Hmm.. Im not too sure about the gray market down here. Never bought anything this expensive in gray. Lets see. Now, some more researching on the price of the IS lens and I'll be good to go.Originally posted by Aryan View Post

The 450 D is available for 42k with 18-55 kit lens, i am not sure that its with IS or not. But what i have learnt that its ready for a replacement as 500D is just aroundthe corner, so can we expect some sort of clearance sale on this? And what is the expected/price of 500D?

The 500D would be priced around 45k, I guess. I think it is a good VFM with the sort of features it boasts.Originally posted by BANDHAV View PostThe 450 D is available for 42k with 18-55 kit lens, i am not sure that its with IS or not. And yeah, we can expect a clearance sale on the 450D.

BTW 1000D doesn't have a spot meter which the D60 has!!
For me it's a very important feature, dunno about you mate.
+the D60 has -+5 stops exposure compensation while the 1000D has -+2 stops only!
Apart from that i don't think Live view is such a great feature, i have it on my cam but i have rarely used it.
My pick: D60Last edited by Jukebox; 04-12-2009, 05:47 PM.

I guess people who shoot Macro surely use Live View a lot. That is what I have heard. From what I remember, you are not terribly inclined towards Macro. But I do remember your initial enthusiasm on seeing Live View. The Wheel was a great invention; Two Wheels with a Motor in between was even better!

From my limited use of live view, I didn't like the implementation in DSLRs at all. It is slow and if you use phase detection, you gotta wait as the screen goes blank each time the camera re-focuses. The Sony Alphas IMO have the best LV (Other than the Panasonic G1, which is not really an SLR)and even those are nowhere as seamless as the ones in compacts, bridges or even cellphones.
On the other hand, I have a friend who dibbles in astrophotography and he loves the feature very much.

I wont call myself a Nikon Guy, it's just that i have grown up in photography with a Nikon and i'm more comfotable with it.Originally posted by ken cool View PostThus spake the Nikon Guy!

And i have serious plans of buying either a 'Blad' or a Mamiya sometime in near future so i'm just a photographer with Nikon gear!!
I would never suggest someone a Nikon just because i use or like Nikon.
Intial enthusiasm = Drool factor (it was a new feature).
It does come handy in situations (Ad shots/Astro photography) where precise focus is of prime importance and that too on a tripod (preferably)
And moreover Liveview in 1000D is not the same as it is in D300 or Canon's higher end models.
Infact ideally i wud suggest him a D40 it's a perfect learners camera. It is a D60 minus the extra megapixels which he is not gonna need unless he want to make huge prints!!

My bad. I thought you were a Nikon guy. Coz I remember having a shot of yours somewhere holding a Canon and you distinctly saying, "Me holding a Canon, unbelievable!"Originally posted by Jukebox View PostI wont call myself a Nikon Guy, it's just that i have grown up in photography with a Nikon and i'm more comfotable with it.
Me too would have loved to do that, discuss it even, but then that is not within the purview of this thread I guess...Originally posted by Jukebox View PostAnd i have serious plans of buying either a 'Blad' or a Mamiya sometime in near future so i'm just a photographer with Nikon gear!!
Agreed!Originally posted by Jukebox View PostIntial enthusiasm = Drool factor (it was a new feature).
Can you tell us if you can focus with Live View on? I think that one has to manual focus with Live View.Originally posted by Jukebox View PostIt does come handy in situations (Ad shots/Astro photography) where precise focus is of prime importance and that too on a tripod (preferably)
What does that mean not the same? You mean the quality of image on the screen?Originally posted by Jukebox View PostAnd moreover Liveview in 1000D is not the same as it is in D300 or Canon's higher end models.
You probably have a HUGE point there. Just that no one has raised this point earlier.Originally posted by Jukebox View PostInfact ideally i wud suggest him a D40 it's a perfect learners camera. That's true because it does not make sense to switch over to Canon unless Canon does something unbelievable. Infact i kinda enjoy the 'cold war'. So if i 'have' to choose sides i wud choose Nikon anyday, afterall they helped me learn photography with their dirt cheap FM10, how can i ditch them at a major juncture like this (where photography is taking a giant leap)Originally posted by ken cool View PostMy bad. It's best to manual focus so that one can maintain 'critical focus'.Originally posted by ken cool View PostCan you tell us if you can focus with Live View on? I think that one has to manual focus with Live View..
That's one of the biggest points, ask Aryan he is always looking at my cam's screen and saying,"Awesome screen man" + the screen does not go black while zooming in!!Originally posted by ken cool View PostWhat does that mean not the same? You mean the quality of image on the screen?.
Megapixels are just marketing gimmicks in my opinion.Originally posted by ken cool View PostYou probably have a HUGE point there. Just that no one has raised this point earlier.

I just went ahead and bought a mint condition D70S (and 18-70 mm lens).
After spending time with various entry level and midrange bodies, I had realized that I really didn't want to give up the extra control offered by the dedicated buttons, top display etc. Was just walking around looking at used camera shops and boom! There it was, as good as new. not even a scratch. Close inspection and some bargaining ensued and before I could think twice, I bought it.
It's the most spontanious thing I have done in a long long time!
