    Well I've a weakness for the R1... inspite of it's uncivilized nature, I'll still choose it amongst others (unless the BMW S1000RR is in the scene)

    R1 with the big bang motor has the lowest quoted figs, pre '09 ones had bhp figs in the ballpark but they were pretty unusable,

    yes that is very normal. all the horsepower figures that you see being advertised are done at the crank. real horsepower is always at the rear wheel on the dynos

    Yup!! The 181 bhp of R1 or the Fireblade is also at the crank. At the back wheel r1 2010 is around 157 and Fireblade is a bit more.
    The R1 is one of the lowest in terms of BHP. But both in R1 and the Fireblade (specially Fireblade) that this power is very usable unlike probably ZX10R which is around 10-12 bhp more but it is not that usable atleast on streets.

    The difference in the BHP at crank and at the back wheel is generally around 17-18 bhp depending on the bike.

    That is why in every test, every magazine, every website you will find a different bhp no for a bike.

    Peak Power output at Crank Vs Rearwheel

    Hi,

    While discussing the newly launched Suzuki GSXR1000 and subsequent information gathering over the internet, I came across a MCN article which mentioned the peak power output of the GSXR1000 is 161 bhp. This was pretty surprising to me as I found it was way behind the 181 bhp genere of the R1 and the Fireblade.

    Further in the I came to know through discussions that it's actually peak power output of the GSXR1000 at rear wheel and not at crank.

    So, just for my understanding, wanted to know if the 181 bhp of the R1s and the Fireblades is the power at crank, then how come the parasitic loss of power through the transmission is a massive 20bhp?? Is it normal??

    I ask this because a person at the end of my lane owns a blue R1 07 or 08 i'm not sure , but I have been watchin that house for a couple of years now ,( for obvious reasons ) but that bike hasn't moved an inch ... he does also own couple of FZ's and a royal enfield , maybe a case of aplenty , but if it is possible and he is willing , I would like to make an offer for it ...

    ^^ I would also like to know what the procedure etc is .. and whether the bike will be any cheaper than through the usual method of getting it through a certified dealer (like for Yam, Honda, Suzuki etc)

    I wont give a rats ass about riding a 100cc in wet conditions for the first time ever in life ( first time meanin I wont be comfy on it at all).

    Secondly, riding with steady inputs in a progressive manner is applicable to all kinds of riding in all weather.
    NO ! You can afford to have aggressive (not progressive) inputs in good dry conditions.
    In wet if you are not easy on inputs you are toast in 2 mins.

    First of all, I don't think a dog peeing on the road will make much difference in full blown rains.
    In the MID of the road. If the dog is peeing in the mid of the road it isnt his pee which is my worry lol...its the whole freakin dog in the MID of the road. His pee wont make me skid lol..
    If you apply the same braking principals which you apply in dry weather, you will be fine.
    Even if i buy your point it only sorts my braking issues. I have tons of other issues in wet..like throttle control and lean angle issues...applying same principles which i apply in dry weather to these issues is suicide.
