Top 10 Reasons Why Harley Riders Don't Wave at Oth

Madhavan: In many countries like in the US and in mainland Europe riders wave at each other whenever they cross/overtake each other. It is customary and carries forward the spirit of brotherhood. The same culture has been carried over to Ladakh and we wave at fellow riders frequently on the circuit. I am not aware if it happens anywhere else in India.Originally posted by rameshmadhavan View PostFriends
Why are we having this kind of discussion, when we are riding in any sort of bike...why do we only expect the other biker to wave...did we wave at any other biker
Why only a HD riders???have you ever seen any super biker waving hands on any other traveller (though in a touring attire)
The joke is on HD riders who are generally stereotyped as snobbish. In India, i have seen a parallel with some bullet groups having that same kind of chauvinism. Maybe its just my timing or the colour of the sky at that time, interacting with bulleteers has been the most irritating experience with me. Near Karu, i flagged down a few bulleteers who were coming from Manali and i just wanted to enquire on the status of Tanglang La. What i got instead was a lecture on having 'no fear', 'ride is not about the road', 'run around your city if you want good roads' blah blah!
It got me so pissed off that i had to 'dude.. i have been there done that last year.. ' him to shut him up.
Ah, why so serious on a joke thread

Ok Chill....we always tend to look up at bigger guys than us to wave for us
and we dont bother to wave at smaller guys than us
Im a bulletter for almost more than a 10yrs now and i tend to atleast show a thumbs up for other rider who is saddled up / touring / geared types and not to anybody else who either show off or give a cheap look at types
I have waved at few big bikes (SPB's)and most of those have not bothered to respond back, but still I show in a brotherhood. There had been few biggies who have stopped by to discuss when they see saddled bikes.Never Give up on something that you can't go a day without thinking about.
Cheers

Was just about to ask why are people so bothered about waving at each other and just then i read Mik's post and i guess i got the point.
There were a couple of instances where riders have waved at me, my concentration was totally on the road and i could not wave back. I find i pretty difficult to wave at some one even when there is minimal traffic on road.
The point i'm trying to make is, in case you see some one who isn't waving back at you, it might also mean that he is not good at multi tasking ;D
On a lighter note,
May be riding a harley itself is a multi-task :PApache 180

10) They're way too cool to acknowledge any non-Harley riders.
9) They're too busy daydreaming about owning a real motorcycle.
8) Their engine is too weak to handle the added wind resistance of a waving hand.
7) The Rottie (in back of the pickup truck with the tied down Harley) is easily upset by rapid hand movements.
6) Are you kidding? Risk their lives trying to control a Harley with just one hand!
5) They're too busy humming "Born to be Wild" while fantasizing about being Peter Fonda or Dennis Hopper.
4) They're too busy figuring out how to pay for next order of genuine Harley accessories (including the "official" HD calculator needed to add up the cost).
3) If we really have to tell you, you won't understand anyway.
2) They can't see you because their half-shell helmet keeps falling down over their eyes.
1) They think we are actually trying to draw their attention to the parts falling off their bikes, and they are sick and tired of it.

Lol. Isn't HD the world's largest selling motorcycle brand? Correct me if I'm wrong.
Though nowadays a lot of quality cruisers hv arrived like Victory, Star, Triumph, Indian, etc wich are giving HD a run for its money.

You surely can say that. But remember two things
1) An Enfield is officially certified as a "Mardon ki Sawaari."
2) No other bike is worshipped. (Om Banna's Bike a.k.a Bullet Baba, Rajasthan.)

Re: Top 10 Reasons Why Harley Riders Don't Wave at Oth
Frankly speaking the spirit of biking is new in India. Us Indians are still getting acquainted with this stuff. And normally people buy a big bike when they have crossed an age of 30. And at that time they surely have got their bellies out which cant be rested even on a super naked street bike. So the only option they have is a cruiser since Enfield is now a common brand. And Harley being the only cruiser brand, known world wide in India they buy it. So barring a few whom I feel probably many of the riders are new to this religion.
These are my views. They maybe wrong. If they are feel free to correct me.

