I've heard of this too, i guess ur supposed to add 10ml per litre of fuel for efficient combustion of fuel, its supposed to noticeably increase the acceleration nd top end of the bike. Too much ethanol causes tiny explosions in the bore causing piston holes. Never tried it so far though.

10ml per litre is only 1%.. Most car & bike manuals says it can be used in the range of 5% to 10%, which is 50ml to 100ml!! Is it too much??

Ethanol is a fuel with higher RON and so helps in preventing pre-ignition.It is a clean burning fuel with water as one of the end product .This means the exhaust,valves etc., are likely to rust much more than normal.The combustion efficiency of ethanol is lower than petrol,and so needs more ethanol to reach same distance compared to petrol...

So Ji, what're the other options to mix with 91 RON fuel, IF, ethanol cannot be mixed? Do I've my own choice to make a 97 RON at lesser price than the regular 97 RON (Speed 97)?

Yes but it is risky..I normally use Pure Acetone at 1.5ml per liter of petrol to get smooth engine performance..Sometimes I get better FE though not consistent.Here is a link to a DIY octane booster..like the content says "Do it at your own Risk ".

I also used pure acetone at around 4-5 ml per L of petrol. I thought I used to get higher fuel efficiency figures of an almost 5kmpl increase. However after adding acetone consistently over a 5 month period, my personal experience has been that the increase in fuel efficiency was just down to my riding style and my own confirmation bias. Even I felt that the engine ran smoother after adding acetone but then again when i replaced my air filter and engine oil the engine was just as smooth and gave the better mileage without any acetone. So i have concluded that acetone indeed doesn't help much and might in fact dissolve something on its way to combustion and so have stopped using it.
I used to use the Analytical Grade Acetone which is 99.99% pure and the cleanest acetone available in the market (not the impure nail polish remover types). Used to take 10-15 mls of it from my bottle in the chemistry lab

Using Acetone I found that the combustion chamber deposits were minimal ,evident from periodic checking of spark plug ,running with and without Acetone..and always with Acetone the engine was smooth,and at times when i accelerated at a higher gear from lower RPM found the engine to fire without 'pinging"..ie, pre-ignition.

i can agree to that , but acetone is expensive (205/.5lit)

3M manufactures that if I remember correctly. Costs 65 bucks and supposed to clean the pipes, tank etc. Don't think it will be of any effect if you just put it once or twice.

I get Acetone from Approved Lab suppliers and it is 99% pure .It costs me Rs.180/- per 500ml and will serve for 333 liters of Petrol at less than 60 Paise per liter(1.5ml per liter).

I was wondering about the use of ethanol blended petrol ever since I read in the manual that the CBR supports ethanol.

Wondering if I should trial acetone with petrol mixture on the cBR but need more info on the same.

using Acetone is useless. That thing evaporises in an instant. How long does nail polish remover stay on your nails before disappearing?

incase it didnt evaporise, it will take out all rubber parts inside the carb. Same with ethanol, both are bad for rubber parts.
