone these days... he may have shown you a revolver easily and asked for all your belongings.. I know good people exist but due to some bad ones it has become difficult to recognise whoz good n whoz bad..

Once I was coming from office at 3 a.m. and my Kinetic Blaze gave up in the middle of the road. A guy from my company stopped and helped me put the bike at a safe place and dropped me at my home. It was the kindest gesture and since then I started helping people in similar situations. Helped two people on similar occasions who ran out of petrol at night. Gave petrol from my bike. I still can remember how happy they were to get help when they really needed.

Long post : (Taken from my last year Spiti Trip)
First of all in these trips never trust any locals when it comes to ATM and money things. We were informed that there is an ATM at Kaza, and we were happy because in total we three had 900INR in our pockets, which was not enough not even for Hotel Rent, leave aside food.
As soon as we got the hotel , the hotel owner , a nice natured lady gave us the room keys. We unpacked and went into the room. I informed Bishal that I have fever and I wont be able to join them for ATM, I would withdraw cash at night and I went for a deep sleep.
After 1 hour they returned and gave me a shocking news that some bugger has poured Beer in the ATM and it wont work and it will be working when someone would come from Shimla to repair it.
To be honest at time we all were cursing that we should have withdrawn money and kept with ourselves.
At that time the hotel owner gave us an idea that we should deposit some money in her account and in the morning she can go to the back and get it for us. Indeed a brilliant idea and helped us too.
We called our respective homes (Note : Since Narkanda we didn't have a single network in our cell phones).
Next morning the money was deposited in her account and we got the money. To be honest she really helped us, next time we go there, we are going to stay in the same hotel.

Once I was traveling to drop my gf during rainy season ....it was pitch dark and raining heavily. ..I was passing near charoti. ..suddenly the bike went kaput. .I was in the middle of jungle. ..checked and found that there is no petrol. ..was shivering with cold....suddenly a mahindra pick up came and stopped near me ...I told him that there is no petrol in bike ....the guy in the pick up gave me a bottle full of petrol and just went away....I was shocked and afraid of that incident

                Can never ever forget!!

Few months ago, I was on the bus to pickup my CBR from ASC. It so happened I didn't have a change for Rs 1 to buy the bus ticket (Had Rs 20, but the ticket was Rs 11) & neither did the conductor have Rs 9 with him. So the passenger next to me handed over Rs 1 to conductor on my behalf.

More than Thankful, it's one of the most unforgettable moments in my life & each passing second I couldn't even breathe & felt completely uneasy. The stranger got down at next bus stop which was like in next 5 minutes or so, but, I couldn't speak or even think straight.

And to make matters worst, I couldn't even open my mouth to ask the Gentleman's name or even Thank him; damn on my bleddy emotions!!

That gentleman put me into a state where, I've to keep thinking what should I do to ever repay him for his generosity

Re: Did strangers ever help you? Narrate here..

Scenario 1- Somewhere in 2007-8, splendor ran out of breath on middle of the road. Kept kicking. No response. Fuel gone. I started pulling it.
Two people on xyz bike came, offered some fuel to reach nearby bunk.. didnt take the money, went.

Scenario 2- I received the best comment ever. There is a long stretch of some 2 kms from Kalindikunj to Abul fazal Enclave(Okhla, Delhi). Some rickshaw pullers are always waiting there. People share the rickshaw and pay half the money which is some 5 rs each.
I was a regular on that stretch from 2006-09 on my splendor. I never gave lift to people who were asking for lift there. I usually was accompanied with a colleague, but some days he would be late/early and I wud be alone. Some men will walk that stretch and I would stop near them and would offer lift myself.
One fine day I gave lift to a similar walk the distance guy. In his mid 40s. He told me that he has been walking this stretch from 8 years and no one stops to offer him lift. When he asks for lift some people say spend 5 rs uncle and speed away. He did praise me which I dont remember but I replied that the times are tough and giving lift is risky on this stretch that's why people hesitate to do so.

Scenario 3 - The same stretch, I gave lift to a guy in his early twenties. He kept a heavy bag in between us and leaned over it. By back made a ')' to accommodate his weight. I kept telling myself that its a matter of just 2 km, adjust!

