    How to clean K&n Air Filters

    Hey guys.,

    DIY FOR How To clean K&N Air filters

    K&n Air-filters doesn't need to be replaced but proper interval we need to clean the air filters and we use to clean the air filters from k&n dealers but it is not advisable.

    Always better to purchase K&N Cleaning kit and do it by ourselves .
    Cleaning should be done in the interval of 5000km.

    These instruction is applicable for all the types of k&N air filters.

    Step 1:     Remove the Filter from your Bike



    Step 2    :This is how it looks Dirty



    Step 3: k&N Cleaning Kit





    Step 4:     Use cleaning spray to remove the Dirt and leave it to dry for 20min.



    Step 5: Use normal water to clean the Filter and if the dirt not removed completely Repeat the step 4.



    Step 6: Let it dry for 30 min and this is how it looks after cleaning



    Step 7: Use k&N oil to apply gently all over the filter in a same direction.





    Flip the Filter and do the same process and look for any places if the oil not present, just patch up.



    This is how it looks after applied the oil.. That's it K&N is ready to roar for another 5000km

      Nice DIY. Just wanted to point out 2 important things-

      "Step 4: Use cleaning spray to remove the Dirt and leave it to dry for 20min."

      As per the manual in the K&N cleaning kit, we should wash the filter before the cleaning spray dries on it. So after spraying, one should wash the filter with water before sprayed liquid(degreaser) dries.

      "Step 6: Let it dry for 30 min and this is how it looks after cleaning "
      This is a very important step and even after drying the filter for 20-30 mins, one has to make sure that there's no excess oil/dripping oil on the filter. The excess oil tends to clog the throttle body and the body will need frequent cleaning

          i was also thinking for that. just have a quick question as company says it requires 50k before cleaning see K&N High Performance Lifetime Aftermarket Air Filters - Automotive and Motorcycle Air Filters
          and you are cleaning too early at least 10k can be done in Indian environment.

          also can you please tell me where to buy that kit and how much.

                  i have seen on K&N site that we need to change after 50k miles (not kms),still in Indian environment we can manage at least 10k kms. so why are you cleaning that much early. kit is also expensive. is there any feelings coming from bike's response? my bike is good and i have done 6k on it.

                  just want to know where from you bought the kit, i am also thinking for that.

                    Thanks bro, K&N cleaning Kit is common and we can use for all the models will cost around 950rs.

                    Thanks bro, and regarding the cleaning our indian roads and dust it is mandatory that we need to clean around 6k so that will get better and constant performance.

                    No lag in the performance but when remove the filter after 6k it looks Dirty and also k&n dealer suggest we can clean the filter around 5k and bought the cleaning kit from k&n dealer.
