  • An intro with a question!

    Hey freinds!

First of all, let me state it very clearly that am not here because i drive any bike, in fact i am super SCARED to even ride as a passenger!

I think all or almost all of you guys who proudly confess their love for their bikes must have gone through at least 1 accident if not more. I would like to hear your opinion as to why you guys still ride the machine when there are safer options like car available?

We can have endless discussion on this topic, but for now:

Life is not a journey to the grave with intentions of arriving safely in a pretty well-preserved body, but rather to skid in broadside, thoroughly used up, totally worn out and loudly proclaiming ... WOW! What a ride

Thread approved and the topic moved.

Hard Torque is the editorial section of xBhp where selected members pen down what they think about a particular issue related to bikes or biking.

Don't take it in an offensive manner, but the question seems like, Going out of your home involves many risks like being killed by a terrorists, meeting with an accident, falling sick, etc...then why do we still go out of our homes?

Hehe...back to the topic...leaving safety aside, 2 wheelers have a lot of advantages too..They are affordable for many who cant buy a car, they are fuel efficient, light and easy to maneuver in bad traffic...so people may not quit riding bikes just coz it is dangerous..In a way even cars are not 100% accident proof..that doesn't mean people will quit driving

        hello varuna.
        Welcome to XBHP :P

how better can a car be safe when people are dying even because of car accidents also.

Sitting in a box with four wheels under can never give you the immense feeling of how a Dog feels by sticking his face out from ur car window.

Proper riding sense and proper gear will never let you down at any point in your driving life.

next time take a chance and sit as a pillion with any of ur good riding friend and feel the euphoria.
The rising petrol prices burn your pocket not your riding soul!

Not so long ago I had written a small analogy on it to a friend.

Like someone said, Driving moves your body... riding moves your soul!
To add to it, both of them can take your soul as well! but riding makes it more lively (pardon the irony) but driving makes you feel like a sitting duck in a cage!

              Driving a Car = fun
Riding the bike is living the fun! its more participative..

If you are below 18, your answer ends here..

              Else,
Would you say that watching a porn flick on a giant screen is more fun that actually doing it?

So what exactly is the fun in driving a car to lonavala where you cant\wont experience the weather out and its like in a comfort of a slush seat, with 'climate control' and all that jazz... beats me everytime!
Then again driving extreme is fun where the drive is NOT just about the view... like say a cross country trip on the car! but that my friend is perhaps as risky as a bike too!

It's all about passion ;let me tell you something the first time i sat on a driving(bike's)seat was when i was on 6th grade it was my elder brothers friends bike he parked it out went in to meet my bro when he came out he saw me sitting on the parked vehicle sitting and driving and honking(with mouth dddddddddddrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr pomp pomp)atonce he asked me interested in taking her a ride i nodded my head with great joy with a samll hope that he may give me a ride he was so kind hearted that he threw the keys to me it was a kb100 kick started it tried to pull the side stand but couldnt i wasnt tall enough to do it slid my ass a little to one side balanced with toe took it of with great effort and pressed the clutch shiva(MY bro's friend)seeing this was amazed that how did i knew all i said him i have seen him doing so then he asked me what next i did the gear thing right he asked me to release clutch slowly and accelerate mildly there i was on a solo ride even while typing this tears flow down my cheeks you ought to be a biker by heart to feel what i say man its all passion to know why people ride inspite of accidents is all their passion and love to their machines so you got to have that passion to understand it also my friend riding a car doesnt mean that you are 100% safe there are people who lost life on car accidents also so i will never accept that bikes are not safe with proper riding gears they are more safe than riding plainly on a car' And satyan bro well said explaination by you

For me its pure practicality. Try driving from Hebbal to Whitefield/EC or anywhere else on ORR during peak hours and you will realise two-wheels are a boon Car is half as efficient compared to a bike; it takes double the time and double the money.

Well, here are few quotes from me

Some people prefer to be safe
                    Others prefer to ride

                    4 wheels move the body
                    2 wheels move the soul.

                    Buddy
Here is an advice from my side.
                    Go get a 0 BHP machine(aka cycle)
                    then master it.
then get an electric 2 wheeler(one with top speed of 25 km/hr)
                    then master it.
then get a 100 cc bike
                    then master it.
                    then get your dream bike
                    and well, live your dream.

PS you dont need to own all these scooters/bikes
You may borrow them from your friends.

                        Welcome to the jungle.

                        To every man, his own.

We ride bikes because we enjoy them. We do understand that riding on a bike is riskier than driving in a car, but we take the required precautions (riding gear), & are sensible riders.
Bikes are sometimes more practical options (eg: in places where traffic is a problem, narrow stretches etc).

There is a lot of difference between a car & a bike. You are more connected to your surroundings, when on a bike & enjoy it more.

I personally had been driving to work for the last 2 weeks, & when today I came on my bike, the happiness that it brought to me was priceless.

+1. But a car hardly takes me 5 more mins in peak traffic. The KR Puram Railway Station stretch is anyway a pain in the ass.

The pleasure is when your rear wheel slides, and you bring it back; and when the front wheel lifts, you take your time bringing it back.

For me the real reason for wanting to ride a bike is the show called "Street Hawk" on DD when I am in 2nd or 3rd STD... I used to dream of flying the bike off the ramp just like in the show.

Thats the begining of it and after I started riding actually, after I finished my 10th STD I really understood what riding is. To say simply "RIDING MOVES YOUR HEART" its like the bike becomes the part of our body once u turn the ignition and both moving in unison can be as good as as orgasm!

Now riding is so planted in my head that I always tell to friends & family that I would prefer a bike of Rs.10,00,000 but never a car of 2,00,000.

If you are really looking for an answer just go ahead and start riding, untill which you can never 'really' understand what the people here are telling!
