Why dont we see bajaj doin this sticker job with its pulsar brand,,,Its been doin good without graphics(and other useless so called upgrades) right from the start.
I agree to the fact that HMSI is going the HH way only doing cosmetic updates and not technical upgrades . Talking about the new color job's done ,I am sure that once it come out there will be people who would like the same.
I am not that finiky to have a sticker job done on my bike .I like it simple . But trust me there are folks out there who buy a plane version and put stickers all over. ( My view , no intention to offend any one around ) . Its each persons taste . What matters is one satisfied with the machine and the looks .
Hope HMSI understand that along with the cosmetic updates ( which would make the bike look unique), they should also look for technical updates . Its a reliable brand for sure and we all are looking forward for some 200 or 250 between our legs .
HH has three offerings for 150cc segment (with HMSI, that makes four), while TVS just one (considering 160cc within 150cc segment).... so, they do have variations, more variety.
I guess Extreme, Achiever, Uni and Hunk has same engine (tweaked differently) and injection technique. Yes they offer 4 varieties of stickers and handling.
RTR and RTR FI makes two genuine variations in its breed.
Apache is directed towards performance oriented people, esp. youth, who don't need to be directed by celebs, they buy what they find good... Flame is directed towards commuter class, where celeb endorsements do make an impact... So, they got Dhoni there.. Apache sells on it's own.. i.e. by goodies and performance..
Apache is not only directed towards performance oriented people, cos people today buy 150 for commuting as well. RTR is a nice city bike by virtue of its handling and flickering abilities. Sachin endorsing RTR can increase curiosity among people who are not aware of that this machine is an all rounder.
This raises a question that why not TVS has used Dhoni (instead of flame) or some other Image maker for RTR. Personally, i feel RTR deserves much better marketing.
My two cents...
Sachin was roped in by TVS to announce that they have arrived with a right bike for the Indian consumers. They had Sachin to endorse it as Sachin has appeal across India... If you remember the Victor ads, they showed people of different cultures riding the bike... Its done so that viewers relate to the product....
Post Victor, TVS was established as a Bike manfacturing company but their major sales came from south. Dhoni was roped-in to further establish the brand in North India.
HH does alot of advt/ branding of their company rather than their bikes. As we all know, their bike sales majorly is based on their company brand image compared to the merits of the bike.

No bike can be sold only on virtue of its company Brand. The company brand will only make people go to the showroom but if the model/bike does not deliver or please the customer it would not sell!
so far, HH and HMSI has delivered on the expectations of Indian consumer. It is recently that the need of the new Indian consumer has changed and i think HH and HMSI should do something fast to address this change in the need.

you have a point there...
but why would a company want to bring out a new bike in a segment when the one they have currently still sells... even with just sticker updates HH and HMSI sells enough products to meet their targets... Yamaha on the other hand was doing extremely bad in sales... they had to bring out something drastic and they did... HMSI and HH are not in crisis right now... nothing has been affecting their market hold... until that changes we won't find them coming up with any performance upgrades...
Honda seems to be a little laid back and still wants to enjoy their success on the Unicorn. But with the new steeds coming in the India scenario they will need to quickly upgrade their machines, both CC and styling. Stickers upgrades are good but only work when you are about to finish the first selling stage. When people start to retreat from the bike then the new stickered bikes can pull them. But, not these editions which arrive like a decade after the base version was released.
