Bike saves me only about 5-10 mins, coz I don't ride aggressively in between the traffic. The R15 being bulkier than most other bikes doesn't help either

The pleasure is when your rear wheel slides, and you bring it back; and when the front wheel lifts, you take your time bringing it back.

Learning to drive is like learning to crawl, stand , walk, and eventually running when we were babies. You have to go through the phases with caution with never say die attitude. If you were afraid to walk you would still be crawling .So enter into the adventure of learning to drive a TWO WHEELER,and it will open up a new world to you.

Its more practical. How much ever u admire Top gear or any other car show,u still like remembering the good old days when yo brother/friend/father had taken u out on a ride. Y would any like to be claustrophobic???????

On a different note, When ever u feel like u can just stand upon the saddle and Fart as loud as u can.If u do the same in a car(with passengers in it) u are very likely to be killed.
To know the sheer joy of riding take yo friend's bike go out on a rainy or a windy day(of course with the safety gears) early in the morning and u will get the answers

For me, driving a car is a strenuous task.. tat too driving a car at peak hours in the CHENNAI city traffic (Any metros for that matter)... my god, can drain ur energy... i feel cramped whenever i sit inside a car, feels like i am caged. when i ride a bike i feel as if i am free bird... u can experience Total freedom when u ride a bike.

Imagine, Riding a bike on a cloudy day, on an empty road the cool breeze that brushes ur face... gives u a rejuvenated feeling, tat a car can never give... Apart frm that, cars sometimes cause a problem due to the unavailability of parking space. u either have to park on the road, or in a narrow street (to go to a shop) with the fear that it may anytime be towed away by the traffic police... (atleast for me) Bikes can be parked almost anywhere...

I totally agree with your observation..I am in Chennai since 1962 and had seen its traffic and values deteriorate. Now it is a nightmare to drive in our roads..the sheer number of vehicles on the road, the indiscipline of most motorists, the "Take Diversion" (see vivek's take on this)which happens every other day,and ofcourse there are more no parking areas than Parking allowed areas...Even then you will get a parking a mile away from your place...if you are lucky.
So the next best thing I do is to go by Auto,do the shopping and return by Auto. This keeps my BP normal,my teeth from getting ground through gnashing and, I use less bad words per day.

                    1. commuting in big cities can be a big headache, I own a modified car, you can't do much with it in traffic except maybe sit in A/C and listen to music. But with a two wheeler you can slash the commuting time drastically.

                    2. Riding a bike is so much more pleasurable than driving a car, you are so much more involved in the whole experience.

                    3. cost factor, a mid sized car gives about 12-14kpl depending on various factors, I ride a p220 even with high speedbursts and constant battering it gives me over 30kpl. cost effective ain't it?

There are plenty more reasons, Time for my evening ride though

                    Bye.

Ha ha you are correct to the core... but the traffic buildup is mainly due to the increase in autos (including share autos) and also due to narrow roads, the roadside shops take up half of the road and you can't park a car (impossible). Bike is the best way to commute, even with a bike it takes me nearly half an hour to reach guindy from nandambakkam (my place). Also, the auto rickshaws don't use the meters and charge an exorbitant rate. My advice: buy a decent and fuel efficient bike, fill ur tank up with the money that u give to auto rickshaws and zoom past traffic (with proper safety gear, though) .

Gautam...for the past five years I had driven from t'nagar to near Nungambakkam IT office at 10 AM and at 5PM..I had patiently endured the taunts of unruly autos ,the terror of MTC ,cutting in and out in traffic, two wheelers jumping signals and landing in front of my car over my car top,and share autos maintaining 10km speed in front of me and not giving way.My Previous car Esteem was made into a M800 .I had sold it and now have only the Lancer.I am not willing to sacrifice it to these road butchers.
The sheer increase in number of vehicles WITHOUT CORRESPONDING ROAD AND ROUTING DEVELOPMENT had turned driving in Chennai a nightmare.
In fact the chaos extends upto Mahabs, and Chingleput . Two days back it took 3 Hrs to reach Tambaram from Chidambaram, and another hour to reach T'nagar.
Chennai like other young Metros had grown Vertically
