I have been periodically importing add on parts for my MT since last year. No problem whatsoever. As long as you are willing to pay the customs duties and other levies the system works very smoothly. I did not even have to get off my chair, delivered straight here.

As long as one is willing to work within the system and not try to defy and break the laws (how ever unfair they are); the system works fairly.

Yes the import laws for new bikes are convoluted but the impunity and scale of the knock down import scenario made one wonder how long will all this last.

That's the main reason I went for an official Indian billing bike after almost striking up a deal to import the Speed Triple.

BTW: From what I read in some business mag... Ducati is building a factory near Pune, over the next 3-4 years. They will start making parts and also assembling CDK's there...... Let's see how the Japs react to that move.

The showroom in Mumbai was set to open Oct-Nov, Don't know if the other one in Delhi has opened?
Please tell me the details and source!! I will tell you something as to why this is very very important to me.[pm]

So the prices could come down and my dream of buying a monster will come true one day

That is not how it works in real life!
Yeah try bribing to get a bike through customs now.... the officer will show you the door. The DRI has put a stick up everyone's you know where.

I paid 143%, on the depreciated price of the bike. The rules for calculation of depreciated value of a used bike are published on the customs website, I dont remember. My bike was depreciated at @13% at 1.5 years old.... I could be wrong its been 1.5 yrs since the last time I looked at the customs paper work.

I was told by a very influential customs agent that you can import a brand new bike, only if you have a licence to Import. New bikes cannot come as TR.

Kawasaki does not exist. On their own that is, only heard that name along with bajaj.

Ducati will officially sell all its bikes in India. Including the smallest bike 696 in India.

The 696 is priced at 10.69 lakhs ex-showroom in Mumbai.

Found some info about 2010 ZX10R. It will be a big bang engine.
It must come to India when it is released at end of 2010.

Kawasaki has applied for patent of flat cylinder design.

Not sure if this is the right thread, but here goes my query..

Since speed 97 is available in limited number of places in India, can we have a list of Fuel stations offering Speed 97 with approximate location of the fuel bunk, shall help all the SBK tourers

Yeah thats the thing i required. But can he go back to UK leaving the bike in india? Wont he get any issues in leaving bike here? And how much tax should he pay if he bringing the bike in his name? Like if he is bringing a 800+cc bike, how much duty will be required to pay?

your cousin can't just bring it here and sell it to you, he has to own the bike in india for two years after the date of registration in india before he can sell it, like he is your cousin so you could ask him to bring it down here and let it be in his name, you can pay him and keep riding the bike for two years before you transfer it in your name.
