The 450D is a very nice camera in this price bracket. I think its the market leader in its category too...

Get it with the 18-55 IS lens but, please skip the 75-300 Its a useless piece of glass... better get the 55-250 IS... similar price but much better optically and IS too..

if you already have the camera in your hands, there is no need of any duty paying - go out and click some

if not, then how is it arriving - is someone carrying it?? if yes, ask them to take a few snaps and have them on the card. as such, it becomes a used camera for personal use, not commercial and no duty as far as i know.

If you are shipping it by some website service, then I am not sure what the procedure would be but I think it should not be any trouble, as the parcel/courier will come directly.

Yeah thats what i was thinking too....but the thing with this is that the package is a deal and the 75-300 is coming for way cheaper than what its real price is.....which is what made me give it a shot....now i am jus thinking ill get the cam/w kit lens and then buy the IS telephoto lens later on. Coz i am sure the 75-300 without image stabilization is definitely not for me as this is my first experience with a dslr.. another thought.... how would it be if i got the body seperately and then invest in a set of good lens... i was thinking of getting a new telephoto and a used kit lens coz lots of ppl sell their kit lens to get better ones... so how about this??

              • the King Nikon has been announced, the 24 Megapixel D3x

seems to use a derivative of the Sony A900 sensor, but the nikon processing pipeline and all seem to have made it better at higher ISOs than Sony JPG output suggests. RAW comparisons might come later and might show the real difference between the nikon and the sony, but seems like the Nikon has the Sony beat because of the optimisations and the improvements to the sensor.

the D3x is not a match for the high ISO performance of the D3/D700, but for absolute resolution it is the king.(li,ited to 1600 ISO in normal mode, compared to the 6400 of the D3/D700) some of the details are simply killer. Though the 1Ds3 also has very similar levels of studio details *low iso well lit work*

the price seems to have shocked the world because nikon has never before debuted a camera at this price point $8k US. but with the goner US$ compared to the yen, i guess it was inevitable.

The ISO 3200 shot is damm impressive, keeping in mind that it is capturing 24+MPs.

My God! That's some achievement, seriously! Very very useable image even at ISO 3200 - can't even imagine the HUGE possibilities.. Damn! Why does these things cost a fortune..

the 3200 shots are impressive no doubt, but take a look at the images the camera is made to take.
as a studio camera, it will work at ISO 100 most of the time, with strobes and all
at that, the detail that is captured is beyond awesome. take a look at the in focus areas of the ISO 100 shot of the fabric. each weave is visible.

                      • Well I posted that link just to tell you that the high ISO performance is also very good. I know it is meant for studio and landscape shots.

Buddy, I am not sure about others but I had got my lenses from gray market and they are working like a charm, no problems at all. Most of my friends get their stuff from the gray market, and they do not generally have any kind of problems.

                                Canon EF-S 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 IS = Rs. 8500 to 9000
                                Canon EF-S 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 = Around 4000

The first lens is with image stabilization and the optics are very much improved than the second lens. The second lens is without IS.

Go for IS version which is a very good lens and value for money.
