My take: You can listen to music, so long as the volume is low enough to be aware of whats happening around you..

I'm personally not too much into music while riding.. I get those fits for music-while-riding once every month or so.. Then I kind of want no music while riding for the next few days..
I personally own those earphones that completely shut out outside noise, so they're quite dangerous.. Wouldn't recommend them for city riding..

The pleasure is when your rear wheel slides, and you bring it back; and when the front wheel lifts, you take your time bringing it back.

I don't listen to music while riding. It diverts my attention from the road. Moreover, my ears start aching after listening through the earphones.

Even I'm into listening to music while riding (specially the ride and back to/from office) ..Bought Nokia 5310 XM for this purpose.. No probs so far I do keep the vol at medium and can also hear the things happening around..

But then I'd to give this up since the client I work for suddenly decides its against security measures to carry a phone with cam into office
So now I'm back to my good 'ol Nokia 3310.. So no music on roads during office days

Everyday or Everytime i hear Music when i ride.......

But the Option is use is ......Single Earphone......
            Yes One sided Earphone.....
I used to hear music only on my Left ear and Right ear is left for Road Attention.....
Isnt that an Easiest way..........and Protective way.....?????

Ive been doing this since for more than 2years and never faced an Accident due to this.......

^^^ I have tried to do that but I feel that the ear thru which I am listening is heavier than the other . So, I either keep both the earphones plugged or none at all. Volume should be enough high/low to enjoy CLEAR music.

You should choose the EarPhone for this thing......
Those Earphones Provided with Samsung and Motorola --- have Bigg Ends at the Earphones.....they wont fit between the helmet and Ears....

Those of with the Nokia phones and Sony and those of with the Apple Ipod works better in this.....

IF the volume is medium so that u can hear other vehicles around you and even your own bike i would say its safe to do that especially on the highways and the rider is confident enough to do that. But while riding in city its really not recommended.

Normally, carrying a phone and earphone is a big hassle for me to carry to the office so I do not use music on the way or anywhere in the city since I found it too dangerous since vehicles and other riders come so close to the vehicle to make any changes as someone mentioned earlier anything can happen in a fraction of a second. So in a wise manner the city music is a big no no.

On the highway it's a different matter, I need music in order shave off some time since I'm a monthly rider to Kerala, although you have to make sure that you keep the volume low enough to know that some trucks or Volvo buses posseses serious threat by just coming up behind you and blaring away. In order to make sure that my head phones don't jump off, I put on the earphones, ties a bandana on top of my head and ears and then put on the helmet. Of course, this is not recommended every time, I usually turn off the music while in jungles and villages, you have no idea what might jump out in front of you.

i normally listen to music only while touring, though loudly...
                        Strictly no music while commuting...
my samsung earphones fit perfectly underneath my helmet.

my neighbor has attached small bluetooth speakers on his zma.....althogh the sound is not that loud after wearing helmet, i still liked that concept...
                        so what say???/

I do listen to music everyday while commuting in the city, as I travel 50km up & down, I feel very bored without music.

But I keep the volume very low & will use my RVM's to maximum extent for all the passing vehicles.

I have purchased Moto Rokr with snoop for this purpose only, doesn't have much problem with wiring, only prob is my ear aches if I use continuously under helmet for hours while touring.

I do not recommend listening to music while on a bike, because the only decent way to enjoy that is by using headphones under the helmet with a decent volume level to actually hear the music, and that'd mean that you will completely block out any external sound.... which is a bad thing when you cannot hear that Tata Sumo or Mahindra Bolero trying to run you over while overtaking you from the wrong side....

And anyway, I like the exhaust note of my pulsar 180 better.

I listen to music day every single time i ride.... earlier had a sony ericsson W810i with ear plugs which used to shud all the outside noise and now i use normal samsung earphones.... either times i did not have any confusions or close calls or accidents while riding....

I use both my rear views continously...so if some1 is trying to over take or flashing lights....i give them a way to go...

Also if i am following a lane(not the extreme right) and maintaining a decent speed, i dont have to worry about people right behind me overtaking unless i need to switch lanes or over take....and in either cases i use rear view mirrors and those suffice....

And if you are used to riding a bike for a decent amount of time, then u dont need to listen to the Revs and Engine to ride it comfortably......

Talking over the phone while riding is something which is distractive....which one should avoid unless necessary, else music keeps ur mood light and help you not to bother about the manic drivers on the road......
