Good topic, & good to see the thoughts of everyone here.

Its a known fact that cars are safer than bikes.

I for one, love riding bikes, but don't see a reason to get angry when someone tells me about the perils of riding a bike. Infact, I sometimes feel sorry for them for their idea of riding not being fun.
I respect their opinion, & do all I can to make my riding safe (like riding safely, wearing riding gear, etc). I do try to tell them about the 'Pleasures of Motorcycling', without the intention of expecting them to change their opinion. C'mon, if I am not willing to change my opinion, it would be foolish to expect them to change their's.

I'm happy doing what I love doing, & letting others do/ not do what they love doing/ not doing. Getting angry or into an argument will not make things better. I'm happy as long as I have conveyed my point.

    To each man, his own.

The pleasure is when your rear wheel slides, and you bring it back; and when the front wheel lifts, you take your time bringing it back.

A very good point there..! No use of expecting them to change, we can show them our pity though.

JAKRAP - I'm going to shamelessly copy your thought posted here & keep spreading around, no matter you agree or not . That was a fantastic thought & well explained. I'm already inclined to your posts from the Motorcycling & Age & now I'm becoming a fan of your posts as you've inspired me a lot; Like PSR ji says, your posts reflects a mature mind out of wisdom & provokes my thoughts. Simply awesome.

Good one dude ... the traffic sense you talk about in your post ( autowallas, passengers in transport buses ..... ) is very true .... In India all the drivers are in so hurry that they won't stop even on sight of a person crossing street instead they will take steep turn and abuse him and continue .. In foreign country they respect pedestrians .... Also they keep a minimum distance between the vehicles even if standing on a stop sign ... Here its so jam packed that even a person cannot move ... To add to the agony the traffic mess created by autos ... if their hands are not free they will put their leg out to indicate they are turning .... no traffic sense at all ... hope that in India also people develop some traffic sense ....

yup agreed ... somedays ago in Vadodara city I noticed traffic homeguards stopping the vehicles before zebra crossing which otherwise they would go beyond that and stop ... lots of things need to be changed .... thanks for commenting ...

one guy cant change the whole world. but as i said, thats my personal thought and everyone has their own right to think and express what they feel. mutual respect, and that is what everyone here keeps. feels good to see such good thoughtfull comments.

as with the zebra crossing, i'll tell you a true story. i was at a zebra crossing. i stopped to let the pedestrians go. a guy and girl in a tavera stops behind me and started honking. he never stopped and i never moved. he looked like a wise guy but was a certified retard like most drivers. after a couple of seconds what he did was he hit my silencer end cap and made me move. he put his pedal to the medal and drove to the horizon leaving the poor pedestrians in awe. some cops where there and they did what they where supposed to do. NOTHING.

and the story ends with me losing 165 rs replacing the silencer end cap and the tavera guy driving off with the girl.

so like i said, i have my reasons to be angry like most of you.

You should have noted the Registration number and reported the matter to the nearest police station...What that Tavera idiot did is called "Hit and Run",which calls for severe punishment....A few years ago when a Moron continued to horn at me to move when there was Red signal , I parked my bike in front of his Sumo got off took off my Helmet and shouted at him.I called the traffic police at the signal and even when the lights turned green I stood my ground, and did not allow him to go.After one more signal change and the police man warning him, I moved aside....Of course the others in traffic did join my side and it became a issue for the Tata Sumo guy...
But now I have mellowed and I may not do the same.

U r very true buddy .... only one person can't make a difference. Even if some of us try there are others out there who won't let us make driving in traffic a little less miserable both for drivers and pedestrians. Anyways I will follow the rules once I get my own bike ...

                          +1; very well agreed!!!

I'd do the same, but instead of yelling, I would ask him very politely why is he honking & doesn't he know that RED means to stop & by honking does he wants me to jump the signal. If he asks me back, why don't I move & make way for him, then, if there's a way, I'd move otherwise, I'll state the obvious.

that, you should always note regestration numbers of those vehicles which does a "hit and run".

i should've, but i didnt. my bike was new at that time. so i was busy analysing the damages done. but yeah, that was a mistake from my part not to note the registration number. our kerala motorvehicle department has a vehicle database which is accessible by public. just type in the regestration number in the website and it'll show the details and addresses of the past and current owners of the vehicle.

and i regret it everyday. not that i lost 165 rs, but because that sucker got away!

fatality-X, that is a great way to express your feeling..... a lot of anger suppressed by daily activities, has to come out one way..... and this is one form .....
but there are many ways of shutting up these people..... the best I found was time to odo read..... I simply say, dude complete 19k in one year and then come & talk with me..... else you are not qualified or even worth to stand in front of me..... if you wanna do something, ride for non-stop 20hrs and then even think of uttering a word about motor-cycling..... I know there are many great riders out there and done much more than these things..... & those silly people don't even have any idea about those great stories.....

no use explaining them or try to make them understand..... they try to be ignorant and I become arrogant ..... simple now they talk, this is a crazy guy..... he does crazy things .....

"Riding " is a passion few can understand in the correct perspective. Not reacting to teasers is a way I found as a positive put down to those who tease me.
The greatest put down you can do is to ignore the person.Have sympathy, because they don't know what they are missing. Practice it and you will have Good health and happiness..Continue riding..safely.just my thought.
all respect to you psr Ji..... even that is my dream to do this and many more years after that..... people like you are inspirations for us.....
riding has become a part of life..... its gives peace of mind and extra energy to tackle situations in daily life..... hope to pursue this dream if health permits and Angels guard.....

danger is something which will not come knocking to your door..... it came come in any shape or size..... but being on two-wheeler increases this risk to many fold..... as mentioned by JakRap, all those snakes running after the chick-hen..... even as small as a stone can be dangerous on turns..... being on two wheels, is fun full of adrenaline..... but that is the fun part we want to enjoy..... and the safety is always in our hands..... you cannot blame any other person on the road for any accident, cause its the motorcyclists who suffer the most.....

so, its better to ride in your own safe power range rather than just show-off or chasing or proving something..... someone said -- its better to be late than never.....

you mentioned in the first post that all a motorcyclist do is sit and lean. is it that simple? if you ask me which was difficult, my 4hr 80km cycle ride or my 456 km 12hr motorcycle ride? my answer will be without any hesitation the second one. just because i had to put more effort mentally during the second trip than the first one. i was able to do the first one fairly easy comparing my longest on a motorcycle. and i've done similar 60km rides on my cycle many times and never felt any discomfort.

and why i dont do much longer trips on my cycle is because it is not designed for that purpouse. my cycle's seats are hard and is designed like a wooden horse's back. there is no suspension whatsoever on my cycle. and if i ever want to buy a purpouse built touring/all terrain cycle i'll have to shell out atleast 20000. and i'm not yet making enough money to spend that much on a cycle even though i love to.
riding a cycle on hills is fun..... just have to struggle getting up, and let it go..... good to hear about your cycling passion & experience..... cycling is always fun but a good cycle costs so much.....

n there are many incidents related to these traffic..... all these sumos & indicas, they drive a person crazy by their riding habits(no offense to drivers)..... they are always in a hurry..... & rich b@&tard& on their big vehicles always try to prove something with some other chick on their left..... the auto walas always try to race with other vehicles..... & traffic police try to impose rules only when they need money..... these things are common and they gonna stay forever..... it can improve but will always be there.....
even I had to pay one time just to cross the while line in signal .....
