    Re: Royal Enfield Tractor. A review.

    I rode a RE 500 with the CI engine in 2007 to ladakh. The bike had enough torque to climb a tree [emoji4], but it had a point system. They thing did sound amazing, had a lot of torque. Cons was that nuts had to tightened everyday. Had to tighten the chain a couple of times. Otherwise was fine. Didn't ride a bullet till 2012 or 2013. The bikes have really improved. The only problem is when you compare them to Japanese or Indian bike. One of my friends just bought a new classic 500. He summed up his decision that I know I will have to put in time and effort to maintain the bike but RE is what I like and RE is what I bought [emoji106]

    Go ahead and scratch the itch. The vibrations will help a lot.

    This has to be the best of all the sarcastic articles I have read about the Enfields. Each line just tickles the biker in me to a new extent.

    Forty6, great job buddy!!

    Went through all the posted comments and opinions. Someone worded it perfectly about Enfield, you can love it or hate it but simply hard to ignore it!!
    I ride a FZ, a Yamaha marvel for Indian roads, and I am fully satisfied by the way it rides, it looks and performs.
    But still there is an itch...I am still looking forward to have a classic 350 in my garage

    Regards,
    NK

    Thanks for the thoughful replies friends.... I was afraid of getting a barrage of heated arguments on my question.

    But the replies have made me really curious about REs. My impression of REs was based on old experiences on Machismo and RE classic, now I think it is time to go to the showroom and try out the newer versions as well (or if I am able to arrange for one from a friend, go on a long weekend drive )

    Cheers!!!

    The heavy weight and sheer unpredictibity would make RE quite unsuitable for such hill and offroad experience. Only mitigating factor on uphill rides would be its high torque but still, that excess weight would make it quite a task to go uphill. Add to it unavailablity of tubeless tires + high vibrations. So, my question is why is RE so popular when it comes to Leh-Laddakh trips?
    It's the low end torque which is the biggest boon in that terrain. 350 Enfield(UCE) spilling up 27nm at just 4K rpm when most yahams and Hondas idle at 1500~2000 rpm or whatever and 500 Enfield 42nm at 4K rpm. So it's the minimal twist of throttle to get that torque kicking which it is essential on those terrain which makes it preferrable bike for Leh Ladakh apart from (I agree) mouth to mouth publicity, simplicity of machine etc..

    I am riding a 1.5 year old Bullet Electra 350. earlier i was riding a Zma(what a Solid bike). yes even to date RE bikes have many niggles but even after knowing it i have gone ahead & bought a RE. Why, because it delivers a unique ride experiance & feel which others lack.. What RE actually needs is to make good quality Motorcycles & increase Crusing abilty of all its models.

    Re: Royal Enfield Tractor. A review.

    On my way to office in the morning, I felt pretty hungry so stopped by some road side stalls. In one stall they had Vadapav while the other guy was selling Idli-meduvada and sambhar on his cycle.

    Now Vadapav is a superb package. You have that hot luscious batata (potato) vada between those soft Pav's and also you can add Thikka or Meetha chutney to suit your taste. It is also a clean package. You can have it even in a crowded Mumbai local train, without the fear of soiling your shirt. There is a reason why Vadapav is the ultimate street food of Mumbai. It is clean, efficient and tasty. The most practical choice then.

    But on the other hand I have the Idli-Sambhar on a plastic plate tempting me. It is the opposite of almost everything the Vadapav stands for, well may be except the tasty part. It is a mess to eat it, especially while you are in a hurry. You have Sambhar dripping all over you and on your shirt. Also you need to balance the plastic plate on one hand, and eat with the other, while also licking up the concoction of sambhar and coconut chutney that is slowly dripping through your hands creeping towards your shirt sleeves. BUT, when that soft moist Idli, soaked in sambhar, just melts in your mouth, the feeling is almost HEAVENLY.

    Now Vadapav fans will swear by Vadapav's as being greatest thing in Mumbai. They will tell you that everything else is just crap. They will tell you that this is the most practical food choice, when you are living life on the fast lane.

    Idli-sambhar fans will swear by Idli-Sambhar as being the greatest gift of Madrasi's to India. They will tell you that everything else is just crap. They will tell you that unless you have sambhar stain on your VanHuesen shirt, you are not a connoisseur of authentic Indian food.

    So, what should I do? What will I eat? Well, I'm gonna have both of them!! I love good food, and I'm hungry, so I will have one plate of Vadapav and one plate Idli-sambhar, please!!!

    Heck, if my finance permits, I would like to have McDonald's and Pizza's or Sushi for the rest of my life, but I don't think I have the moolah. Such is life of an avg. Indian guy!!

    So I would continue to swear by Vadapav's and Idli-sambhar!!!

    PS. If you are wondering what is VadaPav and idli-sambhar doing on xBHP, then:
    Vadapav = Pulsar's, Dukes, etc
    Idli-Sambhar= Royal Enfield's
    McDonald's= Harley's
    Pizza = Ducati's, Guzzi's etc
    Sushi = Jap exotics

    So ALL I gotta say to Fanboy's bashing and swearing to each other is JUST SHUT UP AND RIDE IT.

    The answer is advertisement. It has nothing to do with the touring character(cough...bullshit....cough) of enfield. People do ladakh trips on freaking auto scoots. But they dont revel in their selfproclaimed glory on forums.

    Ease of maintenance. Simple design. FI/other new carb systems aren't well known inside out by mechs.

    The best part was that it kept on shedding something or the other, all unnecessary items. All mostly chrome. All being let loose by the vibration and then dropping off one by one like Pandva's last journey, until what remained was the bare essentials that were needed to make it work. You might me thinking what is so good about it, well Lamborghini charges a lot of premium for its Superleggera, Porsche for its GT series, on RE, it's for free.
    Ha ha! Reminds me of one of those rare rides with some RE friends a couple of years back when one of the REs in the front ejected its k&n air filter which flew into the air and just missed my lid had I not ducked. There have been innumerable incidents which I have experienced with RE bikers, each of them validating what a crappy bike this is.

    Oh. That. Well I can take only a bit of it. The rest, and most, of it goes to the Bullet fans.
