prateek2210: the one i was talking about is this -->

Helmet Bluetooth Kit Headset

our xbhpian parimal maheshwari is using it, and found good enough all round performance.

the brand name is vega, but its not that vega, its basically of chinese origin type, but ok quality.

one more thing, all these low cost units may not be water proof, so you may not use it in rains, rest is ok.

It is LS2 FF310, I bought it for 9k from Adeshwar's Auto Zone, Bangalore.

I'm only talking about Bluetooth here, detailed review will be posted in some day.

Pros:
1. Can operate the Bluetooth with gloves.
2. Tested it in heavy rain for 10-15 mins, so hoping it to be rain resistant also.
3. For Xperia SL it supports MP3, calls and Sygic maps. have to test with google maps.

Cons:
1. Wind noise is quite high, at the speed of 40-50 kmph noise is noticeable. But, if songs are being played it suppress wind noise.

Re: Helmet Communication

My experience with comm. kits for helmets in a nutshell. Ultimately you get what you pay for.

I have been using comms for about four years, and have used many, many types in the line of my work and research. While the cheap units will perform the basic functions - what you need to ask are the following;

1. How well do they perform the function?

Most cheap units have very poor audio quality. If your attitude is "something is better than nothing", then you can get units priced at Rs.1500/- onwards. Heck, you could even do some jugaad with a corded headset unit from your phone. If however, you expect decent communication on the highway, with good quality audio, you need a unit which has advanced noise cancellation, syncing features and range. None of the low end units have these, and you could end up wasting your money buying a cheap unit and being dis-satisfied. I have actually attended con-calls while riding, without the other callers being aware that I am on a motorcycle - the technology on the higher end units are that good today.

Range is something you definitely want, and only the branded units offer this. Even 500M range between bikers headsets is inadequate for touring in my opinion. My wife used to ask me to stop the bike and talk to her while using some units and on others, she actually asks me whether I am riding - thanks to advanced noise cancellation tech. Many fellow XBhpians have spoken to me while I'm riding and been equally surprised - they think I'm in office when actually I'm on the highway doing 120 kmph.

2. What warranty/backup can you get?

Only authorised distribution will enable this. That means buying a standard product, not a bazaar alternative.

3. What exactly do you want the product to do?

This is a tricky question as we generally tend to underestimate our requirements in order to meet a specific price target. However, more often than not, you feel short changed after buying the low end product as you actually wanted more features. Since this is a tech product, my advice is to buy as high as your pocket will allow to avoid quick obsolescence.

Although I haven't road tested it yet but here are my initial impressions:

Easy to install.
Pairing works flawlessly.
Does not pair with more than one device. So if you want to pair with two cellphones at same time, not possible.
I was hoping to pair with my Nexus tab and my cellphone at the same time, but Alas!
Sound quality is decent, not too bad not too good, while on the move, this could change.

Faced a problem with music playback with Galaxy S4, call works fine.
While playing music from S4, its stutters like hell and almost unusable. Did some searching on it and seems to be an infamous flaw in Android 4.2.X devices.
But surprisingly, music playback is working absolutely fine with my Google Nexus 7 Tab on 4.4.2 and my HTC One X+ on 4.2.2

So the problem right now is isolated with S4 only which is also running on 4.4.2

I will be trying to playback music now from other cellphones in the family, namely Galaxy S3 and S2
Lets see if these phones playback music over bluetooth correctly or not.

Another good things about this is the jog dial and its button.
It will be very easy to use while riding, as I have installed on left side of helmet (you can install on either side, no particular L/R marking given on speaker or atleast I couldnt find any)
Can control volume/music playback from the dial itself.
Simple and self explanatory manual tells you how to do it.

Cant wait to road test during tomorrow's ride.

Please do shoot any particular questions if anyone have. I will try and answer them after this weekend's ride.
Cheers

Re: Helmet Communication

Road tested thoroughly at weekend.
Went to narkanda / hatu peak during Saturday Sunday.
Music played back from my HTC one x plus.. Music is audible enough.. Cant expect crystal clear sound. Battery life around 7-8 hours with around 4 hrs of music playback and remaining time music paused..

Kept at such volume so that I can hear other things on road as well and bit of music as well.

Problem: speakers did fit inside helmet but made things little tight near the ears. After a little while it starts hurting, Its probably to do with helmet size and my head circumference. Not enough room left. I am trying to do some jugaad about it.
I took off the speaker unit from helmet on day 2 when it ran out of battery and I forgot to carry it's charger. Helmet got much comfortable after that.

Pros : bluetooth unit was relatively water resistant during moderate rain I faced near panipat on way back. No problems whatsoever.
