  • XBHP's Bike of the year 2008

Magazine, newspapers, websites, TV shows - everyone has been or will be presenting their own Bike of the year awards. What about us then?

Here are the shortlisted contenders for the year 2008. Take your pick, and ofcourse support your choice with a line or two!

    1. Bajaj Platina 125
    2. Bajaj Discover 135
    3. Honda CBF Stunner
    4. Honda Aviator
    5. TVS Flame
    6. TVS Apache RTR FI
    7. Royal Enfield Thunderbird TBTS
    8. Yamaha FZ16
    9. Yamaha R15

PS: These above 9 two-wheelers were launched in the year 2008 - the methodology followed by every magazine that has bike of the year awards. We only include those machines that we commercially launched in that specific year, in this case, 2008

    My choice: The r15
Why : it opens a completely new segment in India. India's first real sports bike with modern hi-tech stuff. The R15 is my choice..

    Topic Approved.

Some of the big names are totally missing from this poll of yours. Names like 'Honda Unicorn', Bajaj's Pulsar siblings (200/ 220), or even the all time favourite 'ZMA'!

My vote would have undoubtedly gone to the Karizma, if there would've been such an option, that is! As the poll stands now, I vote for NONE!

Aryan : Bike of the year awards are judged on bikes launched in that year. And hence, these 9 two-wheelers launched in the year 2008. This methodology is followed by each magazine / newspaper / website / TV shows : whosoever conducts their own Bike of the year awards

For once am torn between the R15 and RTR Fi, but I will have to give it to the R15 simply for Yamaha's guts to come out with an out and out sports bike targetted at the racing afficandos (and posers as well) and not try to be a mix and match of everything like the other bikes are.

P.S: Purely my opinion and no flaming invited!

R15 i think is the winner 7 out of 9 votes right now. Weird some publications have given the FZ16 the winners crown!

R15 all the way, Yamaha did open Indian bikers up to New Technology, styling. They have intorduced a new dimension to Biking in India.

                      R15 for sure.....
The RTR Fi was more like an upgrade and not a new bike strictly in xBhp parlance....

                        R15, undoubtedly...

Buddy best bike ought not to be a performance bike.. and you have to look at the cost factor. In that sense FZ16 is the perfect from lot of aspects. Its in reach of most of guys who want to buy a good bike and are not reallly bothered about R15 style cornering abilitities, dynamics, handling, performance...etc...

Publications have gone by considering all sections of people who use bikes.

Lot of people dont ride above 80kmph. So they wont buy R15 just for the sake of boasting about its top end. Also they dont have money to afford it. FZ16 fits there. Great looks & broad rear tyre (Major crowd puller)... Leave aside handling... I have seen most of folks underutilizing the P220,P200, ZMA, R15, RTR & FZ16 handling capabilities.

Alok, yes cost factor matters but the advancements / new tech used on the R15 cannot be ignored either. A completely new engine / new body styling / new goodies etc, and most importantly, India's first sports bike does tilt the favors for the R15. The results speak for themselves
14 out of 23 votes for the r15!

Everyone looks at things with their own perspective. Wether its technology, price, design, engine, practicality and what not.

The R-15 is a great bike and indeed light years ahead of the competition, but the only point where its lacks is the practicality, its a pure track tool and most of us wont even get a chance to be there once and use the bike to its full potential (everyone knows this.....).

I feel that in those terms the FZ is better as the power delivery is in the low and mid range, moreover the bike is more practical in every aspect, does not cost a bomb and looks mind-blowing (everyone knows this too.....)

The FZ for me for sure......
