Basically, you've got to stabilize temps outside and inside the helmet.

Open all air circulation inlets and outlets... or keep the visor open by a cm like suggested.
Rubbing tobacco is a good option to aid rolling of water droplets as Divya_sharan suggested.
Problem is the fact that exhaling causes fogging - My helmet has a breath deflector (a rubber piece that directs exhaled air away from the visor) - Its a SOL - No fogging here .

Re: Helmet Fogs up - How to avoid

aargee saar, even I have noticed balaclava increases the fog, but it again depends on its construction as well as the helmet.

In Blore, if I close the visor and speeds are less than 10kmph (the usual speed in city ) the visor quickly gets fogged when I wear a balaclava.
I used to have cramster earlier which focused my breath directly onto visor thus increasing fogging.

Now I am using Spartan balaclava and it distributes my breath better resulting in lesser fogging.

If I dont use balaclava then the fogging problem is a lot less in daytime, but I feel extremely uncomfortable without the balaclava.

My helmet is LS2 btw, which has very poor vents near the mouth. SOL should have better vents which can let out the breath faster thus reducing fogging.

Anyway, let me try in cooler weather & post it here; for now, when I'd used Balaclava in Chennai Evening weather & at Kodi last month (in the early morning) I didn't witness any fog or bog.
Balaclava didnt work. New one from spartan and it still fogged in today's rain. Btw am using ls2

don't breathe heavily, open all air vents, and open visor by one notch. it should help.

other than this...try to purchase anti-fog solutions from online shops.

rubbing tobacco...never tried..lets try...

Re: Helmet Fogs up - How to avoid

I have been touring since a long time, I had purchased an LS2 graffiti three years back, that time LS2 had real good standards, all the vents are effective and u can actually feel the air gushing inside wn u keep it close for some time and then open them up, regarding fog, I havent faced any problems so far, yes during rains I just use a micro fibre cloth to clean the glass, I used 10 ml diesel in 50 ml water and mixed it, cleaned the visor as it rrmoved the grim wch is not removable bt water or glass cleaning solutions. I know it sounds wierd but it worked for me. Else u can use a car shampoo ( good company car shampoo)
as it removes grime and dirt completly. I do was my bike with diesel and water every 3 weeks, she shines like brand new.
Microfiber cloths are very very useful for bikes and accessories as they pick uo dirt completely and soaks water better than cotton or any other cloth.
Sparx and KBC have vents on top of the visor to avoid mist formation but still my Sparx helmet faces mist when riding in the city traffic, the moment I cross 10 kmp/h it goes off.
IMPORTANT : When the mist goes off the visor it leaves some residue wch in return gathers more mist than before, so always use Microfiber cloth to clean the visor as it doesn't scratch the visor and cleans really well.
Hope my Loooooonnnnggggggg Bhashan ( Irritating speech ) help u guys in some way..

Re: Helmet Fogs up - How to avoid

A solution one of the senior riders from HYD chapter same up with. Worked well for me.
1)Remove your visor and thoroughly clean it with mild detergent.
2)Take a cloth[cotton], pour a drop of your dish wash and apply it to the inner side of your visor. Evenly i.e.
3)Take another dry cloth and buff it carefully. The detergent will start disappearing and your visor will be becoming clearer.

Also, I din't find balaclavas helpful in slow traffic. Visor fogs up, no matter what. Experienced this only in rain.

Re: Helmet Fogs up - How to avoid

1. BalaClava's don't work in slow / high speed for fog.
If you're wearing Balaclava uptill nose, then for sure you will breathe Heavily and thus more Fog.

2. Keep the Visor a bit open

3. Wear the helmet a Bit up from chin and let the air enter from the Chin area too. (If you do not get my point then do not practice this)

4. When on empty road or Traffic or Red Signal / Free for 3-4 seconds.
Open your Visor And with 1 finger just clean the fog of Inside of Visor.
(Easy Job and you will get Clean view)

5. Try to breathe from mouth sometimes when you feel suffocation and want to breathe heavily.
But while breathing from Mouth try to release the Air towards Chin area and not normally like we do.
(Upper Lip over Lower Lip and release Air)

All these things are Tried personally by and me and worked for me from Years While riding in Heavy Rains of Mumbai, Pune, Nasik. Freezing Winters of Delhi, Dehradun and Weird hot + cold weather of Rajasthan.

TS - Which helmet do you use?? For most basic/starter ones, I believe, lifting the visor just a click is the only effective & quick solution amongst the suggested solutions - the fog disappears almost instantly, 'been doing it for a long time now.

I remember Aryan approving a similar thread here. There was one solution which involved tooth paste, if I am not wrong. Balacalava helps to an extent, I repeat to an extent only.

I guess the LS2s with breath deflectors give the same result - I have experienced noticeably less fogging in my LS2 compared to my Steelbird which I use for office commuting. That tobacco bit is new - gotta try it!

i agree to your points.... i also use SOL - Metal Man series.
but i've tried the following too but still face some probe with it.
1. opened the helmet visor to minimum notch.
---helps the fog situation but the water from top of helmet pours through the gap in inner walls of visor and also sometimes to my power glasses. i cant drive without my power glasses.
2. used balaclava but situation become more worse.
---my breath out sir is now fogging my sunglasses too and more heavily blinding me 100%
3. already am driving with all my vents open all the time.
4. as its rainy season my cold makes me breath little heavier than normal and only through mouth. i cant breath our normally through my nose most times, being serious problem for this fogging situation for my helmet.

Now can you suggest me some other way to avoid getting fogged up inside my helmet?

For the outside, you can use :
1. Paper napkins - requires frequent stopping and cleaning, keeps the visor scratch free.
2. Tobacco/cigarettes - rub the tobacco on the visor and say bye bye to water droplets. Needs to be done once in a day. May cause small scratches over prolonged use and of course if would smell like a ciggy too.
