  • [Photo Feature]: Review of joel's free flow for pulsar 220

    HI GUYS,

WANTED TO SHARE THE EXPERIENCE OF GETTING A JOELS FREE FLOW EXHAUST INSTALLED ON MY BIKE. so here it goes.

i live in kolkata in a g2g i saw anuraag's (motormania) pulsar 220 fitted with joels exhaust it was the older version. just loved the sound. i decided i will get one for my bike as well.
so collected the funds and pm joel for price and delivery and stuffs.
after transferring the funds and around one month of wait i got the free flow.

it looks beautiful. shiny chrome and its shorter in size. you will either love it or hate the way it looks because of its size. i loved it.

after getting the free flow installed the sound was awesome. its bassy and loud. joel didnt provide me the decibel killer. i used to nag him to provide it to me but after getting used to the sound of the ffe i thought even if i get the db killer perhaps i will never use it.

the power delivery is awesum. the mid range and the low range has increased a lot. the acceleration has improved a lot. i can hit three digits very fast.

now there are few feedbacks also for joel if he comes accross my thread.
i wish there was a drain hole in the free flow. because of the angle water can seep through very easily.
there could have been a few design choice as many people may not like the short structure of the ffe. so if joel comes out with a longer version he may have a lot of takers.
the ffe is very prone to rusting i hope joel could do something about it. may be a different alloy or something.

i rode my bike wth joels ffe for more than 1000km and only after that i am doing this review. its a fantastic product considering the price it comes for. but it can even be better and also the best.

overall if u want a louder exhaust with better acceleration without screwing up the engine or burning a hole in your pocket i think this is the best option. so this is highly recommended for all the pulsar 220 owners

thanks for the review pranjal.was waiting for someone to write over it.i too think that the exhaust should be a bit long but that will increase the weight & about rusting, joel should do something about this asap.let's see what he can do about this..

A wrongly deisgned exhaust will mess AFR and cause a lot of efficiency problems which will inturn kill the reliability of a few parts. Like the exhaust valve, valve seat etc.
A tuned exhaust, which in this case is my freeflow, is meant to work with the cam design, cylinder head design and the engine capacity. Also based on other performance analysis and racing experience.

Answers to the following questions will be appreciable :-

                      1) Mileage ?
                      2) Sound ? (A revving video perhaps)
                      3) Total cost ?
                      4) Any actual problems faced due to water entering it ?

                        ^^^ Let me answer these:
                        1. Will show an increase in mileage. (Ya, I know it goes against all that we know and have been taught to expect.)
                        2. Sound in one word 'Soulful'
                        3. For the cost, mail or PM Joel. He does not discuss the price on open forum.
                        4. Yes, water does get collected into the exhaust when it rains. But every time that has happen (and its happen frequently due to heavy rains), the water is thrown 10 feet back out of the exhaust during the first crank and the bike starts at the second crank. Rest of water evaporates as steam once you start moving.

                          1) Mileage ?

slight improvement noticed under normal riding conditions, which obviously people dont do once they get this ffe. On a serious note, I am using this ffe for the past 8 months and i have noticed a slight increase in FE when ridden sanely.

                          2) Sound ?

LOUD, feels awesome when the parked car's alarm goes off

                          3) Any actual problems faced due to water entering it ?

havent had any problem of rain water entering the exhaust and i rode in continuos rainfall all throughout monsoon
You can take the ride away from me but you cannot take the rider out of my soul.........

been using from a month and 1000km on my p200

                              1) mileage- well very minute increase , will not drop atleast for sure

2)sound:- i have the newer version with the db killer et all , yes the sound without db killer is LOUD and pretty nice !! but some days when u want a silent day of riding, just pop the db killer and the sound reduces to a great extent .. but the differences in performance from stock is best felt without the db killer

3)no problem of water entering etc and its been raining everyday here in bangalore ..

my only issue with the exhaust is the joint wer the weld is present for mounting the exhaust to the bike is already rusting and the sealing of the mouth of the exhaust to the cylindrical part is uneven and this is causing some air leaks ..all in all these are just the minor issues ..and will be talking to joel in some days abt all this so hopefully should be resolved

                              im satisfied with the exhaust
