  • How do you feel about random people touching your bike?

I recently bought a new Thunderbird 500 and whenever I park it somewhere, I see people sitting on it, taking a feel, fiddling with the switches and then the worst kind are those who keep twisting the RVMs to all the odd angles just so as to check out their hairstyles.

Looking at the bike and just taking a general feel, I'm okay with but hate it when they sit on them or mess around with the switches. And they sit on it with their whole weight on the side stand, I feel like smacking them on their heads!

I mean you don't see a parked car and starting checking out the upholstery and everything, so just because a bike doesn't have it's seats and panels locked inside doesn't mean you start fiddling with them.

And they should understand themselves, I feel awkward myself telling grown up adults not to mess around with the bike. And then they give a look as if I'm taking their birthright from them.

Soon to be rant thread approved

You think people mess around with motorcycles. Try owning a relatively high end cycle in India. People are used to seeing bikes, but a cycle with gears, field day for the fiddlers on the roof.

The 'paradox' here is that the more expensive it is the less chances of anybody fiddling with it. Cheaper things like bikes and cycles are the most prone to fingerers. Nobody ever messes with a white coloured SUV, especially Safaris and Scorpios
Biking is not about what you have between your legs, its all about how well you use it!!!!!!!

Well Initially I had the same feeling when I own my first generation Pulsar. Then I was forced to park my bike everyday in the railway station parking lot for almost 6 long years. And believe me my baby has seen a lot of these meddlers. To name a few - sit, RVM dislocated, seat tear, scatches and the worst bike fallen on her side. Well as time went by I have to live with the feeling that it is life and she can be gentle and she can be a bi**h. But every time a scatch or a bent handle bar is found due to the meddlers. I just change them but always with a .

I'd like to tell you what all happens around my bike in my college.
People sit on it like they own it. ( I give em a nasty look to make em leave)
They fiddle with the mirrors, change the position of my adjustable levers, change the gears.
Hell someone even stole the oil cap from my duke and I ended up getting oil sprayed all over the bike and being stuck for 2 hrs. Later on had to take the bike to the svc by inserting a plastic cap, which a nearby shop owner gave me.

Mostly the look makes them leave
or else I have to go there and ask them to leave.
My friends have even faced the stickers of their bikes being stolen just because someone wanted to teach them a lesson.

Seeing people sit on my bike makes my blood boil as it messes up the side stand. But there's not much we can do other than ask them to leave politely. Or else the sadistic people we have here will try to teach us a lesson by messing up our expensive bikes just because they feel insulted by our actions.

          ^^
Same here with my Duke. But I try to keep a close watch from afar until they start fiddling. If I go sooner near my bike I have to answer hundreds of questions ..the most frequent being "Yeh yamaha ki hai na"

Re: How do you feel about random people touching your bike?

It is a common sight where people sit on bikes, fiddle with the switches, fiddle with the gears, etc especially if the product has been newly launched and has recently created a wave of admiration in the market. It happened when the CBZ (classic), Pulsar (classic), R15, FZ, were new to the markets. It happens with RE's and RX's too irrespective of the model. I can at least understand this situation because the people who initially just touch the bike to feel it, get carried away by the looks and start fiddling with the bike (though it is unfair). But what makes me get really irritated is when people stand (or rather sit on others bikes) in the parking area and have a chat. They don't care if the bike is parked in side stand or not... they don't care if their finger ring is scratching the petrol tank or is damaging the seat... they don't care if they are resting their weight on the headlight mask when standing next to a bike.

This parking lot menace is applicable even for cars. I have seen people resting on the bonnets and tapping with their fingers (of course with finger rings in place) to some tune.

Many people don't even care for their own bikes. I have seen quite a few poorly maintained CBR's, R15's, Pulsar's, FZ's, etc with visible scratches, broken fenders, broken indicators/tail lights. If they are least bothered about their own bikes, who are we to ask such people to behave well with other's bikes parked next to them?

After all, we live in a place where people use the petrol tank as a helmet stand even when riding the bike .

Re: How do you feel about random people touching your bike?

When I go to my aunt's house, the neighbouring kids there climb upon my bike.. not by it's foot peg but by the bike's side fairing. A kid placed his foot on the turn signal indicator to climb upon my bike and broke the indicator. They usually fiddle with the bike's switches and still I remember the time when a kid wrote rhymes on my bike's side fairing with a sketch pen. Good thing it was easily erasable. Just imagine what might have happened if he was armed with a permanent marker on that day.

Excuse me! followed by the glare or visa versa usually does the trick, if not then a couple of fingers and a thumb massaging a wind pipe along with a swift heel to a knee cap definitely keeps them off, though sometimes you may need to leave the spot fast.
Alternatives a dash of pepper spray and/or a buzz from a taser, chokehold, pani puri in the eye balls, meat etc.

Also best to keep these pesky fokkers away in the first place, an alarm system, chilli/lime and bovine, grease in hidden places they may touch, vicious dog tied to the bike, rubber snake, voodoo dolls, photo's of N******* M**i etc......
Beware of Bread, don't say I didn't warn you!
More than 98 percent of convicted criminals are bread eaters !
Statistics show that more than 75 % of violent crimes are committed within 24 hours of eating bread !
Bread is known to be extremely addictive. Subjects deprived of bread and given only water, actually begged for bread after just two days !
Bread has been proven to kill. Scientists have now uncovered alarming evidence that 100% of the people who eat bread will eventually die !

This weekend, I went to office picnic to a place called shikhar falls, in the outskirts of dehradun. we left our bikes and began our hike to the waterfall about 5 kms away. We spent the day at the spot and came back at about 4 in the afternoon and what do I find.... Somebody chipped off the paint of my 5 month old R15 with a pointy stone. There are scratches all over the tail section, like scraped with a blade.

I collected 1.5 years of salary to buy it and then somebody spoils it for no reason. Couldn't sleep that night.

Why do good for nothing people who don't do anything, dont achieve anything, have nothing better to do, have to ruin somebody's dream.

The next day at parking of a busy road someone fiddled with my mirrors and broke one of it , and gave scratches on the stickers and made it an old bike.people dont understnd how much precious it is to us.
