Re: Purchasing Power of Indian Bikers
Just now went through the whole thread.. to be honest I had never bought a new bike till date from my salary.. dad bought a passion plus when I was in final year of my college.. its still with us.. 75k on d odo.. couple of accidents I met with put me off the bike for some two years. . I bought a used fz last year just to use on weekends.. must I say that, this bike woke me up to the biking world.. I started taking it to office often.. had to sell it off due to smaller pillion seat since I have a kid now.. looking forward to buy my first new ride
as of now am eyeing on apache 180 abs to be more safe on the road.. p.s. I am working since 2006..

Re: Purchasing Power of Indian Bikers
My first bike was six times my salary at that time(2006). Wasn't married at that time. Today if I wanted, I'd go for a bike roughly six times my salary again. If I hadn't a home loan...

Re: Purchasing Power of Indian Bikers
So many bikes because I hate sitting in Car. :POriginally posted by pcgamer View PostBro, can I know the reason behind so many bikes? Also why 220 so many times?
And I love Bikes only from the time I saw we didn't had any bike.
From the time I saw people having splendor and it use to be the king of that time.
My brother had some Bike poster in Main (Hall) room when I Was in 3rd or 4th standard, Man the Body of that bike was Transparent. Full Engine visible. So Tempting. !
I love bikes in New condition so keep changing them.
And the reason to change bikes are as follows :
Pulsar 180 Sold : My brother's friend took the bike for a day and he got some injury in a accident while his other friend Died on the spot on that bike.
Pulsar 220FI Sold : Cousin came, he loved the Bike and took it saying I'll pay money to you, I don't have time to go showroom. My brother gave because it was Red color (Dad insisted for red) and we wanted Black.
Fazer : My brother Loves Yamaha. For him Bajaj is like a China Mobile & Yamaha is Apple Inc. Fazer got Lifetime service free + 11k discount
Pulsar 220F (11 months old) Sold for 18k : Completely trashed in Accident in which I got 22 Stitches in left side of waist.
I was on Bed for 10-11 months. Lower body (Below waist) was paralyzed for 3 week. I was a handicap and believe me it was the worst feeling ever. Thanks to my parents and Now I'm back to normal after surgeries.
Discover : Parents said they won't give me any bike now, I have only 2 option : Discover or No Bike.
Fz : We planned to sell fazer & get this Fz. But we have both. On Fz I got 9k Discount actualy
Pulsar 220F : Back to the Beast. Same color, same everything. Many people thought its the same bike
I love 220.
I think, no other brand can provide such a Throttle Hunger Machine at this price.
The build is so damn robust.
After a direct hit to WagonR's side Gate @ 110+.
There was cracked Fairing but still at its place. Not thrashed.
I'm just 22. (Gonna complete 23 in August)
But believe me I've seen hell of Life.
From Money full of Bag > Hospital for months > Caught by Nepali's in Nepal for fighting in their "casino" > Caught by Police @ Taj Mahal Hotel, Mumbai in 2011 for talking rumours among us like "Bomb fodna hai na bhai?"
(and he made our 3 hours miserable) > lol, I can make hell long post
And I wish none of you see the bad days I'd faced (most bcoz of my foolishness).
Enjoy Life Till You Can.
And here's what I say to myself now :

Well, I think, you can always keep your existing bike in new condition instead of buying a completely new bike & I guess this defines the bond between the Man & his Ride but nevertheless, change/upgrade is not bad either
Dude, I can understand the robust feeling in 220f, but please avoid accident prone riding. I know that you too understand all this blabbering but still.... today morning, on my way to office, I saw a bike flipping, throwing the rider to a distant. And, in fact, these days I see a lot of accident on my way & back from office
You must've seen helluva things till now but trust me, there's hell lot of more things to see & enjoy - Like you meant, "Live life to the fullest"
Ride safe & take care.
A well-wisher
PS - OT but could not help post because of witnessing the accident. SORRY!!BENEATH THE REMAINS.........

Re: Purchasing Power of Indian Bikers
My first bike was a used one and that was all I could afford, and it equivalent to my monthly salary.
The second bike was well above 5 times my monthly salary and it was on a loan. Paid 2 month's salary as DP :PBiking is not about how many Km/h you put on your Speedo. It's about how many miles you put on your Odo. Ride Safe, Ride Long!

Re: Purchasing Power of Indian Bikers
Damn! you guys are rich. I make like 3000 rupees a month and that depends on the price of fodder. As dairy business is a business of uncertainty, I don't like to invest too much on a bike. I used to ride a RX that I bought for 12k to get out of inferiority complex, but after an incident, it led to even higher inferiority complex. I have been saving up money for some time and hoping to buy a second hand Pulsar 150cc and convert it to 200cc, this would give me the ultimate satisfaction smoking other 150cc bikes, especially other 150cc Pulsars. I had 2 accidents in my life but none happened while on my bike, I had to jump from the highway to the rice fields about 10 feet below because a 407 bus lost control and hit a mango tree nearby, I would have been hit if I didn't jump from my bicycle to the deep rice fields near the highway. The bicycle was totaled but I come out without major injury. The second time, I was coming home after delivering milk and a Bolero hit me intentionally around 6 AM in the morning, I fell to the side of the highway and fell on my knees. As the adrenaline was kicking I got back on my feet and came home riding the bicycle and then the pain started. Both of my knees have Osgood–Schlatter disease now, and will be needing surgery one day.
My personal experience shows that the purchase power of average Joe haven't increased greatly. Most people still look for a reliable, comfortable bike with good mileage. The "[s]feel[/s] fill it, shut it, forget it" attitude hasn't completely vanished yet. But for biking enthusiasts, the market is different, since the Pulsar Classic which started the performance biking trend in India, we see a lot of bikes in performance segment now-a-days. Most are just a cosmetic change running the same motor inside, though we see some new innovations every now and then, like the R15, KTM 200 Duke etc. but I'm ashamed that even after production of RD350 ceased in 1989, it's still the fastest Indian production bike, maybe the KTM 390 Duke will change it. If RD350 makes a comeback to the market in the form of Yamaha RD350B, not the detuned Indian version, it'd be a hit in the performance biking in India as purchase power of Indian middle class people have increased.
EDIT: The above post has a lot of grammatical errors and spelling mistakes in it, I was up late night and was somewhat depressed and distressed. Hope you won't judge me by this post.Last edited by Cleaner; 06-13-2013, 08:22 AM.I am back!

w.r.t. the purchasing power; well, I believe the number of people with 'this' has considerably increased, especially in cities. I wish to bring home a 'liter class bike' someday but I guess it's gonna take quite sometime to reach that level of 'Purchasing Power' - no savings, thanks to my bad habits
, not even started saving,,, what savings??, never had it in me! LOL
PS - your post is perfect and I seriously do not think anyone can justify oneself to judge it.BENEATH THE REMAINS.........
