  • Modifications allowed on BIkes [as per Indian Law]

    Hello,

sorry for the separate topic ..as i couldn't able to find the right thread which discusses this

Here all can contribute [like which mods are allowed and which not] so the new thread.

    my question is :

Q: Is repainting the bike/car is legal ?? means in RC book the color is mentioned and one wants to paint with different color then is it allowed ?

Q: if its allowed then is there any procedure to change [color mention] it in RC book ??
    Nothing is Impossible ...

Advice is a form of nostalgia.
Dispensing it is a way of fishing the past from the disposal, wiping it off, painting over the ugly parts and recycling it for more than it's worth.

      Few questions from me

1.Is it legal to add free flow exhaust, big bore kit and other engine modifications?

      2. Can i legally add stickers or logos on my rear no. Plate? I mean no. is written on the lower half of the plate and uppar half is just plain white. I want to add stickers to upar half space on the number plate

free flow is not legal at all, other engine mods i think would need an approval from the rto as being safe for the streets (not really sure about this)...

as far as painting is concerned yes you can get the color in the rc book changed to the one you paint ur bike, more info on this can be gotten from an rto agent, i also heard that there is a way to paint the bike and keep the rc book as it is if u leave one part of the bike in original color mentioned in rc book.. maybe someone else can shed more light on this

Nothing on the number plate other than the registration number. Anything else would make you liable to be challaned.

Free flow doesn't have a cat-con. The vehicle is no longer complaint to emission norms of the land.

Free flow increases noise, most probably exceeds noise regulation limitations.

              Doing both is illegal.

i dont have a cat-con and my bike clears the puc tests without any issues, the main reason why a free flow is not allowed is because it crosses sound limit of 80db and according to the rule any kind of modification at all is not allowed to the exhaust, let alone replacing the whole thing with a louder one.

regarding the number plate it is now mandatory to have embossed number plates, and thus even without any stickers the usual number plates we have are non-compliant of the current laws

Passing Emission norms is different from Passing PUC. I hope people will understand this someday.

please explain how they are different, just wanna know because i thought PUC is to monitor the bikes emission.

For that, look at the back-side of your latest PUC certifcate and then compare it with this chart (Table 7). It is kinda self explanatory.

understood, but emission norms are something that the manufacturer has to follow, isnt it??
so once bike is approved and on the roads even if u make modifications to the bike that hamper the bikes compliance with emission norms how are the cops ever gonna know??

Modifications to the engine,Exhaust, and chassis are not allowed ,and change of color from original needs RC book endorsement from RTO.Even adding a second horn, loud horn,Air Horn,Musical Horn are all prohibited. Using white beam Head Light, blue color, as also dazzling head lights are not allowed.
Use of black paint in the center of headlight to the size of 1 inch diameter is a must...No colored flags are allowed..No colored lights other than city and brake lights are allowed..

well i have asked this in the forum [b'lore traffic police], and according to them this law is no more present, ie.. there is no need to put paint/sticker to half of headlight or as mentioned above, BUT there is a strict law that prohibits using high beam in city limits and its fineble offense

Absolutely no modifications are legal, other than color change, that too with due notary in the RC.

The black paint rule was some time back, since scrapped, because all modern bulbs come with the tip painted in silver. So the black paint is not required anymore.
