This is some really great piece of information. I always believed the Canons to have these motors inbuilt. Thanks.

So, the higher end Canons would also not have these motors, coz the lenses already have them?

I think you are mentioning the costs of the body only. I checked out some places but the cams were being sold with a kit lens. I want to buy the nifty-fifty in place of the stock 18-55 mm that they give out. And later go for a 18-200 mm. Haven't come across any place which will do that for me, yet.

The MRP on the D60 VR is 39500/- with bill and Date of Manufacture as FEB'09.Had just checked it out in Lajpat Nagar. The dealer offered me 35,000/- as his last best price.
      That's a friggin rip-off.

Check the price there. Some physical shops actually quoted me lower prices than that!

@Race_Developed: Rs.35,000 for the "age old" D60!? The dealer must be crazy and you would be crazier still if you did go ahead and got the D60 for that price! Go to Chandni Chowk and get the D60 if you want, from there. You would be amazed by the prices that ANY camera/ lenses are available there.

I got my EOS-400D, lenses, UV Filters, lens cleaning brush, etc. from there (Chandni Chowk), and everything has worked absolutely flawlessly till date. I don't see why people crib so much about a so called 'gray market' product. Yes, I guess at certain instances the 'gray market' product might not work satisfactorily, but then again they DO give you a 20 day warranty period!

Thankfully, whatever I have got has worked perfectly! As far as this discussion is concerned, my personal choice would be the EOS-450D and NOT the 1000D!
        :)

Let me give you a very simple advice, first just think what subjects you want to shoot. Landscapes? People? Wildlife? Sports? IF landscape u need wide angle lenses. People than portrait lenses, med zoom, Wildlife then telephoto lenses, Sports as well. Depending on this just review the kind of lenses you will be buying their cost and then choose your body (Canon,Nikon,Olympus,Pentax,Sony....etc) and build your system. Well bodies come and go its no big deal. Its the glass that's gonna bring out those classy images, the body just compliments it. Hope you get what i am saying. Keep the investment a 70:30 or an 80:20 ratio, maximum investment on glass (lens) and the rest on body. Trust me this approach is going to help you in the long run.

            1) Try Photo circle or few other shops you must be able to get a D80 for your budget or any other similar body.

            2) VR/IS depends on your ability to handhold. If you can take shots at 1/20 without shake then you have very very steady hands but I would say go for it.

            3) Things like Spot metering and rest are used in select shots and lighting conditions so depending on your awareness of using them on regular basis, decide.

            4) You wont go wrong with both. Just think about the lenses from which you are going to build your system.

I had checked the same at CHROMA and was quoted 32,000/-, but i don't think it was a VR.

Am too planing on the D60 but am confused as this is a 06 release and with out the AF motor for the lense.
              >Also is it okay to buy it from grey market???
              >My friend he could get it from UK at a cheaper price, but then am worried about the warrenty part. Kindly advice.....

Nope. The price quoted for me was with the VR or what ever lens that come by default with the BOX pack. As per the recent conversation with him, he claimed that dealers get a minimum of 6000 rupees profit on every camera. Just because i know him well, he discounts the profit margin a bit

P.S: The price quoted was with 2 year warranty!

Silver_falcon: You have enough info about both models you are interested in by now. As suggested earleir, go to a showroom and check the models out by yourself and see which suits you better.

Silver_falcon: If you do get a good deal, please do share it with us.

If you're going Nikon, I stil suggest you try to get a D80. It is a semi pro body, with a top display and the ability to AF on any lens. The 50mm prime for film SLRs from Nikon is very cheap (comparable in price to the canon one here).

                            Ofcourse I will.

I haven't found any kind of discounts for the D80, which is the only reason I'm not picking it up. I'll be happy to pick it up if I get a good discount. Also keep in mind my fixed budget. There's no extending beyond 35k

You can checkout my D70s, in case you want to get a feel of how the D80 might feel in your hands.

PS:- From what I have heard, the D80 is slightly smaller than the D70s . By the way D80 was the replacement model for D70s.
