However, since you are starting out with a 550D, I feel a 18-200mm lens would cover ALL the major focal length requirements that a photographer generally has. However, I have not used the Sigma 18-200mm, so, won't really be able to comment on that one.
Thanks sir for your valuable comment will check the lenses physically at the showroom and decide.

More than seeing them externally, do click a few photographs with the respective lenses, and do check for various things like critical focusing, vibrancy, CA, etc. and then decide.

Do let us know when you finally get your hands on the camera and lens. All the best Shabbarak.

      Thanks.

              • Me finally bought my first Canon Dslr 550d today , checked the sigma 18 -200 lense also but found it too heavy and the zooming action was not smooth, so settled for the kit supplied 18 - 55 lense.

                    • Hey guys,

My friend Shashi is planning to pick up a SLR. Enquired with some shops got different deals. Was looking either for Cannon 1000D or Nikon D3000. Least quote we got were 21,300 for cannon and 21,400rs for nikon.

Do u think this is the best price we could get or do i need to search for more?

                      • @Satish: Rs.21,300 for the 1000D is the norm. Here, in Delhi, it's priced at around Rs.21,500 or thereabouts. So, that price is absolutely right and justified. I am not sure about the Nikon D3000's pricing though, as I do not keep a tab on Nikon.

Also, if possible, do check out the 500/550D. Although, they are priced much higher than the 1000D, but they are better in a few respects than the 1000D. But, the EOS 1000D is a brilliant camera nonetheless. Like they say - "It's not about the equipment, it's all about the person behind it!"

thanks Dogg...picked up a Sony DSC-H55 though. Contenders were IXUS and Pan Lumix TZ7. But settled for Sony. IXUS did not go good with low lights and TZ3 was without manual controls

Any ways H55 has got manual controls, 10x zoom, 25-250 mm lens, F3.5-5.5, and other consumer stuff (incld. face detect, smile detect, eye blink detect, etc etc )..and a 14.1 MP CCD sensor. So quite a deal @ 11.4k i think
Quite satisfied at this price bracket....

EDIT: And it has got full HD too (1080i)

It is like asking which is the best bike company in India? Cant be answered... Sony, Nikon and Canon dominate here...their cameras are very good (and as is their marketing) But Panasonic Lumix are also catching up fast and the recent TZs are giving top3 good competetion. Fuji produces nice cameras as well...havent used mush of Fuji but i have a first hand experience with a frien's Fuji. It was not good, especially low light condition performance was a big let down

sorry for my previous stupid question. I am a noob when it comes to cameras. I just have the knowledge enough to just operate a camera. So i thought of enquiring about the camera brands as i have hear that right now the canon's cameras are very good.

I was just asking about fujifilm because their cameras were very low priced & i have read on the wikipedia that it is the biggest camera company in the world.
