  • Having read last recent posts, I am happy with my decision of not bringing a D-SLR camera and bought a NIKON L20 (cheap but effective) camera to begin with photography. Earlier, I regretted my decision, becuz i did'nt knew alot about cameras. But, the last few posts have made me happy with my decision.
    Thanks Guys.

I did'nt had\have knoweldge about the camera's, not even basics. I donot know what is EV?, what does a megapixel means,... stuffs. And at that time what i found was this one only and i wanted camera urgently, so setteled for Nikon L20. Still it serves more than a purpose for me, you can say that it has over-features than requrired by me. As i always shoot in AUTO mode.

@Abhichotu: There should be a "panorama" option in your digital camera. Just select that option, and everything else should be pretty easy to understand by looking at the LCD viewfinder, thereon!

Yes, I have tried this method before and now, after you said to use it. All I can see on the screen are some arrows pointing in 4 direstions and when i click the shoot button it just takes picture of opposite thing. No wideshot.

What do you want to use them for .. as in what is the max load you're going to put on it?

I was hence saying, one should get a cheap digital-camera at first and see where this "hobby" develops, from there.

If you are suggesting to purchase the 55-250 along with the 18-55mm, well, then that is again an extra 10k worth of investment over and above the 20-25k worth of investment in getting a D-SLR. Moreover, I am not so sure a newbie would find it too comfortable changing lenses frequently, to "zoom in" and "go wide", if you get my drift.
Points taken. My take on getting a DSLR directly is based on the assumption that the person has a liking for photography and is willing to take on that learning curve but I guess not everybody knows if he/she wants to pursue it seriously.

Sure .. haven't shared pictures on P&C, will figure out how to do it and try to share some this weekend.

                            • Am on the lookout for a point & shoot camera. Have a few question. My usage isnt going to be too frequent & I will be clicking pics on the following occassions

                              1. touring - planning on doing quite a bit of it
                              2. catching up with friends - Should be able to take good pictures when indoors with low lighting. Pics shouldnt be too white (dont know whats the technical term)
                              3. Occassional random pics - out in the garden etc

Am looking for something within 12k, would prefer if it is around the 10 mark. I dont want something too basic & elementary either and will be keeping it for the next few years.

The reviews of the Canon A1100IS are all very favourable. Are there any other options in the same price range ?

The Canon uses SD cards. How much do new memory cards cost ? What about other cameras ? IIANM, the Sony cameras use memory stick pro duo which are more expensive, right ?

Lastly, what is a good outlet to buy a camera from ? Is there a large price difference between retail outlets ? Want to buy with bill and warranty, no grey market.

                              Phew !

Yes the memory stick pro duo used by sony is costlier that SD card

I think G.K.Vale is the best in bangalore.
You could also check out jjmehta .com , Digital Camera , Digital SLR , Video Camera , Apple iPod , Sandisk Pendrive available all over India one of my friends bought from them online after checking the prices in Chroma, Adhishwar, Girijas etc. and their price was about 1000 bucks less than that of the retail outlets plus free shipping and bill and warranty, he received the camera within one week of order. So I guess they are good and they have nice offers too.
