  • @Satan: Third party lenses are always cheaper than the OEM ones, because of many factors, couple of which are:

    1. the glass used within;
    2. the image quality differs between the two. However, it is not so much as to make out for our kind of usage! For high-end professional use, it might be a BIG deciding factor.

      • @Satan: Absolutely. The Sigma macro lens is a very good piece of glass. You can go for the 1000D and the Sigma lens, with your eyes closed.

        As for the kind of budget that you have now suggested (Rs.35,000/-), I would ask you to find out if the 450D is available or not for that price range, or better yet, the EOS 500D!

            thank you aryan

            i went through the net for the difference between a 450 D and a 1000D...

            a canon 450D has the below points that a 1000D doesnt have

            1) spot metering
            2)larger screen
            3)2 extra mega pixels
            4)2 extra focusing points
            5)IR remote

            1)i read that spot metering helps in getting light to an area where its background is brighter...the subject is facing backwards to the light source hence the dark colour on the subjects front where the camera is focused.spot metering sheds light to that darker area....i do think this is important feature

            2)i really dont care about the screen...i mean if its big or small

            3)mega pixels are not everything right...so i guess extra 2 mp doesnt make much of a difference...except maybe bigger size photos or clearer detail in RAW format (plz correct me if am wrong)

            4)this is a little confusing to me...i do a lot of action shot...i am riding pillion on a bike and i see something, i immediately take out the cam and shoot even when the bike is doing 80 to 100kmph speeds...so are these two extra focus points helpful in getting a better image clarity while on the move???

            5)no need for IR remote for me

            the query now is (along with the above queries) ,should i get a 1000D and sigma macro lens totally costing 35k or should i just get a 450D for 35k and save up and get a macro lens cause 450 D is really worth for the features i mentioned above...i just need a cam for macro,action and landscape...

                In my opinion, 450D is absolutely worth the performance over 1000D, regarding your points;
                spot metering is a definite advantage when you are in light sensitive areas, if you are not into PP than spot metering is an absolute-must.
                mega-pixels do matter even if its a difference of 2mpx.
                Two more important features of 450d over 1000d include 9-point AF instead of a 7-point which helps alot in tighter macros and burst mode difference of .5 fps which isn't much but will help you for those swift pans.

                I would definitely recommend a 450D since you only invest once in a body, lenses can be dealt as per convenience

                Hope this helped and let us know what you go for.

                        check out in ebay.in .They provide products in EMI,if purchased by ICICI credit cards.Also while purchasing do not forget to try out some free coupons(check in google for ebay coupons).It easily saves some 400-500 rs or may be more.

                            What are your primary needs for looking to get a telephoto lens? Are there any specific focal length/ lengths that you are looking to cover? I ask because, I was just curious regarding the kind of telephoto lens that you are looking for.

                            • i dont have any specific focal length needs...just want a telephoto as the 18-55 wants me to go closer to the subjects....

                              I'm looking for something that can help me both with street photography (candid shots from a distance, without allowing the person to know he's being clicked) and amateurish wildlife photography....

                              • @rubber stamp: Looking at your requirement, I would suggest you look at the Canon EF-S 18-200mm f3.5-f5.6 lens. It covers everything from wide angle (18mm) all the way to medium telephoto (200mm).

                                However, if you want to shoot wildlife, you would need something even longer, in the range of 400mm or thereabouts!
