Congrats Nikhil ! ...... Nice buy ....... I would be soon buying Panasonic Lumix DMC-TZ10 (ZS7) !Originally posted by NikhilB View PostBought my first SLR, a Canon 1000D (with 18-55 IS lens) yesterday...
I found using an SLR a very "humbling" experience... Can't wait to learn photography all over again...

Interesting development! Just ordered Panny Lumix LX3 from JJ Mehta. Delivery tomorrow, waiting eagerly to lay my hands on it. Price including courier 19145, a special price. Bought it just for its 24 mm wide angle and pocket-ablity.Originally posted by ravi@17bhp View PostI am torn between Powershot G12 and a DSLR. I know a DSLR gives quality in low light than a Powershot G12, but I am bowled out by the size, handling, and great picture quality of the G12. Somehow, I feel a G12 is better to lug around with than a heavy DSLR + lenses. I am unable to decide.

Needed a cam for clicking snaps while touring, got myself a canon ixus 200 is for 9800/-.
I'd had went to check the prices of canon ixus 120/110 which was recommended by a fellow xbhpian, I got a good deal for the ixus 200 so I took it. Happy with the purchase.
Now need to develop *some* photography skills before this weekend

Help Required in choosing a DSLR
Hey Guys,
This is my first posting here and have been following up a lot of discussions for the past 2 days and have finally decided to place some querries. I really appreciate xBhp Mods for having started this thread.
I believe there are many experienced photographers here who must have handled different cameras especially Nikons and Canon DSLRs. I would be gald if you guys could guide me in choosing a better DSLR between Nikon 3100 and Canon 1000D or perhaps another model within the price range of Rs.33,000 /- inclusive VR Kits, 18-55mm lenses.
Would be glad if the advantages and disadvantages are pointed out. I have already check out the features and specifications of both the cams. However, a review from the experienced would be appreciated

@Devilboy
I had the same query some time back. Firstly, look at some sites which give you buying guides like this or this.
Secondly, you cannot go wrong with either camera. There are some minor differences between them which you can read reviews and find out. In the end, you just need to see if you would mind paying extra for the D3100 over the 1000D.
PS: I used dpreview.com to check out revews. Although a bit on the technical side, they are very comprehensive. Also, digital-slr-guide.com has reviews in very simple language.
Happy researching!!!I like 'em Naked

I was looking for camera below 10 K that will give me descent pictures

The camera cost around 18 k here in India while i got it for 9 k in US. Specifications: 14 MP , 26 x Optical zoom , FUll HD video recording .
Clicked some pictures and videos. I am impressed with the quality of the video and battery life . Pictures are also descent. Pretty much good value for the money i paid . Here are few clickz i took

go for the 3100,it's wayy more advanced than the eos 1000d and the eos 1000d come with a non stabilised lens and also lacks video rec(some might not need it)... but is in the 25k mark and u can also, under the d3100's budget get a 1000d+ 18-135 IS lens for about 15k (u can also sell the standard kit lens) will add upto arnd the same as the 3100.
features wise,u'll loose the new tech in the d3100 over the 1000d,the starndard kit lens with the nikon is vr(image stabilised lens) and is plentiful for a beginner.also the 1000d lacks spot metering (not an issue,u can zoom in the center weighted mode to get the metering right ).The 3100 also packs some good hd vid features and is faster that the 1000d as well..
so the choice is urs... and did i mention u got beter/cheaper range of lenses for the nikon's.....RED BULL did'nt give me WINGS, my BIKE did !!
