so reboring the engine is illegal?

u cannot play around with different cam shafts?

is it allowed to change the electricals to full DC? (electricals are related to engine in some way and with cops catching ppl for not wearing helmet in a car..u never know)

u cannot put a louder horn? even if it within limits of the precscribed number?

hell can u even repair ur bike without the govt approval?

is what ppl like JOEL and others doing illegal?

i havent seen till dat in mumbai a single bike with the black paint on head light at the centre
is it only for 2 wheelers or for all vehicles?
if its a law why dont the manufacturers put a black sticker when the vehicle is coming out of the factory?
during monsoons heavy rains the sticker or the paint can easily come off

it sounds stupid...i spend my hard earned money into a vehicle and i want my vehicle to behave the way i want i shud be allowed to do so if it is within the limits of emissions decibels blAH BLAH

How is any cop going to find out you carried out reboring, changed the camshafts or changed electricals?
I think maximum they can do is try and match the engine no etc from the RC. As long as that matches, I dont think they have the know how or time required to research further. I m not encouraging any one to break the law, rather trying to point out the futility of the law and difficulties in implementation. That said anybody may need to carry out procedures like reboring etc for repair purposes.

In theory there are lot of things which will be prohibited in terms of modifications.. which one should avoid. but also any modification to the bike/car .. if its not noticeable [like flashy high intensity lights..loud horns..loud exhaust.. ] then its fine ..but remember it also illigal

I remember reading a news .. that in Mumbai [or some place].. that residents complained about loud noise by superbikes and police acted on that stretch and fined/recovered around large number of superbikes ...and this also caused turf between RTO and local police ..as saying RTO should not allow even stock bikes with louder sounds [which all superbikes makes by default]

so reboring the engine is illegal?
Making any changes to stock displacement is illegal. If the RC says 223 cc Karizma, it must not become a 230cc (or more) Karizma. If caught, there may be serious implications.
Conditions you may get caught - In case of an accident, while applying for insurance/replacement.

u cannot play around with different cam shafts?
            No idea.

is it allowed to change the electricals to full DC? (electricals are related to engine in some way and with cops catching ppl for not wearing helmet in a car..u never know)
AFAIK, this shouldn't pose a problem. AC-DC doesn't involve engine related (or any ) mechanical changes to components.

u cannot put a louder horn? even if it within limits of the precscribed number?
If within the DB limits, its legal. You can go for Pulsar/Karizma dual horns any day!

hell can u even repair ur bike without the govt approval?
he he he. You can do anything without the govt's approval here, until you're caught.

is what ppl like JOEL and others doing illegal?
Modifications aren't legal! Joel does provide VFM mods, but again, you plonk his FFE but you've to maintain under 3-3.5K RPM within city, else you'll be challaned. You get my drift?

i havent seen till dat in mumbai a single bike with the black paint on head light at the centre
is it only for 2 wheelers or for all vehicles?
if its a law why dont the manufacturers put a black sticker when the vehicle is coming out of the factory?
during monsoons heavy rains the sticker or the paint can easily come off
Its followed in Chennai and Pondi regions as far as my experience goes. Maybe it was never implemented/removed fully. You can always put a black sticker from the inside of the glass. It'd never come off.

it sounds stupid...i spend my hard earned money into a vehicle and i want my vehicle to behave the way i want i shud be allowed to do so if it is within the limits of emissions decibels blAH BLAH
You can't do just anything if you spent money. Else, everyone would change their M800s into Ferrari. (no offence)

            Replies in bold.

            K&N is lethal. Period!

Since it doesn't increase the DB levels to a great extent, I think its not illegal. But, its not good for your bike unless:-
            1. You have a pulsar and
            2. You fit the pulsar-specific K&N. (Refer K&N website for the same)

Never plonk universal K&N on a pulsar.
If its not a pulsar, stay away from these altogether!

LOL! By that logic, my old P180UG3 was highly illegal . It had a different cam shaft, it was converted to full DC, had dual Windtone horns and even 2 HID's

Bhpians, my stock Honda horn is rated for 105 db (dont know its exact output but enough to ** you know what )
                Now what about db limit?
And vehicles here, need to have a black strip (of 1 inch of thickness) on the upper area of head lamp lens(es) so that it doesn't glare oncoming vehicles.
I have that black strip and still I can annoy bikers/drives. (if i want)
reason for stating all this, laws without R&D can't do much good for both sides.

                    Re: Bigger displacement engine.

I was wondering, is it legal to install a bigger displacement engine on a bike? If yes, what are the procedures (read as paperwork) involved? If not, what are the consequences of doing so?
This thought came into mind because nowadays, so many bikes with bigger bores (bigger displacement) can be seen on many forums as this.
Sarcasm is my automatic response to stupidity.

                        No..its not legal.
But no one is ever going to open the engine and measure the exact dimensions, and from outside it looks similar too.Rules like these and do not exceed 50 kmph in 2 wheelers are just for show!

Yes, It is illegal to install a big bore kit on your machine. if Police can find it or not is a different issue.
Anything written on the RC-book if changed then you should get it endorsed it on the RC Book, (including color).
Bigger bore increases the power which your bike's chassis or other parts (brake) may not be able to handle it. To make it legal you have to apply to RTO They will do through testing (I think ARAI) and then will certify (this is the procedure).