Re: Did strangers ever help you? Narrate here..

December 1st, 2013. North Goa, somewhere near Mapusa on the Mumbai-Goa highway.

I and my wife were at Goa for our anniversary it was our first day of exploration. I always had a desire to ride a Royal Enfield some day, and this desire finally came true when I rented a RE Electra 350 at Goa. I filled her up with ~9 lits and had been thumping around all day, having taken her to Calangute-Anjuna-Vagator and beyond. After a day of thumping around on the beautiful, narrow, tree-lined roads, as I made my way back towards Panjim, I thought of hitting the Mumbai-Goa highway to open up the bull and get the real feeling of a RE on full thrust. And so I did. We blasted down the highway at 85-90 and though I wasn't feeling as comfortable as I would have felt on my ceeber, I was enjoying it to the core.

                    Then it happened. Splutter...thump thump...splutter...
Ouch. Can't be the fuel, no way. I filled 9L and I hadn't covered more than 150 kms. Still, checked the tank to be double sure. There was something like quarter a liter splashing around. Spillage? Theft? Poor mileage? There was no way to know. And idiot me, for not having checked the reserve knob (ignorance that comes from riding a fuel-injected bike!)

Next step? Google. Nearest fuel stop 6kms. And a lady next to me. Tried all 'classic' tricks to get the remaining quart of fuel into the bull's belly, but in vain. A search for the choke ended in wasting 15 mins of my time. Seemed like I was doomed to push a 180kg monster for the next 6 kms. And so we started walking, flashing my indicators to warn the speeding traffic.

Hardly a few minutes into the push, and I hit a steep gradient and was despairing how to push the heavy bullet over the steep climb, when I noticed this Ford Fiesta stopping about 50m from us, reversing and coming towards us. I was scared - for the safety of my wife. A lean guy stepped out, asking if we had a problem. Embarassed, I told him that I wasn't very familiar with Bullets, and that I had an almost empty tank, and that I could use all the help I get. That's when 2 more guys, and a lady stepped out from the Fiesta (and I was very much reassured after seeing a lady passenger). They were pretty much helpless too, and with a diesel car to boot, they couldn't even offer to siphon off some fuel. The lady passenger suggested they tie our bike and tow it behind them but that would be tricky. That's whan the third passenger cuts in with a "hey wait!!! I know where the choke is!!!" and reaches under the tank and pulls a lever near the carburettor, pushes the bike a few meters, plonks the gear and...burrp...burrp...gurgle...thump thump...the bull was back to life!!

Not wasting a second, we hopped on to the momentarily alive bull and flashing a thumbs-up, moved on to cover as much as we could with the remaining fuel. But that was not the end of it.

Four kilometers into the ride, the thump turned into a splutter again, and this time I know there was no point trying to tilt the bike or pull the choke - I was running on a dry tank. There was also no point waiting for someone to help either. it was around 9pm, and expecting more help (after what we already received) was stupidity. Thanking god and the good samaritans on the Fiesta for the four kilometers of effort that I saved, we began the push for the remaining two kilometers.

20 minutes later, another kilometer to cover, and I was soaked in sweat top-to-toe. An Activa pulls over next to us. Petrol Over? The mid-aged rider asked. Swiping off my sweat, I nodded. Very calmly, he asked me to get on the bike. I got the idea - there was a CCD nearby, I asked my wife to wait there while I'd go and fetch some fuel in a bottle. But my benefactor had other plans.
"no no, you sit on your bike" he instructed, pointing at the bull. And then he signaled my wife to sit behind me. He reversed slightly, revved up, placed one foot on the rear crashguard...and off he went with us, pushing us till the petrol bunk.

Two god sent angels in one day, and I can't thank them enough for saving my day.

Biking is not about how many Km/h you put on your Speedo. It's about how many miles you put on your Odo. Ride Safe, Ride Long!

Re: Did strangers ever help you? Narrate here..

                      This happened latest Yesterday....

