  • InterCom / Connectivity - While riding in group.

Since every 1 cannot afford the high tech Intercoms, like bluetooth connected Wireless systems.

Motorcycle Helmet Intercoms & Bluetooth Communications - RevZilla

We still have Android Systems on our Phones, right ?????

Question is - is there any proper working application OR any cheap device available in the market.

A conference call seems to be the only solution enabled by Android systems.

I had seen a radio around $28 / piece with a range of a couple of km. Had even shared it on Pune G2G Thread a couple of years back. It came with a wired headset and a handlebar grip which costed around $25 extra which could be worn inside the helmet and could be activated by pressing a button near the handlebar.

Will have to look for it again.
Advice is a form of nostalgia.
Dispensing it is a way of fishing the past from the disposal, wiping it off, painting over the ugly parts and recycling it for more than it's worth.

Well we used walkies on our Spiti trip. Motorola walkies. All you need is a headset like a mobile phone and you have to press the button to speak like any walkie. The button we left near the neck, so it was easy to press. The walkies we used to strap inside our jackets. Easy and cheap..
Biking is not about what you have between your legs, its all about how well you use it!!!!!!!

Please bare in mind that such things if you are caught in NE states may pose a problem as security forces with AFSPA privileges can put you behind bars without right to trial or any explanation terming you as an extremist..

if i am correct it is illegal to carry wireless headsets here in NE without HAM operating license.. This may be applicable near borders more. Even Satellite phones are not allowed. Seniors may correct me if i am wrong on this.

              Cheers,

I have a pair of these cheaper Intercoms (They come in a pair). Although I wouldn't recommend ordering these, as I had to return them since they did not work the first time. I have had this for about an year now, although not perfect (sometimes has a mind of its own), it works for the price. You can connect to 2 other similar Intercoms as per the description and also to cellphones. I have used it only as an intercom with the pillion.

The other alternative is to get Motorola Radio's like suggested above, which are probably illegal in India without proper license. They will also be a hassle with having to run wires and this would be an inconvenience when you have to take the helmet out often. Some of the newer Motorola ones has iVOX capability which can effectively be used hands-free like this one, but these are probably error prone as they could get activated with the wind noise.

Well. I'm venturing into app making for droids. If there is anybody with an aptitude for programming and interest in it, we could create an app that acts as an intercom through Bluetooth/NFC/mobile data+g-maps. The app would switch between the available connectivity options to keep riders connected. Sounds a little far out, but it's possible and plausible. With work and input the app could work well as a basic device to keep riders connected on the go.

^^ if only aptitude for programming and interest are the only things required to create an app, i am in, with an added benefit of "was very good with C programming in college" some 11 years ago ... plus "experience of assembly language programming for micro controllers" some 8 years ago....but i think something more will be required.

JAVA. Very important. Programming in c is redundant, cumbersome and difficult. :P some modules will be in c, but it'll mostly be java. And assembly level codes won't be of much use. Sone basic knowledge on android platform development is welcome too. Well, after my exams finish, I'll start working on the codes. If something solid comes up I'll update you guys here.

I found these apps for Android, not sure if your device requires Wi-Fi direct support or not. You could then use a Bluetooth Headset like the Samsung WEP-870, if you want stereo, do a little DYI and install it on your helmet if you want to go wireless.