This might be awkward, but the only 'Biker's Wave' I ever got in Kerala were from 2 Harley riders on the Allepey-Ernakulam Highway.
They were geared up on their HDs and so was I on my CBR250R.
Felt really good...

Re: Top 10 Reasons Why Harley Riders Don't Wave at Oth
Okay.. first I totally fail to understand why always there are threads joking around HD owners ... irrespective of how much insane you think about them in your head.
Secondly, there's a weird prejudice against the HD owners about them having tons of Air about them and looking everyone else down.
Neway... back to the post... I have had each and every HD/Indian/Buell/MVAgusta/Yamaha/Honda/Suzuki/KTM/.... owner waving out to me while I was on Interstates while my stay in US. And yaah.. I wasnt riding any of these brands either (in fact was on BMW ST800).
SO I think we as in India are still evolving with the concept of brotherhood gestures on road. I have hardly found anyone waving to me irrespective of what I am riding. So I think this is kinda little overboard to make it "specific" to HD owners
P.S I am not an HD rider/owner/fan ... Just smeone who wdnt necessarily wave at you next time if we cross paths.

Re: Top 10 Reasons Why Harley Riders Don't Wave at Oth
I believe this post was made for HD owners in the states and not in India. The kind of tattoo sporting, yellow-bearded, badass looking bikers there.
India is a grumpy country. People rarely smile at strangers, let alone flash gestures of brotherhood. These feelings are noticed only among groups of people having common interests like bikers, trekkers etc.
Yes, India is still to evolve to smile unconditionally at total strangers. Infact, even if you are riding a top-spec hayabusa (which happens to be the most identifiable SBK on Indian roads), people will prefer admiring it in their heads rather than showing you a thumbs-up.
Coming back to the topic, I found Indian HD owners rather down to earth
My signature thread proves it to some extent!

Re: Top 10 Reasons Why Harley Riders Don't Wave at Oth
Just to add to the fun without any offence... This is what I told my friend having a Bullet when he out of nowhere started talking crap about my bike....What follows is all a funny leg pulling session meaning not to hurt my friend, just taking his class when he said the top speed he has achieved is 200 kmph and can beat a Pulsar 220 easily. WHAT?
First of all, I suggest your Royal Enfield renames the bike to Mountain 350
, its not a bullet in any way, or may be their sales team did not comprehend what their technical team was saying and misnamed it so.
They must have said that "see, its a higher CC bike, but that additional weight and improper aerodynamics and that incorrect weight distribution is gonna slow it down". And the sales team must have heard "Ok, the bike is heavy, but its higher CC will overcome it"
If you are a fan of body massage while riding to office and happy with having numb arms and hands and feet by the time you are over with 100 kms of riding and are ready to wait for a whole year after booking it, then Bullet is the bike for you and hence you bought it.
Also, you look like a big fan of sound pollution. You just cannot keep the stock exhaust(which is also loud enough for nothing). You want to upgrade to what.. Punjab Dhol
, and what not not type of exhaust. A Yamaha R1 makes less noise(or should I say Music) at idling than your mountain 350(not a music in any way).
You say it is about the feel of the bike.
. What feeling... cant corner, cant accelerate, cant brake properly, breaks down now and then, not stable at high speeds, mileage is low and tank capacity is like what 100 litres(sarcasm)..... what feeling are you talking about.
Also, you want a bike that is gonna take a whole year to be hand manufactured
before delivery.
And then, you wan to add as much brass accessories as you can to decrease its as it is low performance. Admit it you are dumb. No wonder you have to go to gym to build your body as you have to push your bike now and then.
You feel very proud (duh) when you tell people how often you have to correct the wheel rim because it has spokes and you have to adjust them. ROFL. This reminded me of the days I had cycle and had to go to a cyclewala to get it fixed.
I settled the whole argument with a drag race. He ate my dust.
