@ all who want to buy second hand and get it to india:
you just cant buy any used bike in the USA and ship to india and claim cheaper taxes..our customs babus arent that dumb yet..
you have to show that you own the bike and that you are coming back to india after having resided abroad. SO there is the issue of your visa and residence transfer.
but keep thinking im sure one of us may find a legal loophole..

It is available off the shelf, from the local Honda showroom. Ex-showroom price; 9.7L. About 10.6L OTR Delhi!

The best you can get is 10+ years old bike, with duties accounted on a depreciated price, which is 30% of Purchase Invoice Value... But this remains same, so EVEN a 20 year old bike would invite 30% duties only, and no less than that...
That is not how it works in real life!

You pay the same! On the evaluation done by the customs officials.

There is no such thing as "without customs"!

2005 Kawasaki Ninja ZX-10R - the best litre class bike I have ever had the privilege of placing my generous backside on and taking out for a spin (literally). Would wheelie without warning in 1st, 2nd, 3rd and with the slightest of clutch-assistance in 4th. Insane INSANE bike and definitely one to own, covet and collect because this WILL go down as the bike that separates the men...from the boys.

I was so scared of it - I bought a Hayabusa

I know Ducati is in India, it was flashed across all news media. Need no proof . But as you said, its not for everyone and at 50 lakh price tag for 1098 R, its a lifestyle product. So if we leave the "lifestyle" product out of choices, there are just two 1 litre engined bikes available officially.

I have been riding the R1 (of varying years and models) for 30K kms now. And have been riding the Blade and the Ninja and the Gixer on and off. Vivek takes my R1 and gives me his Ninja from time to time. As far as the litre class goes... both Vivek and I are of the opinion, in ergonomics, no other litre class even comes close to the One! But then others may differ.

Unless its a manufacturer event, you can forget abt test rides. If a friend lets you test it, then well and good.
This is unbelievable! You can't test ride a bike?

When I was in France, I could test ride ANY bike of my choice from a dealership for a duration of less than 30 minutes. I had to leave my IDL at the dealership, an attendant would accompany me with another bike. And I had to get back in less than 30 minutes, insurance cover and all!

I do not know how it is in the rest of Europe though.

now listen wat i meant was i dont agree with fireblah saying that we dont have many choices....we have a lot of choices if u can spend the money

wat about u fireblah were u not confused wat litre bike to choose from the options available(read R1,1000RR and 1098 and its ur fault if u didnt know about ducati it was in the papers and tv for 3 to 4 days continuously)

and as i said before I AM ONLY TALKIN ABOUT LITRE BIKES!!

PS:i know 1098 is crazy with its 50 lakhs price tag but its here
