What would be the ideal age to go for this operation? I am 19.

wait until you are 22-23 with a history of no change in eye sight for atleast one year..i mean your sight should be constant for one year prior to the surgery..

I got LASIK done over 2 months back, my refraction was -5.25 and -4.75 and had been wearing lenses for over 5 years.

I was using monthly disposables but the dependence on lenses and the problem of wearing spectacles in helmets + juggling during travel/work just got to me. The feeling is just pure bliss, especially since i've been wearing spectacles for over 11 years now!

LASIK should, as has been previously mentioned be done at the age of 21-24 or more (a lot of my cousins and friends have gotten it done later) with you refraction being stable for a year.

Also, I would suggest you read up on the topic thoroughly. The choice between PRK and LASIK is to be made only after reading bout the advantages//disadvantages of both.

I would suggest you go for the latest technology available as corneal mapping ensures least loss of the corneal surface.

You can refer to the website of the US FDA as well which gives a complete FAQ as well.

I'm not sure if i should paste the link for the Eye Hospital i got it done from, let me know if you need it i can send it as a PM.

Any other questions, feel free to ask.

I too had my LASIK done last week in Kolkata. The procedure was an advanced form of LASIK, called Zyoptix by Bausch & Lomb. Checkout the steps involved on the site (Google Zyoptix). It was carried out after a pre-check of the eye's suitability for undergoing the procedure.

Post-surgery, I am having a little trouble focussing, very little though. Maybe there is still some power left (it was -8 something earlier). I'll get in touch with a local doctor to get checked for power in a couple of weeks. It's much better than being dependent on glasses or the maintenance required for contact lenses.

                Hello Xbhpinas,

I am planning to have this surgery in couple of weeks, provided i am eligible for that.

Any one here please recommend some good surgeons/hospitals in bangalore?

I beg, please recommend only if you or your close friends had an experience with them.

                Thanks

For guys who have done Lasik/PRK, one important note: Please take good care of the eye documents like numbers in each eye etc after your operation. Preferably, put them in some bank locker. In old age, when you have to undergo other eye surgeries, you will need this info, which is NOT retrievable by any means once it is lost.

is this lasik only for people who have large power specs etc ? my eyesight is also not 100% and long time ago i checked it was + or -.5 or something . can this completely fix eyesight and is it permanent ? im just paranoid they might blind me or something so never thought about surgery or anything .

^^^Why to make your eyes go for surgery for such a small power.

There is no known case of blindness due to lasik till now, However one percent of people have experienced serious side effects.

Though its your take, i won't recommend LASIK for such a small powers.

People from bangalre, Please let me know the best surgeon in bangalore for LASIK?

I had been thinking of getting Lasik done since the last 8-10 years, but at that time it was too expensive

Have been using glasses since 1980 with a beginning power of -3 and after that, wearing contacts for the past 23 years at power -5 -- still -5 .

A friend of mine with a power of -13 got it done a few months back and now he doesn't need glasses for short-sightedness, but still needs one for reading (he is over 40 - like me).

Now even though Lasik has become pretty inexpensive, there's no point in me getting it done as I am already 44 and even if my myopia is corrected, I would still need glasses for reading .

So, sticking with contacts for now.

i have number of -1.5 both eyes. Should i go for lasik?

i mean is that really beneficial? is it necessary every operation would be a success? How long would it last and any side effects in long term?

since my number is low and i can see well without specs, i never bothered about lasik.

BTW i look much better in specs

I had -1 both eyes, from 25 yrs but did not go for any glasses or contacts. After 50 now the eyes have changed and am able to see clearly all distant and near objects. But my doc told me i will find it hard to read papers in a couple of months as the eyes are changing due to age...

The best surgeon for Lasik as recommended by my friend who had undergone this surgery an year ago is "LV Prasad eye hospital in hyderabad". I asked my oculist to recommend some good hospital in bangalore but he too strongly recommended LV prasad in hydearabad and also maxvision which is also in hyderabad.
