Ok.. Here comes my experienece of Road Rage...

This happened one day in Pune. The day was 28th Sept 2007. I had a great day in office. I was asked to deliver a task at a very short notice and without a second thought I said yes. Did it brilliantly and won lot of praises and accolades for same from lot of people.

Having done that... I came back home from office. Now I got a call from two of my friends and they invited me for dinner at their place. So went there and had fun. Now there was another guy invited too (Abhi). It was past midnight when me & Abhi left the place. I was not having a bike back then.
We were in Aundh. So I asked Abhi to drop me at my other friend's place in Wakad. He said fine. He was having HH Ambition. Now somewhere back of my mind I thought I should ride the bike. But it was the first time I met abhi so couldnt muster courage to ask him for his bike. We left together and reached Wakad. I called up my other friend only to find that he was not at home and was drunk too.

Me and abhi left from Wakad & I requested Abhi to drop me on Mumbai Pune Highway Pimpri. as he was to go to Viman Nagar, he said fine. I was happy that it was a good day in office too and with friends too .... But then...

Now the real scenario... We reached highway and started moving towards a chowk where Abhi was supposed to drop me. Moving Moving Moving... We spotted a car coming in wrong direction. OKKK FINE... Highway was more than 60 mt wide. Though this car SX4 was coming in the wrong direction... it was on the extreme left and nowhere it seemed to be a problem to me.

Next moment dont know what striked Abhi... He also took his bike to the extreme left of the road. I thought what the F*** he is doing. Now Abhi not only took the bike to the extreme left but also rode it between the SX4 and footpath. The time was 12.45 am. I sensed trouble.

Abhi stopped and started maroing gyan to the driver... Boss Aap wrong side pe chala rahe ho... aapko traffic rules follow karne chahiye. Aapne mujhe confuse kar diya.. aap mere raaste me aagaye... Blah Blah Blah...

I Sensed the trouble. They were 3 in the Car and I just had a glimpse of some plate above the number plate in the front. I said to the driver... Sorry Boss... Koi baat nahi. Humari bhi galti hai... hota hai... koi baat nahi... chodhiye... jaane dijiye.. And I waived my hand with a smile... But this stupid Abhi continued...

Next moment... The person sitting in the front was out and had already given a hard blow to Abhi. Oh boy... I thought we are gone now. I kept saying sorry. Now this guy who slapped Abhi seemed to be a Chela of the person who was driving. Chela kept saying... Tujhe pata hai tune kisse panga liya hai... Tujhe pata hai yeh kaun hai...

Here comes my turn. A hard blow on my face for not doing anything. Now I was carrying Abhi's guitar on my back. When I was given a blow.. I almost fell down. Felt like running away in other direction. The road was wide and there was a good possibility to escape but not leaving Abhi alone. Then the driver came out and next I thought Shit this guy will also beat us. But it turned out tthat he was there to stop the guy beating us.

Now another twist. There was a third guy sitting in the back seat of car who was watching all this. When he came out... He turned out to be 6feet tall guy and a body builder and seemed to be a body guard. I almost died of fear. He went to Abhi and said Tu kya karta hai?? Abhi said - I am a software Engineer. There comes a solid punch from that body buider. During all this... That first chap was busy in kicking & punching me.. presuming me to be a Punching Bag. I kept saying sorry.

Now that body builder came to me and said Tujhe pata tune kisse panga liya hai... I said Sorry and folded my hands.. pleading to leave us. There comes a solid kick in my stomach. I shouted Maaf kardo yaar...

Fortunately The Driver managed to keep away both the guys and we got few seconds to run... take the bike and run away. Now as Abhi started his bike after going 100 mtrs away... Abhi stopped and started shouting all the GAALIS he knew of. I panicked and said ... Abbey bhaag yahan se.. nahi to aur pitenge... Then next moment we were speeding up to vanish from the scene. I just turned back to see if SX4 was chasing us or not. Spotted a car coming (dont know if it was SX4 or not)... But by that time were doing 60-70kmph.

My flat was not far. We just quickly rushed inside the society and parked the bike in dark. And rushed inside the flat quickly.

After coming back Abhi said Main to unhe maarne waala that... I said just """"cut the crap and listen... They could have had a pistol or gun. We are fotunate that we are back without a single bruise. IF YOU HAD DARED to HIT THEM... Then I would have had run away from scene... Because you call me coward or whatever.. I just know that someone is waiting for me back home and my life is too precious to get involved into fights with violent strangers. Its just illogical coz you dont know what the other person might do. Even when its not my fault I would prefer to say sorry and leave. I dont want to have my enemies cropping up in Pune... when I am here to work and lead a good life. Before doing anything we should think that what can be the consequences. Leave aside the anger & frustration. Think practically"""

To look over it again. All this could have been avaoided at all... if
    1) If i had been riding the bike. I would not have stopped to share gyan like Abhi did. You see many people on road breaking the rules everyday. How does it matter to you.. until its a known person.
    2) If my friend in Wakad was there. I would not hve gone beyond Wakad.
    3) If I had a bike.
    4) If Abhi had not stopped to give his gyan.

