Some 10yrs back, I had a argument with a joker who thought he is still in his circus and jumped on the road and crossed it on his cycle as if no other vehicle exists. I yelled at him and stopped at the traffic junction ahead. Few seconds I am attacked by some 10+ people.
Later I found that the guy was studying in my college and watching his actions, I realized I had better things to do than argue with some wannabe gangster in making.
Last eve, while I was on my way to home, was in a really hurry as I had to search and do some work on bike before it gets dark. In the process zoom past a rider on a loud avl350. Poor thing thought I'm racing with him and tried to do all he could to get ahead in traffic, that included getting off the road trying to overtake a bus from left as the bus was pulling over to left for a bus stop. Came onto a empty stretch, felt like slowing down and stop him to suggest him not to do all that stuff and atleast wear a helmet but then saw the sticker of a "club" on his bike, realized it will be a waste of energy to carried on zooming to my home, while the guy had the pleasure just managing to keep a Fiero behind his moded AVL350.

i have a similar story..i was on my way from a friends place 2 years ago on my RX when a MLA's car cut my lane too close and i yelled at the guy...before i could tell, the car pulled over and 3 sub-30 drunk guys punching the shit outta me and i fell off the bike
a bunch of motorcyclists stopped after seeing the chaos and tried to stop the fight..the MLA and his friends were too drunk to realize that and started swearing again..In no time the 11 fellas pounced on the 3 drunk clowns..I spared no time in kicking them as well..a few others broke the car glasses and other things while ppl looked on..This continued for 15 minutes and they were badly bruised, clothes torn and car screwed up..the 3 guys got up, with folding hands and tears in their eyes..Everyone just told them, dont underestimate a person coz he is alone and u are a VIP.. I went home with a sense of security and have a lot of respect for fellow motorcyclists since that day83' RD350 HT

Some tips for identifying guys that should be never confronted with.
1:These guys generally wear white shirts and white pants.Goggles, golden chains and other jewellery.
2.These guys have RX100s,Passions or Splendors.Or travel with their political masters in an SUV or big sedan. Usually a political sticker on them.
3.Spitting gutkha while on the move.
There are some hotspots where you will find these guys in abundance. These places should be avoided after generally the signals and police take leave. I am really thankful to my college because i have seen the worst of what can happen due to gangs!
These people usually take pride on how they confronted other gang. These things are like point gaining steps towards their political mentors.
I hope i have helped a bit in demystifying these people.

Sigh. Been there done that from my side too. Spent 4 college years in Pune.
Albeit the incident was in Pimpri near a popular medical college. (Yes, I said Popular) And the goons were working for some guy from northern India called Chand Bhai. All the f^&$#@s were drunk. Me and my roomie were just returning from a friend's place who btw is named Ilyas. Good friend of mine. But we were minding our own biz when outta the blue this Chand bhai in a Ford Ikon comes out with his drunk chamchas and begin to bother us. My friend and me were a little weary now and i was getting furious. They kept asking us where we were going and stuff. To prove that we were just out on an after dinner walk I suggested they could ask our friend Ilyas. To my utter amazement one of his gang members(they were 8 in all and us just 2) started muttering, "Yeh Ilyas bhai kaun hai" Although it sounds amusing to me now, back then amidst all the tension, i had only the expression of fear writ large on my forehead. That guy then said, "tu janta nahi humlog kaun hai." By then inspite of my fear I had lost it & I told him "toh kya karlega?" I thought the local police station just a few metres away would notice and come to our rescue.(which ofcourse didnt happen)
In the blink of an eye we started recieving kicks and blows. Later that Chand bhai himself caught us by our necks and walked along with us away from the gang and told us to run like hell.
Forgive and forget they say. But I sure won't forget that ass%$#e. Another point worth mentioning is the local goons that were with him lost all their drunken steam and ego whenever we passed by them and they were all alone. Fu#$&n cowards.
NO OFFENCE TO ANYONE!

Re: Two Sides of a Coin...err Pune
Well kudos to the people who used their presence of mind and backed out of such ugly situations. Similar thing happened to me few days back.
There was this huge traffic jam in pune starting right from pune university circle to pune station. Combined with the heat, this made for a very irritable at atmosphere for everyone. After ages I saw a green light to go straight near Pune central and was about to go ahead when a bullet stopped right in front of me carrying two 30 something local guys. This guy wanted to go right and was waiting for a right signal. However he was in the middle lane which is for people wanting to go straight.
I honked at him and this was enough for him to lose his cool. Both of them turned around and started abusing in the harshest manner possible. When I gestured angrily they got off the bike in a threatening manner. Now since this was a huge jam, there were many policemen deployed. I gestured to a senior looking 'officer kind of' policeman indicating this unruly behavior of the goons.
To my shock and disappointment, that policeman just slunk away from the scene. He instead directed a traffic policeman to us who took mine and that ruffian's license. We went to the side of the road to speak with the traffic guy. All this while these idiots were hurling abuses at me and the rider even threatened to slap me. He told me to remove my helmet, which I did not(obviously). The traffic guy told us that because of our quarrel his 'saheb' told him to cut a challan for both the parties. I asked him what my crime was?
The goon said I was honking. The traffic police told me not to honk in such a crowd! I was like WTF are you charging me for honking? Then he said nothing and returned the licenses. The goons went away giving me angry looks and I wore my gloves, and started to ride away. Then the traffic police came to me and said "Sir inn logo se panga nahi lene ka. Yeh ma@@@d log hai. wadere log (dont know what that means) Aapne dekha na saheb kaise bhaag gaye unko dekhke. Aap jao"
And I was fuming over the incapability of these folks to protect the common man.
Later on my mom and wife told me not to be upset and to slink out of such situations in the future. There are people waiting for us at home and it is just not worth the trouble. The way you ride is the way you are..
