Do u think this is the best price we could get or do i need to search for more?
that's exactly what i am looking for now...entery level DSLR.
in mumbai Canon 1000D with 18-55 lens is avilable for 22,500/-
and Nikon D3000 with 18-55 lens is available for 22,900/-.

I've decided to go for Canon 1000D going after the brand name here.

@Aryan -- i need to know with 18-55 lens what can i expect.

i have only this option with me as far lenses are concerned.

      • @NJ7: It is totally your call what 'system' you want to get into - Canon or Nikon. Both are equally good. I don't know whether you've used any particular manufacturer's cameras in the past or not.

Canon and Nikon, both, have some amazing D-SLRs and lenses in their line-up. I would suggest you try out both the D3000 and the 1000D in your hands, and then choose wisely as per your ease-of-use and ergonomics, etc. Image Quality (IQ) is more or less for both the models, so does the kit lens (which I believe is the "18-55mm").

But, please remember that once you get into a 'system' (either Canon or Nikon) and eventually build up your lens collection, it would be hard (almost impossible) to switch brands. Just use both the brands and see what suits you better.

All the best and keep us informed.

i've never used a nikon or canon came before..so as you said, i'm gonna get into a 'system'...as far as brand is concerned, i don't have any kind of biasing to any of these two brands..so..i'm in a dilemma..

i tried both the cams in my hand. and to make matters worse i felt both of them easy to use..

i read some of the comparo between the two cams, and they mention live view missing in 3000d,11 point AF in 3000d and all..as it is big decision(22k is a big deal..!!)i don't wanna do something and repent about it later..

so whatever u professionals and more experienced guys say, i'm ready to do...

Glad to know that you got into the Canon family and got yourself a brand new 1000D. It is a good camera, no doubt and I sure hope we get to see some sample shots from your 1000D in the 'Photography & Critique' thread soon.

                Enjoy.

With Canon 2-year warranty, it would cost you somewhere between Rs.37-39k or thereabouts. However, I would suggest you increase your budget and get either thee 500 or the 550D.

                        • The D3100 is priced above the D5000, so should be in the range of 36-37k.

                          • @Nilay: As far as brands are concerned, it is totally subjective. If you want Nikon, get one, if you wan to get into Canon, get into it. It is as simple as that, really. As for the "noise issue" that you have talked about, I would like to know what exactly do you mean? If you mean, that noise was an issue upwards of something like ISO 1600, then, it is but natural!

And the D3100 should cost you somewhere in the range of 34k-37k with the 18-55mm Nikkor kit lens.

As Aryan said you wont go wrong with either of the brands, as for noise issues, there are plenty of variables, what ISO did u shoot? did u under expose, show us the image, by the way the D60 is a very old camera and uses a CCD sensor, the D3100 uses the latest CMOS sensor and from what ever samples I have seen, it is pretty good and also it auto focuses during video shooting too.

You can also have a look at the canon 60D which was recently launched, though it will cost a lot more than the D3100.

Noise level i faced at iso800 when i was trying to capture a bird flying in the sky. So i talked with some photographer and they said that the nikon (Particularly D60) has some noise issue.........after all i am not a expert photographer & i am also thinking to buy entry level Dslr.