Spotted that SX4 after 3-4 days in my area. It belonged to corporator of the area. Then I realized things could have gone further bad. Also the possibility of any police case could have been ruled out.

@inflammable: Woohhhh...that was bad. Actually, Pune is known for such b@!@$#. Anybody in Pune that picks a fight with anyone says "tujhe pata hain main kaun hun??? tune kisse panga kiya hai..."

I honestly and sincerely hope that such elements of the society are nothing but terrorists. They terrorize others based on their contacts and their social status. Most of these are political workers, social workers, corporators or politicians.

Good for you. But it seems that the stranger used your incident to settle a few personal scores with that punk...

Be careful with people driving on the wrong side in Pune. I was there for about 4 years and a very common thing I noticed is, if ppl want to turn left or right, they dont wait. They drive on the wrong side till they get a chance to cut in. This holds for everybody from bicycles, bikes, cars, luxury cars, tempos and trucks. For some reason they believe its their right (These ppl are commonly known as Puneri Peshwas )
I took this cab from Pune to Mumbai and one guy with me was getting late for his flight. The driver tells him proudly; "Idhar wrong side allowed nahi hai na, warna 5min mein pahucha deta. Mumbai apna Pune jaisa nahi hai" and they both wore a disgusted look till the airport. Pretty funny...
The city is still coming to terms with growth...
No personal offense meant to anybody from Pune...this was with reference to the current topic.

          Tc and be safe,
          Beo

You know there is no point in stopping on road and arguing with people when you know most of people wont accept their fault. Just smile... say sorry.. (even if it is their fault) Because sorry wont do any harm to you.. and will only help pacify the situation. Be patient, calm and composed. And you will find people swear by you.

niranjan : have heard a lot about these guys (yerwada area) and how they behave. As you said its better to use sense and get out of it diplomatically.

inflammable : that was bad man..... we all know people do misuse power , but its always better to avoid them ..... maybe your friend would have learnt it now ...

Glad to see Niranjan is safe. Thank your angels buddy!

When I was riding on Thane Belapur highway 2 years ago, at one intersection where I was passing, one biker crossed the road, causing me to break harshly. I being full of riding spirit, cursed him loudly, promptly mentioning his mother

A few minutes later, the same a$$hole turns up on my side, asking me to either stop the bike, or he will kick the running bike! And he actually tried to do so a couple of times! Then I stopped. He was a fat typical looking goonda, looking for a fresh fight. One more b@stard also came up to help him. He was all charged up and ready to hit, but my spectacled face and decent looks somehow prevented him! He was busting to say something, but somehow I used diplomatic words, said sorry and got the fcuk out. Never took a panga with anyone later on.

An old rider from my native place, who has experience of riding as well as driving of many years, gave me a simple advice later, which I ALWAYS follow. If the person in front of you is doing something which you may not approve, like not obaying rules, not turning the lights to dipper, or cutting lanes across, just say "tu mothya bapacha" (your father is greater person than anyone else, so you have all the contacts you need) and move on. This advice has helped me countless times, and also helped me keep my cool.

Similar incident has happened with me on the road towards wakad from aundh.....

and those were the times regionalism (read MNS) was at its peak...

Despite they hitting my friends bike hard frm the back , we had to listen to all ther abuses just cos I was not a resident of maharashtra.

From that day I still dont have full conviction on this place , no matter how hard I try and I still feel I dont live with my people...

Fortunately, all of us escaped unhurt..(that included a few of my female friends as well)....

Damn, never knew there were so many horror stories in Pune.

Anyways what I can suggest it that if you are in an unknown area always keep your cool no matter how wrong the other person is. Unless you are a bully yourself no use taking panga, we have better things to do in life while these goons dont.

Yups after hitting us from behind, I was all furious and asked him what the hell were you trying to do.
Things were heating up but would have ended in nothing but there was a local MAN (stinking from his mouth as if he had the chepest "desi tharra" available in pune...) came and directly started abusing us with all those wonderful marathi gaalis and said "tum log sudhroge nahi...tum log chup chaap yahan aane ka kaam karne ka aur koi bhi kuch bhi kahe chup chaap sunne ka aur yahan se nikalne ka..."...

I sensed things were getting out of hand added to the fact that we had a 2 of our female friends along with us, we felt its time to make a silent move....and we did....!

PS- They indetified us from our "tone" and when they asked us something in "marathi" where our faces went blank.....!
