Carl Zeiss and Leica are way up there in a different segment. Not when it comes to consumer compact/superzoom P&S cameras. And the Sony Alpha DSLR series uses the Sony/Minolta Mount You can use Sony/Minolta/Zeiss lenses on this mount. The Minolta was one of the best systems in its day and was a serious competitor to Canikon before Sony took over.

I'm curious, where do you get your info from?

          • price of Lumix FZ28

            hey guys,
I just called the panasonic showrooms all over India (chennai, bangalore, mumbai, delhi, gurgaon, pune) to find out the price for Panasonic Lumix DMC FZ28.
The price ranges from 23,000 INR (Pune) to 29,990 INR (Chennai) inclusive of taxes.
Now I am confused as some of you guys have bought it for 16,000 INR approx.
            Is it from grey market?

I need to buy this cam by this sunday. any help will be very kindfull of you guys.

            Thanks in advance.

thanks for the quick reply man

                I have few more queries:
                1) what are the cons of buying such cameras from the grey market?
                2) will I get all the accessories which come in the package from the showrooms?
                3) I just checked the online prices, they are in quoting near to 18000 INR for Lumix FZ28 (indiatimes & e-bay), are they allowed to sell grey items online?
                4) If I consider to buy from the showroom then there are two more cameras in the choice list (considering the cost, MPixels and Zoom):- Olympus Sp-565UZ (20000 INR); Olympus Sp-590UZ (25995 INR)...all prices are from Bangalore showrooms.
                5) I am going to Germany on coming sunday (and thats why I need it before sunday), will it be benificial to buy the camera from duty-free (Indiaan airport or German airport) or from Germany itself?

In the reviews the Olympus cameras are good but I didn't found any comparison between these 3.

Now again i am confused as for me 26K is lot of money. I am not going to buy another camera for atleast next 7-9 years.

SO guys need your help again and now more intensly.

sorry for a big post but I wanted to clear the doubts.

                Thanking you in advance.

1)The biggest disadvantage of buying from grey market is Product/Seller reliability in terms of warranty/support issues, it would be better if you know the seller personally or through someone.

                  2) Yes, you will get all the accessories in the package from grey market, check online for the package contents.

3)No idea, but i know some sites do indulge in grey.

4)Lumix FZ-28 is way better compared to 565UZ, 590UZ is a different league altogether (Costlier), i chose my FZ28 after comparing 565UZ, FZ28 and SonyH10. If you can afford to spend 21k(grey) go for Canon SX10IS with your eyes closed.

                  5) Germany would be cheaper if you buy bill, but than comes question of international warranty.

So the Verdict IMO should be FZ-28 grey from a reliable source/seller.

                      1) now this is big problem for me as I do not belong to bangalore, I am from UP and in next 1-1.5 year I will jump-off .........don't know where.
But if I buy it from here and then it goes kaput after 1 year when I am somewhere in Northern part of the country, then sending it for repair will be a lot costlier.......

                      2) Ok

                      4) ya! I know that Lumix FZ28 is far better then others, that's why I kept it the only choice. But know the case is different if I have to buy it from showroom then I have to think to extend my budget somehow upto 25-26k and then I will be able to buy 590UZ or maybe the Cannon.......

                      5) Olympus provides international warranty, nikon do not.......no idea about panasonic and cannon......will try to find out......

Can anyone suggest a local dealer for Lumix FZ28 (grey ) near HAL, Bangalore?

Otherwise I guess I will extend my budget to buy Olympus 590UZ

If you are not too sure about greymarket, go for Canon SX10IS, last i checked its was 24500rs bill, performance is FZ28 like (canon has better tele-sharpness+hot-shoe adapter) only thing missing is RAW mode (which i use alot in FZ28) .

P.S. - If you can wait for a month post-budget prices will be revised (billing of-course).
