  • The D60, like the D40X it replaces offers a real performance boost (both in resolution and shooting speed) and the refinements to the user interface, the addition of D-Lighting, the excellent dynamic range and the new kit lens and dust reduction system make an excellent camera just that little bit better. The new Expeed processing reduces the visibility of chroma noise at higher ISO settings (and allows the D60 to offer a few new tricks) but the difference in output is subtle to say the least; it's still bright, vivid and 'consumer friendly' (though purists may find it a little over-saturated by default).

Don't the additions mentioned above the D40 make the D60 a better choice? I'm not sure about the difference in price, I guess it would depend on that since it has been mentioned that the changes are subtle at best.

Also, would you advise buying a camera from Dubai? Would it work out cheaper and more importantly would the warranty cover extend to India?
If not, then would it be wise to pick up one from the grey market in Mumbai?

better not buy the camera from gray market as you wont be getting any warranty and legals documents (cash memo and etc.)
there is not a big difference between the prices of D60 and D40 ..afaik D40 cost 24k and D60 cost about 26-29k

The D40x isn't available at Croma, I still have to check other stores.

At the cost of being repetitive, is it worth paying 6k extra (according to Alpha prices) for the D60 considering the upgrades previously or would it be advisable to go for a D40x and use the balance cash for getting a new lens (whenever that may be).

If its only 6k go for it, the extra pixels will come handy while cropping.

@SP:- I know what you are gonna say, get the 50mm 1.8D for the extra 6K .

u know my nerve buddy ...
Obviously I wud recommend that anytime..

AFAIK the price of D40 is around 21k and D60 is 32k..

If the price diff is marginal then go for the latest one. BUT this doesn't means that u'll be able to get drastically better shot in D60 than D40. I tried a D60 and thing did not seem to be much different.

@bprags- wassup about the f1.8 AF-S plan buddy. Lemme know once u get it. Wan to give it a shot on D40.

The D40x has a 10MP sensor too, but i guess the D60 offers a better resolution so that should be helpful. I'm leaning towards the D60 right now because of the 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6G VR Nikkor Lens that comes bundled with it.

bdway the D60 retails for ~26K or wait was it 32..damn, it's Croma again tomorrow

                  • I am going to buy 2 DSLRs in the next few months. Budget about 60 K total. Was thinking of the 450D and D60. Are they within budget with stock 18-55 IS lenses. I have to buy 2 cams so kindly do not advice me to invest the entire sum on one.

                      • Go for Canon A590IS.I have started using it since yesterday and it has exceeded all of my expectations.Splendid camera for it's price. The optical image stabilizer really helps and for the moment let the pics do the talking. These pics are all taken in Manual mode with me fiddling with the exposure/shutter settings. And yeah it was first time with this camera so please excuse me if anything looks weird!!

                          MRP of the 450D : ~42k
                          MRP of the D60 : ~32k

I guess you should get both cameras for around 60k in the grey market.
