    A Reflection on Solo Riders:

I always wondered how they did it. Each time I read a travelogue on solo rides, I can’t help wondering (with admiration) at these brave hearts. (a salute to you guys!). I’ve never done a solo myself even though some friends at xbhp have advised me to try it once. I’ve done many group rides (big groups and small groups) and with a pillion and as a pillion and now a days I do it with wifey in tow but never have done solo.

Would really like to know more about these riders, so reminiscent of the cowboys of the Wild West who rode off alone on their trusted horse into hostile and strange lands. Only bikes have replaced horses now and highways are the unexplored lands.

I’m not looking for travelogues as such, just some thoughts from our solo riders. Would love to know what goes on in the mind, what drives them, other than the pure love and passion of riding (?), especially on long lonely stretches of road and hours and hours and miles and miles of just your bike and you.

Sometimes just being on your own, being one with your machine and the road helps you attain a inner peace.

I do agree at times, being with yourself at times can be viewed as an extremely lonely/sad activity to do. But for me at a personal level, its a holiday that I enjoy with just myself. Its extremely stress busting and kind of help me get away from the daily hum drum of life.

EDIT: I forgot to add, on a Solo ride I don't have to worry about anyone else other than myself, this in itself takes out a lot of stress from the ride. Not that I don't enjoy riding in groups. Sometimes hitting the road solo, having your own deadlines for stops/food is really great!

The feeling of a machine and human becoming one, mentally and physically, is one of the most relaxing and peaceful idea on a solo trip. When implemented, it becomes one beautiful memorable ride, which rejuvenates you from the core... its just the mutual faith you have with you, your machine and above all God

I used to think in the same way. In fact, I had apprehensions of it in case I had a problem with the machine.
But solo rides are real soothing&moreover, its not like you can talk to co-riders. Its only when you stop.
The best part about solo riding IMO is you are completely in-charge&responsible for your actions. Riding speed, breaks, planning, everything.
I believe everyone must do atleast one solo ride of 500+kms.one way to realize their confidence level as a biker.

                    Its real fun

                    I agree with Sarvajit

@Ridermax - I have done majorly on solo trips....had fun doing these trips. I can stop where I decide and keep moving continously, the last ride I did was to Kanyakumari (Planned) but reached till Nagapattinam and it was pouring like hell and had my gears protecting...but still couldnt ride beyond that. (120Kms in complete rain) returned the same day with 650kms on the odo.... started by 5.15 from Chennai and my first stop was after Cuddalore (Just after Pondicherry it started pouring), had my breakfast by 9 and my next break was at Poombuhar (One of the oldest Trade Place for Pearls) and then set to Karaikal and took a break there. this is where my bike started giving problems, water got into the spark plug. Bike switched off and no place to stop except for a tree, parked da bike and walked to a shed which was around 50mts from the bike. almost 2 hrs had to just watch the rain. I was standing in dry with all my gears taking all the water on it, rain never looked like reducing, went on and cleaned the plug covered with plastic sheet, again started off to reach Nagapattinam. Just before 2kms from Nagapattinam, rain never looked like stopping. Thought I will prefer to turn back instead of staying at Nagapattinam. Reached back by around 9pm. dint do anything except for riding. People around looked at me as an alien whereever i went and stopped. One family who came from Karnataka in a Scorpio asked me if am mad to do these kind of things. I only smiled at him and let him go.

Love to ride solo....you decide on what u want to do.
Never Give up on something that you can't go a day without thinking about.

                    Cheers

Some of the best rides which i had done are SOLO.

Riding on your own,Choosing your own ways, hassle free photobreak/teabreak/Daybreak,no overhead of adjusting with various kind of peoples and their riding style and many more things which makes Solo rides very much enjoyable.

I would say all the disadvantages(Dont want to list them in this thread ) which are there in the Group Rides, makes me tour Solo.

                      Cheers to all SOLO tourers

My road, My Ride, My Style, My time... All the time! is what makes solo riding special. Riding becomes a conversation with yourself, the bike, the roads... you are all by yourself, if that doesnt give you the feeling of freedom, then I dont know what would!!!

PS: but then there are cases where riding with a small group makes it better too, but your partner(s) has to gel with you well in them!

I have been doing solos since more than couple of years now...My reasons :

                              1. You need not stick to a schedule. Change it whenever you want.
                              2. Take as many breaks as you want(photo/butt/smoke).
                              3. Need not worry about others fellow riders.
                              4. Can vary riding speeds at your will.
                              5. The feeling of being one with your machine.

                              Issues :

                              1. Incase of breakdowns/mishaps. But if you get a proper service with oil change and cluth wire changes before the rides breakdowns can be easily avoided. Mishaps, one cant help...Its tottaly upto you and your luck

Not that I have not done group rides and all but I kinda find solos more relaxed. I ride for peace of mind and solos suit me more than anything else...purely personal opinion
                              ...Back to HIBERNATE mode...
