Yes...the bike's stripped down to the bone. Unfortunately, the chassis is twisted hence unusable. Looking out for a donor with papers..

What do I intend to do? Stuff ZMR drivetrain into an Ambition chassis and watch others run scared!

Re: A Tribute-- Resoration of a Junked CBZ

try and get a new chassis if possible or get one in good condition from the junk , grind off the old number and then get your chasis number punched, depending on the amount of twist you may even get the old one repaired too

I will be taking delivery of a junked motorbike which belonged to my cousin. Tragically, he was killed in an accident a couple of years ago and the motorcycle was seized and kept at the police station as evidence. After all the court hearing and the insurance payout, the motorcycle was released to his younger brother who decided to do up the motorcycle as a gift to my deceased cousin's son(who will turn 18 next year).

After all the conversations via phone, email and whatsapp, I have deduced that the bike's chassis is OK however all the plastics are either broken or stolen. The carb is missing and the engine does not turn over. The motorcycle was retrieved from the police station(in Cuddalore) and it is on the way to Delhi.

I have decided to get the bike mechanically and electrically restored(with some upgrades) and then ship it off(or ride it ) to Chennai where the painting and the plastics bit will be taken care of. As we both have a limited budget, we have decided to use the Hero honda parts bin only and also the OEM manufacturers (minda, Imperial auto fittings, Unitech, sunbeam, usha etc). In case, some parts are not available, we will be using compatible parts from Karizma, and all the other Hero honda bikes.
@psr, ashwin, acs, Divya, rreneav and all the karizma/CBZ owners: your help will be required to isolate all the compatible parts and the part numbers for this restoration.

we have given ourselves one year for this resto..

        lets see

pics will be uploaded when I get the bike(within a week or so)

        thanks...

my first steps for this kind of revival will have the following..

        find a good mechanic..
        get a new battery.
        change spark plug.
        pour new engine oil.
get a new/used carb and try to start the engien first....

once it breathes life after few years... give a smile and then the major work starts..

        1. completely dismantle the bike.
        2. frame wont be rusted this soon. will need a good cleanup..
        3. unmount the engine and ask mech to completely dismantle it and clean every part and put it back.
        4. get rims checked.. bend/broken.. change spokes for proper balancing
        5. tyre change.
        6. complete wiring checkup..
        7. tank to be cleaned and rust removed.
        8. new tyres if budget permits else atleast rear tyre change (dunlop geo cruiser) 100/80/18
        9. new disk pads ( 170-200 bucks) , change to dot4 fluid, new master cylinder kit ( piston and rings- 200-300)
        10. new drum pads..
        11. headlight bulb change ( 35 w )
        12. handle bar ( check if bent/rusted/broken)
        13. one more guy did restoration and he ordered parts through website. ( follow same route).
        14. chain condition .. throughly cleaned and lubed ( check for uneven wear and tear)
        15. swing arm bushes if needed.
        16. tappet cover gasket
        17. valve clearance.
        18. air filter change else through cleanup.
        19. rubber flange between carb and engine.
        20. few fuses.
        21 lockset condition.
        22. timing chain condition..
        24. exhaust/silencer ( weld if any small rust) replace with used one if needed.
        25.. clutch plates..
        26. clutch cable..
        27. coneset ( must change)
        28. fork oil topup, oil seal change..

        edit :

i now read that frame is bent.. how bad is it...

Bent frame can be straightened, obviously it should not be twisted, there are some frame straighteners who take this kind of job.
