Re: Purchasing Power of Indian Bikers

you have a pure heart bro, coz very few ppl, actually nobody discloses there income on xbhp or for that matter on any social networking sites, and yes many of the ppl who own costly bikes belong to upper middle class and above.

don't worry, one day you will have your own bike. although you are smart enough, just one word, biking is after all your hobby/passion and there are more important things in life than hobby/passion, so spend smartly.

Re: Purchasing Power of Indian Bikers

@Cleaner, I salute you and you have earned everyone's respect here. . . Secondly, not everyone is born rich, ok this you need to keep that in mind, and thirdly, come on bro, you have a neat and good heart, you will succeed one way or the other. . . One thing keep in mind, "never make yourself feel inferior, you are insulting yourself" always be cheerful, you are working and that's a good thing, you are not inferior, you are a worker, there are lots many who don't work, just spend their parents money without knowing it's value or some others who loaf around without working and just wasting their life and time, not everyone who wishes to lead a luxurious life can lead it, neither can someone just dream and wait for things to happen, it's you who should make it come true. . . You are a great person, you are a hard worker, you are not inferior, you are a great person and I admire you and respect you. . . Cheer up bro, you have a biker in you and a good heart, you can do anything, . . All these days you were another Xbhpian bro for me, but now you are more, you have earned more respect. . . Be happy and live a happy life. . .

      Cheers!!!

Re: Purchasing Power of Indian Bikers

An interesting poll and thread. Here's my story.

I had been promised a bike by my father. It was to be gifted to me as a commissioning reward in the similar way as his bike had been a gift for him on HIS commissioning. The toss-up was between an RX-100 and the KB-100RTZ. I chose the KB as it was a superior design overall. I remember it was priced at Rs 23, 737/=. A bit more than the RX.

I got my first pay 6 months after I was commissioned as one bunch of arrears, most of which went off in paying various debts accumulated over the past months. In the end, I was left with just enough money to get small presents for my grand p's, parents and sis during my first leave.

I got my bike in 1993, two years after I became an officer. Till then, I used to cycle about on my duties. People were more humble in those days and believed in living well within their means. Taking loans (if indeed they were granted by the @#$%& PSU banks) was considered insulting, dangerous and an indication of a profligate lifestyle.

My pay at that time was Rs 2200/- p.m and the bike had costed approx 25K. So, it was more than 12 times my pay. I had such little money that I could not have bought it from my own means. Also, the concept of bike loans was missing in the country in those days. The cost of living, even in field areas, precluded saving much towards a bike. I had to depend on my father's generosity for my first ride for which I am eternally grateful to him.

I read some arbitrary remarks about balancing family and bike expenses. Substance comes before style, always and every time. Whether in clothes, shoes, anything. Even bikes. The pyramid has "Needs" at the bottom, then "Wants" and then "Desires". It will be unfortunate for a person to reverse the pyramid and obtain a "Desire" before a 'Need".

I see that most contributors to this thread are, just like me, members of the middle class. We have many, many more onerous responsibilities on our shoulders and our choice of bikes should reflect that status. Yes, a rich businessman member would be correct in getting a R1200GS Adventure for Rs 22 lacs but ONLY after his needs and wants and those of his family have been satisfied in the fullest. Till then, he loses neither fortune nor face by going about on a pre-owned Splendour if need be. Humility=Dignity.

Sorry to pontificate. Ignore the pedantic tone and grasp the meat.

        ----consecutive posts auto-merged-----

Your humble attitude and honest words speak volumes about strong character and integrity, traits more missing than present nowadays. As you grow in Life, these strengths will tide you over the worst crises that the world can throw at you.

Nothing and nobody can give you an inferiority complex but your own self. If you look up, you will feel low, if you look straight and level, comfortable. But if you look down, you will feel blessed to have whatever you have - the Rs 3k p.m, the RX , your business, your good health despite accidents. Strive for wealth, success, fame and fortune - that is your duty to yourself. At the same time, cherish what you have at present. I counsel my fellow young officers and my kids in a similar manner.

And, my young and impressionable friend, never, ever, write online when you are in any mood other than stable and balanced. That way, you will be judged for what you actually are and not what you feel at the moment, right?

Go for a long run, feel the wind and rain on your face, spend time with SENSIBLE friends and you will be lifted out of your depression and distress. And never stop writing here.

If you feel low, PM me anytime and we can help you together. Fine? So smile, show two fingers to the world, grab it by its b***s and bash on.

Cleaner, I so damn agree with icemang. Cleaner buddy you absolutely have nothing to feel inferior about, be proud of yourself . You bought your bike with your hard earned money, you run your business however small or big. You have RX, think about people who cannot afford a chappal let alone bike or cycle and you my friend is blessed with some courage, attitude and direction already. icemang is so true here, the Gandhi's talisman, look up and you would belittle yourself, look down you will feel blessed and keep it in level you feel the push to go ahead, having said that be ambitious, be ambitious always, move mountains to get their, leave no stone unturned but love what you have now. And isn't that one of the greatest rule of life to be happy. I know it's always easier said than done and one has to walk into the other person's shoes to experience and understand it but then that should not stop us from being in continuous strive. Cheers to you buddy to speak your heart out and cheers to you for being the hero you are. Keep smiling , keep loving
