The Canon 40D would be expensive than 25k, surely!
The 40D (Canon) costs Rs.50k+.

EDIT:
Bandhav, didn't mean to scare you like that man, especially, when you had just purchased your 1000D. As Aryan mentioned, was talking about the Nikon D40. Entry level SLR.Last edited by pranay; 09-11-2009, 07:08 PM.DoN\'t LivE tO DiE, dIe tO LiVe

Precisely, its surely just the tip of an Iceberg. One need to build an entire system to capture different kind of photos. I would like to quote a Camera Shopkeeper here "A DSLR is like a pit which you need to fill everynow and then".Originally posted by Technocrat View PostIsnt buying a DSLR just the tip of an Iceberg

@Avin: Stay away from the Nikon P series superzooms. No offence to any of the resident nikonians, but the same spec'd cams from a different manufacturer perfoms much better.
With regards to the budgets, you also need to decide what kind of use is the camera going to be put through. For example for the 15K budget cam you get cam from Canon that will have stuff like a full manual mode etc, but it will be comparatively bulky in nature. Other the other hand you could get yourself something a sleek Sony T-77, that too has decent pic quality and quite a few modes to play around, and the best feature is it can fit into your pocket like any other mobile phone would.
So you need to consider what kind you use, what kind of photography is expected out of the cam at their respective budgets too.
With regards to getting a dslr at the 25K budget, sure you can get maybe something like a 1000D for about 27K. But do remember you will not have the versatality of maybe a superzoom camera. You have just the 18-55 kit lens, which would suffice for most shots, but at a later time you will need a slightly longer ranged telephoto lens like the 55-250 So if the cam that you intend on buying with the 25K budget is going to get futher investments in the future then do go for an dslr. Else stick to the bridge cameras category. IMHO