I was suppose to work till 11:30 pm and decided to leave home by 8 and take up the pending work from home(This we do most of the times as the time exceeds). The bike started and went around 1km and bike suddenly was off, the was checking and understood the current supply was not passing correctly, so called up few of my frenz (so called) who were never bothered to help me.. i called them more than 10 times and they were giving me lame excuses... so left them and started pushing the vehicle for about 3 kms to find a mechanic and were in the road a stranger helped me in tailing the vehicle for around 2 km and helped me in finding the mechanic and was along with me till the issue was fixed. He was even kind enough to ask me weather he can leave or needs his company for few km to check if the vehicle is going on without any problem.

Lesson learnt : A stranger helps at difficult times but not all friends do help at the right time when needed.

Even I have the habit of giving a lift to someone who waves at me. I sometimes personally stop and ask people if I can drop them anywhere. My only funda in doing these is simple - I might be stranded someday or in trouble just as anyone could be. Maybe the favour might be returned by some unknown angel. I for one wanna be that angel for some soul too. I know the risks involved but I am also of the opinion that there is someone up above who would protect me no matter what. And sometimes you would know when it is safe to do so. I go by my gut feeling and with a calm mind.

I'm a cyclist and I received help from strangers twice.

Once while riding from Karcham to Sangla in Spiti valley, a driver stopped me and insisted that I get in his mahindra yut as the area is landslide prone and also sangla is very far, high. I told I'm comfortable and don't need help. He then pleased me to get in. He dropped me till few kilometres ahead of Sangla and went in his way. I can never forget this help.

In another situation, I started to ride form Vijayawada to my home which is 243 km away. Usually 243 kms would be finished in approximately 13-14 hours. On that day, since I rode very leisurely clicking pictures every now and then it became very late. After riding 16 hours, I was still 40-50 Km away from my home. I have front, rear light but a person on splendour rode along with me till I have reached my home town. I told him many times, that it was not a problem for me and I'm habituated to nightrides, yet he did not stop guiding me with his front light and rode at 15-20 kmph all along. All the way we chatted and after insisting that I will go to my home, safely he left me around 2-3 kms away from home. This is the kindest gesture, I ever encountered on a ride.

                              1st Incident:
It was the regular Mumbai rains creating havoc my office was at Andheri and home at Tilak nagar around 8-9 kms
Just got down from office saw all transport was affected buses were packed. Rickshaw were not available due to flooding.
Also lady public were waiting for rickshaws.
Was just gonna start walking towards home had done this 3-4 times.

Just then a biker came and stopped in front of me asked me where to?
I said Chembur he said i will drop you too Ghatkopar. I was more than happy and surprised.
He dropped me near Ghatkopar bid him my thanks off we went our separate ways.

One of the moments I will cherish my life time and which restores our faith in humanity.

                              2nd Incident:
We were heading to Ladhakh, had reached to srinagar did the customary shikara ride and had dinner and got back to our parked bikes.
The bikes tire was deflated it is a unicorn with tube type tires so no question of riding it to hotel.
The three of us pushed the bike back to the hotel taking turns not a puncture shop in sight as it was late in the day.
In the morning set out to search for a puncture shop came to know curfew was on in Srinagar as pm was to visit and people were against that.
So most of the roads were covered with barbed wires.
Finally after much searching found one shop and got the tyre fixed.
while fixing the tyre a middle aged man came by on his scooter and striked a conversation with us.
Immediately he invited us to his house. His was a nice multi storied place reached there he offered us tea and bread omelette in silver wares.
After this breakfast the person took out his scooter and escorted us to our hotel.
He also offered us to take us out of city as there was curfew and we would get in trouble.
We packed our stuff checked out, readied our bikes to leave for ladhakh. The person rode his scooter in front guiding us through the by lanes of Srinagar and to safety.
He rode with us at least for 20kms before setting us back on our tracks safely.

He did not stop at that he continued calling us and asking us how we were fairing the whole journey.
Even after the journey he kept calling us many years to follow on.

Do not know what begets people and make them do such acts of kindness but humanity exists for sure.
Have experienced it more times than mentioned here.

                              Chao, Ride Safe.
