Maruti vehicles are good for 2nd hand purchase, I also recommend TruValue, even though slightly pricier than outside market, they do a minor overhaul of the vehicle&give you a 1 year warranty with 3 free services too.
No problem for OEM spares upto 15 years minimum. There are many aftermarket spares also, though I don't recommend those. Esteem will be fabulous VFM, very low maintenance, good space, power&fun to drive. Have used one for 9 years/70K kms.&planned to keep it for a long long time but had to sell off coz it was wrecked in a freak accident by someone else.
Zen will be nice to drive around city&will offer better mileage too.
Both cars will be prone to wiring/electrical&a/c, power window problems after 5 years. Get those checked up. If the engine sounds smooth it should be in good condition&usable upto 1.5L kms.atleast. Door&interior plastics vibration will also be there. Can reduce them to a large extent by using new door beading&drilling in a few screws on the plastics inside at strategic locations.
There are good articles on Team BHP on how to buy a 2nd hand car, with detailed checklist of how to look for leakages, whether the chassis has taken an impact etc.etc. All the best in finding your new mate!

Mines a 1998model zen vx carb.Done 50k only.As sarvajit said for second hand go for a maruti,that too from truevalue.
About the spares-no problem faced till now,since its a maruti.I suggest you for an esteem as the zen is prone for body rattling and rusting after quite some time.Mine has started to rattle now.

Still looking at your reply i feel 11 years is a good life after which this problems of rusting started

Thats right,since i live in a corrosive environment too(Mumbai),but some have reported rusting at the early stage.I got the under belly treated with dinitrol antirust treatment during the delivery.The area suceptable to rusting is the drain area between the windshield and the bonnet i.e where the wiper motor is mounted.Another area would be the bottom of the doors where water tends to get accumulated.Other than that the zen is quite a capable city car,though i feel the engine is tad underpowered,wish maruti would have given the 1.3L engine as an option.
