Let me ask my cousin who is a lawyer if we can proceed in it comfortably

I am not a Lawyer, but I wonder if RTI is what we can file here for. The concern is that we should ask the Manufacturer to supply us with spares for discontinued bikes (considering the Threshold of time factor too), or give us a reason why are the parts not available.
all cheers

@Shivansu - DCS is more than perfectly right here about RTI.
RTI is applicable only for Govt bodies & they WERE supposed to answer in 30 days & now days they do not care about fine & take their own sweet time to answer. I being a member of rti.org, can help, only if you're fighting with govt bodies.
Being a member of local consumer association, I can vouch that, you can always file a case against YMI as a good consumer. But again, that holds good only if YMI supplies spurious parts or defective goods. Hope this is clear.Skill is what keeps you on a Motorcycle

^^ where can we find the ruling that states all vehicle manufacturers are stipulated to produce/stock/sell spare parts for a particular model for atleast 7 years or 10 years after its discontinuation from the market?? Anyone??

Yes Argee you are right, RTI applies for Govt. and Semi Govt. Bodies.
I spoke to my cousin who is a lawyer, he is saying to send a Letter asking for the explanation as per why these spares are not available handy with the Yamaha Dealers. The letter should be registered post and the acknowledgment card should be sent along with this letter.
In the letter after writing your query, do mention the time frame of the reply from the company, after which we would be sending legal notice.

Seeing this thread only now.
Not meaning to be a nay-sayer or a pessimist but I am unsure how far arm-twisiting would work here. If there was money to be made in manufacturing and selling spares, YMI would have done it anyways.
Assuming enthusiasts do win the case, YMI will supply crappy parts just to comply with the judgement. Atleast, this is how I view the entire situation.
RX series whether for good or bad is a very robust series of motorcycles. The unfortunate fallout of this is, it runs on any sort of crude jugaad, thereby reducing demand for genuine spares. So unless we have a critical mass of consumers who are able and willing to pay 7-8k for new cylinder kit, I am afraid things won't change for the better. That applies to any spare part for that matter.
I think working with the company rather than against them is a less tiresome and more fruitful approach. If the enthusiats can talk to YMI maybe through a credible/connected source like an auto mag or officially from xbhp itself may yield results.
15 Years is indeed the period till which manufacturer is obliged to supply spares.A lone amateur built the ark. A large group of professionals built the Titanic...

Was speaking to one of our association's executive member today regarding this & their opinion was that a court case against YMI is like a "thread tied to a mountain & pulling it". No one can say the outcome & this will be one of those least interested case & by the time the verdict comes out...I leave it to you to guess. Also its hard to find RX fans these days; you still have RE fans as the motorcycle is still in production & somehow they're managing on the edge of survival. RX is a legend that is already in sunset; even the new youngsters will be happy to hear the rev of RX, but will prefer one of the modern 4 strokes. So IMO, case is worth trying only if someone is idle & can take this as main job.
@Shivansu - The letter that you're saying is called RPAD & the reply generally is solicited within 10 days. Trust me, YMI will take atleast a month to reply; after that the case proceeds to consumer court when you file the actual case, if YMI's response is unsatisfactory.
Here's the link that you may want to try after writing to YMI - :: Ministry of Consumer Affairs, Food&Public Distribution :: Governmant of IndiaSkill is what keeps you on a Motorcycle

@nitin - i understand your point, but its also about customer service included. IF yamaha can send their engineer quickly when a customer logs a complaint regarding a R15, then why are they neglecting the customers who still bought the last of the RXs that they sold???
I dont mind working with the company on this, but on all accounts all i have gotten are no, no way, no we dont make those anymore, you cant find them any where etc etc etc...
I do intend starting this with a formal email to the company asking for parts regarding my 5 speed RXZ, and await a reply, and then only initiate proceedings further.
What i do need, is the specific ruling which states that they will have to provide parts till 7-10 or 15 years, because i would like to state that in my email to them.
It would be great if we could send a email as a group, because then they would know that we are serious about this.

Don't do that JD; instead write an RPAD using registered post; that's the formal (threaten) way to initiate things.Originally posted by jd666 View PostI do intend starting this with a formal email to the company asking for parts regarding my 5 speed RXZ, and await a reply, and then only initiate proceedings further.
Yes, but how're you planning to get our signatures?Originally posted by jd666 View PostIt would be great if we could send a email as a group, because then they would know that we are serious about this.Skill is what keeps you on a Motorcycle

I'm not too sure how that is going to work out.Originally posted by jd666 View Postby having a collective list of names at the bottom of the email, and have everyone copied on the mail. So yamaha has the list of emails that are the interested party.
I think aargee had a better point on that. It would be more effective to send them a registered post with signatures. I mean, you could probably collect people's signatures at the next G2G. There's a chance that they could ignore the email deliberately, or due to a cluttered inbox, but there is no way they can ignore a registered post. Besides, you will have acknowledgement that they've received the mail.-------------------

are creating a nuisance by riding recklessly on the roads, PLEASE share the same with
us on the thread above. Appreciate it!
